This has always been a real tear jerker of a song to me, since the very first time I heard it. One of the saddest songs ever produced - I hope this never happens to me.
Boy, great memories of the 70s. Radio one, Simon Bates, DLT, Kid Jensen, TOTP, Seaside Specials on ITV, etc. Was stationed at Upper Heyford at that time when I was a teen and loved these songs. YouTube is great! Thanks for posting!
you can find a copy on ebay uk i just looked 12 available. that was funny not playing it on hospital radio you could just imagine a road traffic victim lying in bed with earfones on
when i was in my early teen i had this song on tape - and my eyes wet every time i heard it. in my 30s i found the man of my life - our plans for life was full of it all - hes kids mine kids - the child i was carring - but it wasnt ment to be - my X-boyfriend killed him in jalousy. In the time after his dead i phoned him to hear his voice on his answeringmachine - and then it all maked sense - this song i remembered - i will always love him Truely Deeply Madly (savage Garden)
wow...i remember my mum used to play this song to get me and my sister to sleep in the 80's i so love it...i hope someone will bring this song back out into the charts
I heard this on radio the other day, to my wife's disgust I remembered all the words even tho' I hadn't heard it in 20 something years. When the DJ mentioned the age of the song I was disgusted and wanted to throw me zimmer frame out the window LOL
had to look for "hello this is joanie" then had to do a search for the singer then put the singer's name into youtube search and found this the two ns threw me. But I got there and that's the main thing.

My name's Joni, and I have the chorus set as my answering machine message...not morbid because none of my friends have heard the full song ;)
I do love it though...so sad but such a great tune!

Bizarre. A man who gets his kicks out of hearing his dead woman's voice on a telephone answering machine. Good song anyway, despite the subject.
