  • or you can use a SATA host-adapter :)

  • i dont have any of them adaptors all i want to do is connect my sata laptop hdd to my desktop and go into it and retrieve some files can i just plug the hd into my mother board with a sata lead and sata power lead? ive tried this but its not showing does anyone know why? plz help

  • @AussiesRus1 If it's not showing in Windows, does it show in the BIOS, or when the machine is booting (you may have to press a key for display of full info, depending on brand).

Look in device manager in Windows, the drive may just not have a drive letter assigned.

  • i have the vantech adapter everything set but it doesnt show up in seagate

  • @180sk8180 Head over to my support forum: FreeComputerConsultant(dot)com/forum

  • @FreeCompConsultant problem solved, I used a great program called recuva

  • 2 laptop drives, 1 SATA and 1 IDE when hooked up with adapter are easily detected on my Win 7 latop as "E" drive...the 2 desktop IDE 3.5" drives, don't show up at all, not detected in either device manager or disk management and I tried set as slave and cable select...defective adapter?

  • @aerotampa did you try as master?

  • your my hero!!! THANK YOU!!!! I BEEN TRYING TO DO FOR FOREVER!!!

  • AWESOME DUDE YOU ROCK. =D

  • Why are you using some USB thing? Wouldn't it be easier to plug it in directly to the SATA port?

  • @Sposchy It's universal and simple. Every PC will have a USB Port, even a laptop or netbook; few will have an external SATA port.

This does not require the cover to come of the PC and it works with IDE, 2.5 or 3.5", and SATA.

This is just too easy this way!

  • @FreeCompConsultant

True, but it's not hard at all to use the internal port, and you don't have to spend money on the card or wait for it to arrive.

  • @Sposchy Not hard for me or you, but for most people, this is the ticket. Again, what are you gonna do if it's a laptop, though?

  • @FreeCompConsultant

I honestly don't think it'd be too hard with a YouTube video walking you through. No harder than removing a HDD from a laptop, anyway.

But if it's another laptop, I suppose you do need the USB SATA port.

  • where can i get one of those usb adapters? a bestbuy or radioshack?

  • Click the link in the description to the video.

  • @yobeat09 on ebay for about $6

  • if my latop have no power is it die
