oh i got to sya you can tell you and the person laughing loves that bird so much! and its so funny when you tell him stand up and he keeps going on his back! I just got myself a Green Cheek Yellow Sided Conure! called 'Tuppence'
This is the greatest video in the history of captive bred birds. Lol! It's nice to see a Sun Conure in a good home instead being dumped off at the pet store i work at.
I can't get my sun conure to lay on his back. Is this something you have to train them to do before they get too old? My sun is almost 11 years and is set in his ways.
omg! lol! i work at a pet store and we used to have this sun conure that would play dead ALL THE TIME! it was difficult to explain to customers that he was just playing and wasn't having seizures or actually dying.. lol

My God, Leo's just the most cutest, intelligent bird ever. He's adorable! Heh, all these videos make me want to get a sun conure myself...when I get older.
Did he learn this trick by himself? Like, did you just "shoot" him and he just rolled over just like that? Or did you have to push him over or something? I'm really curious, 'cause my neighbour has a chihuahua that pretty much does the same thing (rolling over if you "shoot" it).
Hi, I have a green cheeked conure that i purchased from my pet store. the lady who runs the pet store was able to bring him out of the cage and everything, and i held him also without any problems. I now have him home, but when i go to gently get him to step out of the cage, he bites. For anyone who has been bitten by a parrot, they can rip skin pretty easily lol. He is 6 1/2 months old, how do i train him to not tear my skin off? BTW, I love the look of your bird his training, awesome job!
@MrJmo1991 This is a really tough situation. I'd spend a lot of time with a bird at a store before buying it, because it's a very long-lasting decision.
If you really want him to step up, you'll just have to distract him - push on his chest with your finger until he has to focus on his balance more than biting, forcing him to step up.
If you think he'll do some real damage - just sell him back!
@KippTheKidd okay, so i was able to get him to come out of the cage today and he was playing with things like my belt loop and stuff, still a bit nippy. I have already grown too attached to him, and since is is only 6 1/2 months old, im going to hope he calms a bit with more handling.
just out of curiosity how did you teach him this trick? thinking about trying to teach my white eyed conure swifty some more tricks and this is one i really want to teach him, thanks :)
I love watching this video......how do you do this, you should make a video, of how to get the bird to do that, and also, how can I train my cockatiel not to fly away.... I wish I could go outdoors like you do with Leo.....but I am afraid he would fly away, I also dont want to clip his wings....
@KippTheKidd Hi, I'm thinking about getting a Sun Conure, and I have been doing stacks of research that I know is necessary but I'm torn about wing clipping. I'd love to allow it to be free-flighted but I've heard a few horror stories of free flighted conures flying into things like mirrors, windows and even boiling saucepans (although I would not have my conure in the vicinity of a boiling saucepan of water) so I thought I'd ask you.. I was wondering if you found this a problem at all? Cheers.
@dippydaisydog Hah - no, not at all! look at his other videos and you'll see what I mean.
We made sure to introduce Leo to windows, mirrors and hot saucepans when he was very young. We *never* had a problem.
Yes, hot saucepans. I would cup him in my hand, and bring him closer until he decides it's unpleasantly hot - teaches him to avoid it. Mind you - my hand was experiencing the heat too, so I know it wasn't too hot. I let him go as soon as he decided to move away.

Awww! He's so cute! Your bird is very tame. I've had my budgie for around 6 months but he isn't tame at all. I've tried putting one finger in his cage to get him used to me but he just always bites (really hard). How did you get your parrot to be so tame?
My bird is so boring and mean, hes a sun conure too... but hes 4-5 years old (lost count) and he only likes me xD too late to teach anything now. He gets really fluffy and defensive when someone else comes in the room and if hes out, he'll fly to them and go into attack-birdy mode. *sigh*
Aww, that's great. He's such a happy bird and obviously you guys love him. I like seeing happy birdie families, since so many people don't train their bird correctly and don't love them enough. I have a conure (GCC), but she doesn't like laying on her back. :( It's so cute when they do.
This Sun Conure loves everything he is doing. I have a Sun Conure and he is always happy to learn and do tricks. This is also a sign of complete trust. Leo is an amazing parrot.
@miwmiwbiw That was a silly comment! To anyone that knows parrots it is obvious the bird enjoys doing this trick! If you knew the least bit about these birds you wouldn't make such a stupid remark - a parrot will NOT do anything it isn't comfortable with or enjoys!
Thanks KippTheKidd for sharing with us - I enjoy seeing birds being so well taken care of, it is obvious you love your bird! Welcome to se my crazy african grey playing./Veronica

Haha :D I love this video! Cute bird. You can see how much it loves you, and you love it. And i love that you dont cut it wings :) I hate ppl who do that...
cutest thing in the world!! i used to have a cockatiel but my parents were planning to paint my room and rather than have her die from the fumes or possibly die from being out in the living room with my dogs, we had to give her back to the aviary where we got her :( is it really difficult raising that type of parrot?

Leo bites, yes. He loves family, but if I do something he doesn't like, he bites. Oddly enough, I can pick him up by his wings or tail and he doesn't mind -- but if I take away his food, WOW he gets mad.
Although, he is very nice to family... He absolutely can not be out when strangers are in the house though, he HATES intruders and will draw blood!
Wow! That's way too cute!

How did you train him not to escape (since he can fly)? I'm afraid that if I won't cut my sun conure's wings he will fly away...

He's been shot so many times he's immune to imaginary bullets.
