i fucking love dogs. but to be honest that dog doesnt look super deprived. dogs are alot different from people. wolves where nomads and so they are much better equipped for storing resources. that dog should have had a constant water source for sure but food prolly wasn't an issue. the lack of water was also not life threatening, maybe discomforting. or maybe the dog just needed making sure it was stocked up. how long is it chained though? its bull shit to lock it up for more than a couple hours

You Really Shouldn't Give The Dog that Much Water all at once! You need to give them a say a Quart for Animal that size, then wait at least 15 minutes before giving them more. They can get Sick just from too Much Water, too soon. They can even Die from it. It's Rare, but it's called Water Posioning. I know Your Instinct is to give them as Much as They Want, & Their Instinct is to Drink It All. But You've got to be smarter here! Ask any Veternarian what I'm talking about! Same thing for Food!

People should take matters in to their own hands when "authorities" fail to respond. In our city the OSPCA is useless, many dogs are left suffering in conditions similar to this. Neighbors complain but watch the neglect and/or abuse continue for years. Hint: If you want to "help"... say you found the dog running loose and you took it home for its own safety. There is no law against helping a stray dog and most of the time the owners won't bother looking for it anyways.... =o)

I agree with the post about the management of giving water in such a situation. Water balances salt. You have to feed the animal too or give small amounts of water over a period of time so the body can maintain the balance. Too much water too fast can cause swelling in the brain and lead to death.

Should you give it this much water after it has been deprived? My friend rescued a dog and the vet gave her a VERY strict diet sheet, including water. If she hasn't eaten or drank in a while she will have a small stomach. If she drinks this much this quickly she's gonna bloat and have all kins of pains....

It doesn't suck for us to have to watch this. It sucks someone neglected her to the point you could actually film this for us to watch. I've never seen my dogs drink like that, even after a long hike in hot weather. I can't imagine how long she must have gone without water to act like that. She had regular vet checks and cooked food and water and long walks and a long garden to play in as well. She lived up to age 12-13. We had her from 8wks. I guess talking about her makes me feel better when I see this poor dog here.
So, what has been done for this dog. It is clear that the dog is being neglected, and the condition of the dog would be enough for animal control to either seize the dog or issue at the very least a heavy citation. I want to know the status of this girl!

When you get a animal or human suffering from dehydration you have to slowly rehydrate.

If she is that deprived of water and you allowed her to drink that rapidly and that quantity, you could very easily killed her within a few hours. Before you do kill a dog you may want to educate yourself on conditions like "bloat" and "water intoxication". I think what you are trying to do is a good thing, but it can be harmful and not helpful. This dog should have only had about 2 inches of water in her bowl every few minutes.

She just can't take matters into her own hands. But she did what she could do without risking arrest, and that was proving water and food. I agree with the post about the management of giving water in such a situation. Water balances salt. You have to feed the animal too or give small amounts of water over a period of time so the body can maintain the balance. Too much water too fast can cause swelling in the brain and lead to death.

Should you give it this much water after it has been deprived? My friend rescued a dog and the vet gave her a VERY strict diet sheet, including water. If she hasn't eaten or drank in a while she will have a small stomach. If she drinks this much this quickly she's gonna bloat and have all kins of pains....

It doesn't suck for us to have to watch this. It sucks someone neglected her to the point you could actually film this for us to watch. I've never seen my dogs drink like that, even after a long hike in hot weather. I can't imagine how long she must have gone without water to act like that. I hope she's in a loving home now and never needs to worry about when her next opportunity for a decent meal or drink will be.

@11301920 I totally agree, I would have took the dog away. I had a german shepherd years ago and she had a wonderful life as dogs should have. She had regular vet checks and cooked food and water and long walks and a long garden to play in as well. She lived up to age 12-13. We had her from 8wks. I guess talking about her makes me feel better when I see this poor dog here.

At the exact point where you said it looks like her mouth had been wired shut at one time, I was thinking the exact same thing and was about to ask that very question. It's clearly a scar. Thank you for being so kind and providing the dog with water; however, please be sure to give water to water deprived animals slowly so that they don't drink too much water too quickly. They can become waterlogged and vomit it up.

German Sheppards are such beautiful dogs. This dog looks severely neglected. If money for food is a problem, please ask a neighbor to help you out. Don't let the dog starve and dehydrate. Also, GET THAT DOG OFF THAT CHAIN! If he has to be tethered, put him on a rope.

Gah! She isn't torturing the dog. It's not even her dog some jerk off "owns" the dogs left them chained to die. She was recording herself giving the dog water and saving the dogs life. x.x It doesn't hurt to read the info about the video before you post or even pay attention to the video you are watching. @ZillahFox We saved a starving dog and we fed him all he would eat and he was fine. He was a big dog. My mother always said feed a starving animal all it will eat. I've always done that and so far no problems.

While she did the right thing she could have killed the dog. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia. When you get a animal or human suffering from dehydration you have to slowly rehydrate.

I hope you didn't end up killing this dog with kindness. If she is that deprived of water and you allowed her to drink that rapidly and that quantity, you could very easily killed her within a few hours. Before you do kill a dog you may want to educate yourself on conditions like "bloat" and "water intoxication". I think what you are trying to do is a good thing, but it can be harmful and not helpful. This dog should have only had about 2 inches of water in her bowl every few minutes.

@fadatak I hear your frustration but had she done that (untied the dogs) she would have been committing a crime and would have been charged with trespassing as well. She just can't take matters into her own hands. But she did what she could do without risking arrest, and that was proving water and food. She filmed it as evidence to provide to the local ASPCA (read the description). Good work, tammyddb!
