  • another great song from my past, weller rules

  • my favourite song since i was tiny <3

  • Missed, bring them back

  • excuse me greasers like the jam too

  • Passed my son's bedroom only to hear 'music' that sounded like a barrel full of cutlery being rolled down some concrete stairs. Then I hear this.........simply no contest. He said I should stick to my 'old fashioned' music. I agree. Tried to talk to him about what being a mod was all about. He'd rather listen to the latest offering by DJ Jizzy Spoon, or something like that. Mods Mods Mods!!

  • @modernworld1879 Your sons missing out dude!

  • One great band!!

  • Tavistock niceiities

  • addicted.....

  • Love it.

  • What a poet...

  • It just doesn't get any better.

  • @bigammoblue

    Agreed.

Came across an unopened vinyl of Dig the New Breed at my work about a month ago.

    Feels good man.

  • Life long weller fan ,this is one of his finest pieces .the lyrics @ the arrangement awsome , the mans a god.

  • Fucking Love it !Thx for posting !

  • love this the jam where the best

  • I keep getting pulled back to this track and I do think that it is now my favourite Jam song.

This was my era and the old Jam songs still make the hairs stand up on my arms.

Maybe one day (but that day isn't today) I'll finally understand why Weller split the band because after about 30 years since the band split a) I can't forgive him and b) I think he's turned into a twat.

  • Absolutely amazing. Weller is a God.

  • "Ghosts" gives me gooesbumbs..

  • This song came out well before I was even born and it's possibly my favourite song ever. I'm a massive fan of The Jam but unfortunately not many people my age even know The Jam which breaks my heart, they are truly one of a kind and should never be forgotten.

  • one person accidentely clicked the dislike button and had to kill himself as a result

  • Did Weller as a solo artist even come close to writing as good as this? Answers on a postcard :-)

  • @hufclufc answers on the back of a stamp mate,he was at the height of his powers with The Jam

  • good....no jam,no rock,no punkrock.......respect

  • Just simply THE greatest band ever

  • WOW! Stunning song!

  • one of the most underrated jam songs just brilliant

  • @thewinnster1 true one of my fav jam songs

  • klassss we r the mods

  • Thank God for the eighties. Music today is non existent.

  • lift up you're lonley heart and walk right on through!!! try and beat that lyric.........................thought so you cant, now fuck off!!!

  • Quite possibly there greatest song...............

  • Most of the best bands don't last forever...

  • love this song, thanks for sharing.

  • one of their best, i looooooove this song

  • I live in the US and found this album in my brother's record collection in 1988. It made me wish I was British and born a decade earlier.

  • Use the silent time at the end of the song to pay your respects to The Jam!

  • saw The Jam 3x as a teenager and I still feel like one listening to their music.

  • Weller is a living genius...

  • Fantastic, takes me right back and still feels as good.

  • Just Fantastic ......

  • a classic in every sense.

  • Every single time i hear this it still makes me feel the same, as it did when i was a lot younger... it never changes...... Grown up with Weller... well sort of grown up..

  • How can one person not like this...ate paint chips as a child did you??

  • @retepk1 he/she didn't like it 'cos he/she is a fucking moron.

  • 30 years on and still quite possibly the most heart wrenching tune ever made. Gotta love the Jam :)

  • This song... can make me cry.

  • One day you'll walk right out of this life, and wonder why you didnt try. You have no idea how significant that line of lyrics is to me in my life! Cheers Paul. ♥ xx

  • Hi Tes, great to have a browse around your stuff - I wrote the lyrics to this song for an English language poetry homework in 1983 (I think?) I got a B minus!!

  • @Dr0wsy your teacher obviously had no taste ;-)

  • With all the shit music that is out today..thats all the kids have to do is open their ears and listen to stuff like this. What has happened to music? It will never be as great as this and I see it only getting worse. Is anyone buying guitars anymore?

  • Though I was never a major Jam fan (but always thought their singles were excellent), this song made me take notice of them when I first heard it (a Radio One live concert in 1981, I think). It was the style of it as much as anything - I didn't know the words at the time. Lots of people can relate to the lyrics, whatever their situation.

  • Weller must be one of the most under-rated songwriters of modern times.

A bit aloof, but a pure GENIUS

  • feel sorry for the kids today .....

  • Amazing song... it was one of my coming out songs... 'So why are you frightened - can't you see that it's you. At the moment there's nothing - so there's nothing to loose'.

It's one of those incredible songs that slowly grows on you, so simple and understated, with lyrics so poignant and true - allowing the listener to relate to the words in their own way relevant to their circumstances. After more than 20 years I still know all the words by heart. Brilliant.

  • omg forgotten all about this tune way ahead of it time awesome ....... memories are made of this

  • For me best thing he's ever written. Don't know how you'd match something as briilliant as this.

  • Jam were only second to The Clash from the golden era, but never quite get the full credit they deserve. Take this, sublime classic but not many even heard of it.

  • Comment removed

  • dislike 0 ... obviously

  • "LIFT UP YOUR LONELY HEART AND WALK RIGHT ON THROUGH"

That is exactly what I have done :)

  • great song

  • Heard this on irish national radio last night, can't believe I forgot how good it is.

  • awesome!

