YEAH THIS IS THE TEMP BRIDGE, AND THE NEW BRIDGE IS REALLY THE OLD BRIDGE. ALSO PONCE CLAIMED HE FOUND THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH HENCE ALL THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH TOURIST SHIT. BECAUSE. ABOUT THE MOAT, IT HAS BEEN DRY FOR MANY MANY YEARS. ALSO I DON'T THINK THAT WAS THE OLDEST HOUSE, PLUS YOU MISSED KINGS ESTATES, BEAUTIFUL ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO LIVE HERE.
Very nice job! I live here in Saint Augustine and I think you did a great job. Couple of small inaccuracies but overall a remarkable job for someone who just visted us. Come back and see us soon!!
This is funny...Just because the native Floridians were so barbaric, the place had to be discovered by the more advanced europeans....HaHaHa.....No respect to the natives. Priceless....

St. Augustine is remade over so many times it is hard to find anything there really old except the racists. The town is rampant with racism in the: police, fire, county offices. This is one evil town behind the scenes. The FBI does not give a shit.
haha. It has never BEEN the oldest city. It is the oldest continually OCCUPIED city, and that is all. Pensacola was founded in 1559. It was abandoned in '61... then St Aug came along in '65. Other places, like Santa Fe, NM, are also 'older' than St Aug. St Aug has just never stopped being a town, unlike these other places.
Dead true,,,I was just commenting that it is not the oldest,,(Every One thinks it is). I have been to all threes places,My Partner and I travel often ,,he is a Pilot for Delta.
but then again, fighting on the internet is like winning the special Olympics... so i am not even going to go into the question of residents' feelings towards the horses.
Last one i promise: about the horses - yeah, there are some small (annoying) group of people who like to 'protest' -- essentially waving poorly constructed signs for like an hour (man, where has the true American art of protest gone?) but it is entirely wrong to suggest that the vast majority of st aug residents are opposed to the equine business -- otherwise they WOULD be off the streets.
it was actually sinking into the bay because of the poor job the original builders did back in'26-'27(hence the braces on the eastern part of the bridge. other such improvements they are blessing us with: "[Replacing] existing handrails, light poles, and light fixtures with elements similar to the original elements from 1927" and "[Replacing] the bascule machinery and all electrical components and wiring that operates the moveable span."
no they are rebuilding the lions bridge and the one that lifted up is temporary. The lions bridge was rickety and old so they are rebuilding it to be an exact replica.
i have never had this much fun on youtube - thanks again. okay, so you ARE right about 1 thing. the bridge is being expanded. a whole foot, which is really amazingeye popping. life-altering. i am indebted to you. i too am a resident, and i must say that the bridge was not fine the way it was -- if you recall from your numerous travels across the mighty bridge, it had a peculiar way of breaking down like, i dunno... ONCE A WEEK. so no, it was not fine the way it was.
I see you have a little taste of tube-hate. Too bad. Beautiful video. Mine I can see why it ticks off folks but yours is peaceful and tranquil. A shame apple baskets aren't perfect but that is the beauty of diversity.
My family and I vacation in St. Aug very frequently.
Very beautiful and rich with history. I can't count the times we have pulled our camper up to Brn Mawr (spelled wrong) rv resort in St Aug Shores.
hodgie61, why don't you just chill out...I lived there for twelve years, and these guys aren't that far off the mark. All in all, they've done a good job. So learn a little civility ( and some English lessons would help)....
dont ride the horse carriages!!! locals hate them, they clog up the damn streets, and everyone must go 5-10mph over the speed limit!! AND know where the fuck you are going mapquest it bitch!! The Old bridge is being renovated, cosmetic pieces will be used again but structure and lift devices will be updated. Oldest town for USA, Vikings visited what is now Canada hundreds of years before Columbus
thank you hdgie61.HA! i always love a good laugh -- especially when i get it by reading stuff from uneducated people. First off, the locals DON'T hate the horses. They do clog up the streets -- but that is because of years of bad city management and planning.
if it weren't for the carriages, everyone would be flying through the tiny streets. s it is now, they help maintain a slower pace for the traffic. the 'Old' Bridge (actual name: Matanzas Bay Bridge) is NOT being renovated, btw. it is being entirely reconstructed back to its 1927 standards (i bet you were a 'save our bridge' activist by the way you know your history).
so instead of getting a nice new modern bridge, we (the TAXPAYERS) are paying exorbitant amount of cash to get the old thing back again... and anyone who says thetown is the oldest in the US is just as undereducated as you. St Auggy is the oldest CONTINUOUSLY OPERATED settlement -- your dear vikings friends left, i am afraid to say (Pensacola is older, as well as Santa Fey, NM, and a few other places -- all of which failed).
I thought the bridge was fine the way it was although i was not an activist and yes i traveled over that bridge 5 days a week for 10 years. The bridge is being widened and upgraded with reliable efficient mechanical aspects, some of witch i can guarantee you were not around in 27'. I actually know the civil engineer of the project.
I'm a local and i recall my 'hate' to a dislike of the horses. your first sentence has been dis-proven. The streets are clogged b/c when the city was first being expanded to where the horses venture the city planners didn't and couldn't account for cars.
Couldn't get past the oh yeahs.... Too bad

Make sure to visit where St. Augustine, Florida began in 1565 at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park. Plenty of parking and pet friendly too!
