I think the 1999 mode is great idea, I do find it funny that Bill Gardner from Irrational said it will need to be accessed via entering some type of code or button combo (apparently they're considering the Konami code) because it's so unforgiving that they don't even want to chance their casual player base turning it on by accident. That sounds a bit like hyperbole to me but it piqued my interest in the mode.