  • @ozmonster2000 Fantastic I hope it helps to take you where you want to go. Musically the list is a fantastic jump off point to explore. I'm not going to suggest what you should listen to but enjoy the journey. Cari saluti

  • Just shows what a genius Mr.Weller is.......

  • @njg4570 Yep!

  • @ozmonster2000 I hope you wake up tomorrow to a grade to reflect your musical taste A star!

  • my favourite jam song always makes me think about stuff :)

  • Oh man, oh man, oh bloody brilliant. I had totally forgotten this 1, shame on me. Thanx & extra thanx

  • great song one of the best the band produced

  • Standards rule ok

  • One of my top 5 Jam tracks - a soulful classic - you could tell Weller was ready for the Style Council...

  • This is my favourite Jam tune, love it.

  • Damn, I miss the Jam.

  • Went from Manchester to Liverpool in the car and had this on repeat all the way there. Happy days.

  • MJ listened to this and created black & white...

  • In the 80's we had Mods, Rockers, Skinheads, Rude Boys, Punks, New Romantics, Teds, Psychobillys, New wave, Reggae, Hip Hop etc. etc. The chart music and the fashion reflected this, what have the kids of today got !? Manufactured X-Factor / Pop Idol shit and gangsta rap bollocks, - YOU MISSED OUT KIDS !!!!

  • Couldn't have put it better myself

  • Ye and they say piracy has killed the music business! Just look no further than that twat Cowell and co. They're the culprits.

  • indeed, i only caught a glimpse of the last 4 years, but wish i was there for the duration.

  • best ever comment - you've hit the nail bang on the head.

  • YOu summed it up beautifully!! We all had our look for our music!! It was great to be alive in the '80's!! I wish I could do it again...

  • I had px 150 in 1981 and I still remember if it was yesterday.

    KTF

  • @srdsol word.

  • @srdsol - No we didn't ;)

  • @srdsol Is this not a generational thing though? 25 years ago I remember OUR parents waxing lyrical about all those 60s bands and saying the same thing.Never ending cycle!

  • @srdsol 80's didn't have emo's

  • @srdsol

    your so right!!

but we do have the accasional good band, they are usually not very famous and if they do become famous are ruined it seems?

  • @srdsol Me and me mates literally say every day how we envy those who were lucky enough to be born into that world.

  • @srdsol

theres some really cool gangsta rap out there tho

  • Right on, why did I have to miss all that...

  • @srdsol you said it, kids today got nothing going no scene fucking shame.

    Mods rule

  • @srdsol i didnt i was lucky enough to have a brother who liked good music so i kind of grew up with this music and some strnage msuic like the knife and i dont think the jam and the knife could be any more different

  • @srdsol we know! some of us are trying to deal with it though, youtube helps

  • @srdsol in all moments are crap

  • @srdsol That comment sums up todays so called "music". Couldnt have put it better myself. When this generation dies, so does music.

  • @srdsol Omg didnt they just

  • @srdsol Yeah we know, but dont worry, we blame it on your generation anyway. At least we all have the jam.

  • @srdsol

Never fear, we have people out there to educate the younger generation of the amazing music out there. I was born 1981 and know this music because of my family members and friends older than me.

I will be showing peers younger than me the music I was shown by my family members or older friends and the music that was around when I grew up with as well as the music that moved me. No type of music will grow old if this trend keeps up. Not to mention the young uns that look for it

  • @krust710 And that young un would be me.

  • Wow, this is the first time I am hearing this song, and I love it!

  • one of the best songs they ever did

  • Just keep on walking down Never ending streets.

One day you'll walk Right out of this Life and then You'll wonder why You Didn't try.

    What a Writer!

    What a Band!

  • always love em even im on is own x x

  • they were well worth watching live,we used to go(my mates)everywhere to see them.

  • Ah The Jam, take's me back.

I got to meet Paul, his late father John (god bless him) and Bruce and Rick as they were staying at The George Hotel in Edinburgh and the manager of the hotel was a friend of my family.

A few album cover's signed and I was sent on my way, but his old man was always good with the punter's, at the end of the day without fans you are a nobody.

Still think Weller's a genius and I know he is far to cool to do a Jam reunion, but what fucking great fun it would be.

  • Man, if that doesn't send the tiny hairs on your spine standing up for a drink. Yoiks, takes me back to the 80s Sydney Mod scene.

  • Great band my Friend.

  • Top choon from a top geezer, is it true this was total improvisation? whatever....ace tune, thanks for sharing.

  • 'How do you feel at the end of the day? Just like you've walked over your own grave?'

  • awesome. long live the jam!

  • Yeah this is fuckin great, i'd forgot'n bout this track tho, makes you remember just how fuckin ace the Jam were/are....

  • weller was amazing

  • Weller would tell you himself (if you caught him in a good mood) that this is also one of his own very favorite songs from his days with The Jam.

  • woah i just heard the jam recently. they are brilliant.

  • i lost my virgin to this song, if any body wanted to know haha

  • I dont know about anyone else... but myself as the uploader of this track will most DEF sleep better tonight..thank god cause i had a crap sleep last night..!!! :)

  • Never heard of the Jam until right now. Guess I've been missing things! First impression: I'm reminded a bit of The Cult.

  • So you´d never heard of them... I wish I were you, in order to... In order to feel again what i felt when I listend to them for the first time, you know...
