  • Your playing is amazingly clean! Whenever I try simple sweeps I have a lot of noise because strings ring after I put my fingers off of them or i accidently touch them. Any advice would by much appreciated.

  • @mgrein93 Hey dude, thanks very much! I think you could try focusing on using the right (picking) hand, to mute the strings as you play through them, when sweeping. So you're kind of rolling your palm across the strings just after you pick each note, keeping everything nice and clean as you go! A big part of the trick to sweeping (aside from the left/right hand syncronisation) is muting with your picking hand as you go.

  • 2:14 "easy to sweep" hahahah never heard anyone say those two words together

  • @greenbeaner69 If you practice sweeping a lot, and get good at it like anything else, it'll seem so easy, haha.

  • thats gotta be the simplest advanced lesson i've ever embarked upon, if there were more this comprehensibly friendly (takes a good instructor) we'll all be giving Michael Romeo a run for his money. Why haven't i heard of Eternal Decent before?! i love typical neo-classical shred stuff, but its certainly refreshing to find some less conventional forms for adding new color & spice. Much Thanks. PS by "reinforced" you don't mean coated strings do you? or perhaps titanium maybe?

  • @Voitcu Thanks very much for the kind words dude, I'll work on doing some similar lessons in the neart future! The reinforced strings are all wound at the base, so even the 'unwound' strings (GBE) are wound for an inch or so at the base of the string by the ball end. These strings work particularly well for Kahler tremolos and classic syncronized tremolos.

  • you look like leon kennedy from resident evil lol.awesome playing btw

  • Very helpful. Thanks!

  • Tele' style...

  • Paul Gilbert stuff...Also Bach!Try playing Bardinerie-it`s in Bminor!

  • do you know what mods i would have to do to put a kahler on a stranded tele??

  • I don't like your camera man.. I wanted to see that guitar playing, no your hair.

  • he came @0:17

  • Do you have any tips for making sweep picking come out cleaner sounding?

  • @Ashe1031 Well, I might not be a pro, since I havent played guitar for years now, but the scret you are looking for is pretty easy. Play everything incredibly, ridiculously ssslooowww. For a while. For a long while. And only when it sounds perfect, you might turn the metronome's speed up by 1-2 bpm's. Back then I was amazed how quickly I was able to develop like this. I hope it was at least of some help :)

  • This has been bugging me for a while. I was wondering what kind of strings do you use?

  • @Crazymofoinamajikbox I used reinforced strings - so even the strings are 'wound' for an inch or so at the ball joint. This works out really well for the kahler trem systems, giving a smooth action over the rollers - they also last for ages! A few companies make reinforced strings, I mostly use Ernie Ball or Dunlop.

  • @EternalDescent What gauge?

  • @Crazymofoinamajikbox Usually 10-48. Pretty much like 10s on the top and 11s on the bottom. On the Baritone (long scale) i use 12-56.

  • @EternalDescent That's coo bro! I like using 12's on the bottom 3 strings, and 10's on the G, and B strings, and last but not least 9's on the high E string. That's just something that I like to you use....I find mixing up the different gauges, really gives a pretty good tone, and of course feel. This is the first video I have stumbled on from you, and I have to say that I am impressed.

  • Is that a custom ordered tele man? shits so cash :p

  • @joniiboy Hah yeah - Its actually based on the 'Ron Wood' signature model Tele. I ordered that custom with a Kahler Tremolo, reprofiled neck, 6105 frets, black pick guard / hardware and the DiMarzio pickups :D

  • I love that guitar. I'm leaving superstrats and engage Telecaster with humbuckers.

  • Love your tone. You're a great teacher. You should smile more though. :)

  • i wish esp did some more guitars like a tele, and an ltd model for us with out a lot of cash :P great vid dude!

  • i dunno if it's my computer but that tone is incredibly trebly, and annoying. Otherwise nice lesson

  • @P3313 It's a tele, they are very bright. Not meant for metal.

  • as always Llexi a fantastic video.. I learned alot on this one... ty

  • what scale are you using? (a minor...?)

  • what strings?

  • Awesome lesson!!!

  • this shit is beast, im now attempting to use it as a solo for my band :) is there anything gear wise you would recommend for this sound?

  • @brux559 Hey dude, this tone is a very simple chain. I'm using an ESP Tele with DiMarzio pickups, going into a Digitech RP1000. It's a stock preset, SoloDelay - which is going straight into a clean valve combo with all the knobs on 5. Easy!

