  • it is so...historical video...i love to watching it... now i can understand that my father told me about Penang in early 1930.. :)))

  • Astro' AEC filmed many stories of Chinese who came to Malaysia. I wonder is there any where we can find them. After seening some, I was shocked all the Kampongs were formed were to put all Chinese were fenced in 1 area and many polices to keep on eye on them and they only could left the gate at 6 am then M?UST return before 6 pm otherwisethey could not enter any more. They couldn't bring much food out of the kampong.

  • @rebeccafoo Yeah, otherwise they might be endengering themselves from the Communist in the jungle.

  • i can't even recognize the street..they look so different now..haha

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you for sharing these amazing clips! It is very rare to see video of Penang before WWII. Just wondering who filmed this in 1932? Someone in your family?

    Capturing Penang

  • @capturingpenang No, it was not filmed by family of mine, but by American travelers.

  • My grandmother arrived in Penang before the Second World War in 1934, Penang would not have changed so much from the video in 1932 then. ;-) Couldn't wait to show this to her when she comes down to visit in KL !

  • This is an amazing video! I'm born and breed in Penang and since I'm only 20, I've never seen Penang in the way the video showed it to be. Great video of the past.

  • @MichaelRogge THanks for sharing! it's so good to see penang on an eye on it's past!

  • Thanks for the upload :)

  • Penang has changed quite a lot nowadays. Have you ever visited Malacca, it is a very nice city indeed and it have been occupied by England and Holland for a period of time. I have been there for 3 times and there is a graveyard for the Holland people.

  • @greatguy52 Thanks. Yes, I did visit Malaysia in 1961, but too short to see the Dutch landmarks.
