The bit where you put the CD player next to the Sega mega Drive made me laugh, that's funny. I really don't mean to be ride or insulting, but the music you're playing isn't the kind of music I like that much, but that's my opinion. I personally would play something from the time period of the CD player, like Roxette, The Stone Roses, The Proclaimers or Ian Moss or Susane Vega, but that's simply my opinion.
@Lachlant1984 I chose the Norwegian CD because the songs on it do not cause any copyright problems, and for modern pop music I think it's pretty good.
Hey, I had two of those that I used in my home studio in the early 90's. They were simple, cheap and reliable. Mine lasted for a long, long time even though I beat the hell out of them. The door is supposed to spring up. Nice to see these again. :) JC
@bakonfreek All music CDs, regardless of date, contain uncompressed digital audio. MP3 has nothing to do with it, unless you specifically burn an MP3 CD-R on your computer, which can then only be played on a CD or DVD player which supports MP3 playback. (There are no commercially pre-recorded MP3 CDs. It is strictly a format you create yourself on your computer.)
@vwestlife Believe it or not there actually are commercially available MP3 CD's, I have some, I have a talking book my mother bought me that's in MP3 CD fprmat, years ago I was given a very early portable MP3 CD player, it came with a pack in MP3 CD that I still have today. I believe BBC Audio have published books on MP3 CD in the past, they may still do now.
Pretty modern looking CD player for 1989. Nice rounded corners etc. I believe some of the first CD players introduce in 1983 or so were top loading too, right?
These days you won't find a cd player made only for Audio CDs. Now the audio CDs are played in computers, xboxes, dvd players... I wish they were still making these CD Players.
@Radu287 if you wanna buy them there's still loads second hand... so why would anyone made new ones? or you could spend several thousand on a brand new "top of the range" separate cd player that probably doesn't sound any better than a cheapo one.
@Radu287 I know! I was looking around in the electronic section in a department store, and all they had absolutely no real stereo equipment, except for some iPod docks. The rest of it is all computer crap.
That thing is really really basic! There is not a whole lot of anything to offer...but it does look cool!
A volume control and headphone jack would be a huge plus for this machine, and it seems logical to have those, even if they didn't include a power button!
I still have an RCA discman from about 1998, which came with the car kit and some cool features, like back-lit display and a remote control, but the thing that always annoyed me is that it doesn't have a time display as well... But it does have fast forward and reverse... XD
The first 3 digits of the Sears part number indicate who really built the product. 934 is Hitachi.

@vwestlife OK, that's a fair point, I didn't even think of that, it makes sense. The copyright thing has gone a bit too far in my opinion.

@vwestlife That's OK, I understand.

You faked me out with the Genesis controllers, lol. Isn't that a power switch right next to the play/pause button?

@vintagevideogamegeek No, it's just an LED that glows whenever it's plugged in.

I wonder if you hit pause then try to fast forward and reverse in the track if that will work then hit play again?

@Comptekhs I tried all possible combinations of buttons, but it simply will not seek within a track.

I have a Panasonic discman that is pretty high-tech compared to this! It uses AAA batteries, but has an adapter for AA batteries, also with a remote.

The amazing thing is that it still works.
Most of the cheap-o CD players I back in the eighties (Symphonic) died after a few years.. probably the lazer died.

Interesting CD player! I once found something like this at the dump, but I didn't take it with me because it looked so cheap...