  • i really like the sound of your solos very melodic and (weird.. you said melodic at 6:09 when i was typing it lol) anyways im really likin the sound dude

  • You're a great teacher! Horns up.

  • great lesson man, subscribed

  • Hey why doesn't ESP make you a signature model??

    It'll be cool!

  • @DH31701 Hah, it would be cool!! :P Maybe drop ESP an e-mail about that, they might do it one day XD

  • Wow. Really cool info to help me with my playing. I'm just starting to learn some theory (been playing with only the basics for some time now) so this not only helped, but actually made some sense!

I love your playing style and tone, Llexi. Which pickups were used in that tasty custom tele?

Would love to see a full set of reviews on all of your ESP Custom Shop models. They're all so sick!

  • @ToddHakes Hey Todd - Thanks! The pickups are a 'Virtual Hot T' in the bridge, and an 'Air Classic' in the neck. I tried a bunch of things, but this combo can cover a huge range of classic sounds, but really screams if you want it to!!

I don't think i'll be doing too many gear reviews. As cool as the guitars are, it's kinda wasted since the guitars are one of a kind, tough to really compare to whats available in store etc.

Got a bunch of killer videos from the studio coming online soon tho!

  • @EternalDescent Thanks for the info! And I totally understand about the guitars. I guess I'm the odd-man-out when it comes to gear – I look into the custom shop stuff more than the factory stuff so that I can oneday hope to imitate the best qualities in my own designs. Most guys don't have a desire to build guitars though!

I look forward to it! I always enjoy watching your videos; very inspiring to my playing. And maybe I'll someday find a copy of Eternal Descent where I live so I can read it!

  • awesome tone! :)

  • great video, very informative.

  • Are you being endorsed by ESP?

  • Llexi, you seem to be the luckiest guy on earth.

  • great video!

what camcorder did you used? the quality is very nice...

  • @osvtorr Thanks! It's a Canon 5D MkII, with an HV30 for additional angle / backup.

  • Cool jacket!

  • hey Lexi, always good to hear from you and great lesson.I have two questions for you, what is that on your headstock, a damper or string tree, it looks cool as hell? Also wonder if you will be posting a written guide/tab of the string skipped arpeggio you have demonstrated?

  • @recall34 Hey dude - It's a Kahler String Lock. It's clamping down the strings behind the nut. That way i still have a double locking tremolo, but i also get the sweeter tonality of the bone nut. As for TAB - There is no tab for this lesson, the thing here is to use your ears. If i wrote it all down, it would bypass the important bit, which is hearing the 1s, 3s & 5s! :P

  • Awesome ESP tele mate and an excellent lesson as well. I think the stubble thing suits you, you look more simian!!! \m/

  • @RobChappers hey there, what are you doing here!?

    :P

  • @RobChappers Hah cheers dude. The tele is pretty sweet!!

  • ecxelente video lexi, no lo sabia... con chords se pueden hacer solos de sweeping

  • please make more of these that was exactly what I needed to take my playing to the next level!

  • Awesome video! I'll have to watch again when I have my guitar handy, haha. :) You're a great guitarist man, and Eternal Descent is pretty sick, can't wait to hear when you release more stuff!

  • I saw you do a pretty high bend there, what string guage are you using?

  • @RevisedTV I use 10-52. I tune to Eb though, which does help with the bends! :)

  • METAL!!

  • really entertaining lesson, i hope there will be more!

  • An awesome lesson, and I do mean LESSON. It's refreshing to see someone who's rehearsed (or looks rehearsed) to make the vid better. Looking forward to the Eternal Descent album! Keep the lessons comin'!

  • Noice!

  • awesome, but one thing - isn't what you were playing in A (the B note if you were in E standard) actually a major 9 and not a minor 9?

  • @imbaguitar You got it dude. Thats a regular 9, not a b9. I called it the Minor 9 to associate it with the Minor 9 chord, but it's not a b9, as that would be a kinda phrygian sounding thing!

  • what amp are you using here cos you have a great tone and awesome playing i found this video very helpful, when is the eternal decent album out ?

  • @kakashihatake1321 Cheers! The album is still in production, so no release date yet !! As for the Tone, i'm using a Digitech RP1000 for preamp/effects. The Amp is a Marshall 1974x Combo, very simple valve amp, but sounds great!!

  • Nice ESP Custom Shop

  • it's a cool idea. but most don't get that level as you.

I learned that stuff by myself ))

  • first one to watch...sick or what...

  • first - and AWESOME vid dude
