  • Love this stuff! Anybody got airchecks from the late 1960's? (My golden years)

  • Wow... Blast from the past ... well not quite. I grew up listening to Dr. Don in the 70's. Very cool seeing him and hearing him again. Thank you. Rest in peace Dr. Don.

  • @Bluesjanet If you like vintage Top 40 airchecks, google reelradio. There are lots of airchecks there.

  • I remember DR in Duluth Minnesota when he was doing afternoons at WEBC AM 560 in the early 1960's! He was a hoot then!

  • Loved Dr. don Rose! Miss him alot!

  • His accent is such a North Platte accent. He sounds like everyone else in that small town! It takes me back to Nebraska.

  • It's so great to hear Dr. Don again after all these years. He got me off to a great start every morning when I was a kid listening to WFIL in Philly. There hasn't been anyone like him since.

  • I miss him, He was my grandpa. I happen to be Dan Rosenbergs Son. Papa Don died when i was 10. miss him.

  • @badnguy915 I did 30 years in radio. Your granddad was a legend and a true gentleman. One of the best that ever lived and that is your heritage. All the best in all you do.

  • @badnguy915 God bless you. He is loved by many people who have great memories of him.

  • Love Dr. Don Rose. Thanks for posting. I really miss him and KFRC's eclectic programming format of the 70s--a true radio representation of the Bay Area, sadly missing from the commercial airwaves now.

  • He was a giant in the radio DJ business, in San Francisco and the Bay Area. I remember him when I was growing up living in San Pablo, Ca., in the 60's and 70's. Sorry to hear off his passing in 2005.

  • Sad that talent isn't allowed on the air any more...

  • Boy, he had the board operator on the go with those fabulous sound effects!

  • What a voice! What fabulous humor! Now, this is a radio superstar...someone every announcer/DJ should emulate. Those were the days! Thank you for being a legend, Dr. May you rest in peace..

  • My first time hearing an air check of the legendary Dr. Don. Air check? Oh, about a hundred and thirty-five p.s.i... ah HA, HA, Ha, Ha, Ha. This man had to make rising by the Bay almost a piece of cake. And that board op - George Zema? - what timing!

  • George Zema, best board op EVER! mz

  • ..the Days @ WFIL FamouS 56....Dr. Don!!

  • I remember waking up one morning in summer 1986 and Dr. Don was spinning up Tony Bennet and other big-band hits on the Magic 61! What!??!! The day before it was 610 KFRC, the next it was Magic 61! He shortly after went to KKIS. Life was never the same after that.....

  • I used to love when my AM/FM alarm clock went off to Roscoe vomiting. He made my day!!

  • What memories! I listened to Dr. Don from 1974-1980, so often, especially on the school bus, which was a one hour ride. I lived 130 miles from SF, yet the signal was clear and strong. I always remembered how cheerful and funny he was.

  • cant believe this guy was at WEBC 560 in Duluth MN.

  • Dr. Don rocked. God Bless Him, RIP.

  • I worked as the Production man at the competition (KYA) for 8 years opposite Dr. Don. My radio was glued to him on the way in to work. I loved the production (I believe) Steve did, and Don was a World class announcer.

  • I remember KYA back in the day; I used to tune to it after Dr. Don. I have memories when I was even younger of "Emperor" Gene Nelson. Another great station.

  • @edybeast Agreed. I miss you Grandpa. See you in heaven.

  • I don't think I could have made it through my teenage years without Dr Don Rose in the morning. I LOVED that man.

  • IT'S SO TRUE. HE LOST BOTH LEGS,I THINK ONE IN A SKIING ACCIDENT,THE OTHER IN AN AUTMOBILE. TRUCKING THROUGH CHICAGO,I HEARD HIM A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO. TONING HIS VOICE DOWN NOTABLY,HE WAS DOING A LONELY HEARTS MORNING SHOW,AND HE SEEMED COMFORTABLE. I HAD A CODRIVER,WHO REMEMBERED HIM FROM pHILADELPHIA TOO. HE SHOULD BE IN WIKI,BUT I HAVEN'T CHECKED.

  • This was like a delicate ballet between Dr Don and Zema! The layers of audio and jokes are outstanding; it's no wonder why Dr Don was such a legend on the radio. I totally remember him doing voiceovers on KBHK as well, when I was a kid. Ah, the good ol' days.

  • What a brilliant talent Dr. Don was. We SO need someone like him on the air now, full of life and laughter. This recording was made during the heyday of my memories of listening to him, and it's so fun to see how it all went down! What a wonderful time in SF radio.

I was able to meet him in HongKong in Dec 85, while he also was visiting there. I tried to find him donuts but alas HK didn't have any! He was a very, very sweet and joyful man, bless 'im! And Miss Him!!!

  • Should there be a radio station by chance in GODs eternal kingdom of heaven..I can only hope to find and hear a "sweetheart' of a man we knew on earth as Dr. Don Rose. Thank You for giving our hearts and lives joy Dr.

    With Kind Regards I AM

  • @sloanetarskavaig Unfortunately, something like this will never again. Society is continuing on its decline with the likes of Lady Gaga.

  • Yeah, he made AM radio a cool place on our radio dial. There has never been anything like him ever since. KFRC 610 right before I headed out to Pinole Junior High school!!!!

  • Yes that Don Rose I listen to him for many years and his Dog Rosco

  • Yes, that is the very same Dr. Don Rose you heard on WKBD-TV (channel 50) in Detroit back in the 70s and 80s. Dr. Don provided patter between cartoons on various Field Communications television stations, including WFLD in Chicago, WKBS in Philadelphia, KBHK in San Francisco and the previously mentioned WKBD in the Motor City.

  • Refer to the comment previous.

This guy I see in this video does not sound like the Don Rose I seem to recall, but I'd like to think he is.

Whether or not he is my Dr. Don I'd like to hear from Detroiters, and former Detroiters, who remember the crazy guy of which I speak.

  • Trust me......that's Dr. Don. Listen closely to his laugh. There's NObody who laughs like that !

  • so true!

  • I grew up in suburban Detroit, and I remember a guy named Dr. Don who would provide amusing commentary during the afternoon cartoons (Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker, and the sort)before and after the commercial breaks. This was in late 70's and early 80's I think. He would usually call himself Dr. Don, but I think I remember him using the name DR. Don Rose. He would speak in a goofy voice and read jokes sent in by local kids. He was always in voice-over, we never saw the Doc.

  • Epic coolness.

  • I remember listening to Dr. Don on WEBC in Duluth, MN back in the mid 60s. He was, and is, my favorite DJ of all time.

  • I am from the Bay Area and he was at KFRC AM 610.

  • I listened to him a lot in the late 70s. I emailed him in 2001 and he wrote back saying that my kind letter "warmed this old rock n roll DJ's heart!". :-)

  • A unique and tremendous radio personality. Corny at times, but always fun to listen to. Working graveyard in the mid 70's, he kept me awake for the last two hours of the shift.

  • Roscoe!

  • I don't live in San Francisco, but I've heard his airchecks on the internet. I've learned that Dr. Don Rose was a TRUE master of Bay area radio!!

  • WOW Dr.Don in the 70s+80s used to be #1 in the San Francisco bay area.great cornball jokes

  • Great video but the video is freezing up a lot.
