@GrappleMania01 Bll Watts ex-wife owns the library and their son Micah runs the company that sells these videos. Their site offers all kinds of videos, including house shows.
Jim Ross i admit was a great announcer back then in the UWF,as he was Bill Watt's right hand man for years. You can thank Vince for taking him and turning him into a goofball cowboy hat wearing good ole JR in the wwf.
It was exciting to watch at the time. It's a shame it didn't go on forever. Another station you left out that also broadcast UWF during 1986 and 1987 was KSTW Washington, Channel 11. I don't know about the viewer numbers but it televised wrestling matches from UWF. Their viewership stretched from Portland, Oregon to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Yes. It was also popular in the Pacific Northwest too.
@swingbass05 Michael P.S. Hayes the leader of the fabulous Freebirds is the announcer with Jim Ross. Dibiase did do commentary but only for a few spots.
In this case, either the jobber had too much momentum when he ran into Gilbert or he oversold the move. The general intent of the move was to sort of catch the opponent's throat on the rope and stun him, more like Tully Blanchard's old slingshot suplex. They usually didn't go over the rope like that.
Whoever owns the UWF archives (the ex Mrs. Bill Watts) should just sell the archives to WWE... Do they honestly think anyone else is going to make them a better offer? Absolutely not. Time to stop being childish - these archives are going to continue to collect dust
Salvador Guerrero III[1] (born on January 7 1949)[1], better known as Chavo Guerrero or Chavo Guerrero, Sr., is a former professional wrestler. He is known for his work in Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF), American Wrestling Association (AWA) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and for being the father of current superstar Chavo Guerrero, Jr. He is the oldest son of Salvador "Gory" Guerrero, and part of the Guerrero wrestling
If you didn't like UWF,you're an idiot. There, I said it. Seriously though, the combination of Watts, Taylor, and Ken Mantell were red hot when it came to booking episodic television. Everyone worked harder for Watts. The Freebirds -- THE FREAKIN' FREEBIRDS! -- were putting on great matches. Missy Hyatt was actually hot! Eddie Gilbert couldn't not entertainment me if he tried.
Also , from a creative standpoint, this may be the best that professional wrestling has ever produced. It's on par with the peak of the NWO and Austin vs. McMahon.
Great memories ! Its great to see a match that doesnt include : ladders, flaming tables, barbed wire bats, or even a leprechaun under the ring ! Back in the day ... when the wrestler SOLD the match.. not the GIMMICK selling the match.. like now a days. Thanx and keep up the good work.
this is classic stuff i was a bigger fan of the uwf than nwa or wwf at the time! this was what wrestling was all about: violent, athletic, entertaining w/o being too gimmicky! Also i almost forgot about Jack Tatum one of the most underrated heels in the sport ! he could sell like nobody's business (his pouts and faces he used to make were funny as hell!)
You are right about Tatum being underrated. He really did a good job selling and taking bumps. I always considered Tully Blanchard one of the best in that sense.
UWF booked diferently than other wrestling at that time. No "squash" matches that were dominate on all the other channels. So, even the mid card part of the show was interesting.
and how can you leave out the classic "HE WAS LACERATED!" call by jr damn near every week,i use to anticipate him saying that, the uwf (watts) was the shit yell
I remembered seeing the UWF on TV on Saturday Mornings back in 1987. Besides watching Ted DiBiase, Dr. Death(Steve Williams), or Jake(The Snake) Roberts, it was really the Announcing of Jim Ross that really turned me on to the UWF. Every chance I would get, I would watch UWF Wrestling.
The way Jim Ross would announce a Match would have you hangin on the edge of your seat.
That's a different UWF. It's not anywhere in the same league as this one. I wish it had a different name so people wouldn't get them confused. That Herb Abrams UWF is crap. The Bill Watts UWF is da bomb.
Bill doesn't own it. His ex-wife does. She and their son Micah Watts sell tapes and DVD's from their library on their website. In fact, this is their Youtube channel. There is info for their website in the info pannel and on their page.
Vince McMahon does not own the rights to Mid South Wrestling and Universal Wrestling Federation Footage. If he did, then WWE could really put together DVD Sets of Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Ted Dibiase, Junkyard Dog and a number of other wrestlers.

You know how to become a millionaire? Put on FAKE TRASH like this, call it "wrestling" and then wait for the trailer park trash to fill the arena! You can always make lots of money on the poor, uneducated trash (because they are too stupid NOT to pay money to see this).
oh good god do you know how much the wrestlers do take about 8 flights a week wrestling might be scripted but it's not fake they wrestle every day and when they have there days off (2 days) they train....and pro wrestling is not a rich thing to do some peapole don't even get payed and when they do they maby get like 10 or 20 dollars so don't say that pro wrestling is trash it's really hard work!

If I'm not mistaken, New York came in early 87. This may be a presentation that helped bring UWF there. The ratings they cite are from Nov 86. I think that was a few months before ole JR announced that a New York station had picked up the show. Did they have something before that?
