He was a good player - but at 34 he's missing easy opportunities and should not represent Algeria at the World Cup. He needs to retire with dignity and let Ghezzal or Ziaya, or even Djebbour play for Algeria.

You know i kind of agree with what ur saying but also looking at his age by 2014 he will be 38 and retired so this should be the first and last time he will ever play at a WC the other young guys still have many chances up ahead, i think he is still physically fit "Look at the dash he did in Zambia for the 2nd goal and you see that he out sprinted everyone to get to the pass" but i noticed that he lacked support up front its like they are playing 4-5-1 or something but anyways he retires this yr

Sadaane's job is to pick the best. I have seen Saifi miss too many opportunities. Too many. He just isn't good enough and Algeria needs all the help in can get up front. with regard to the formation, algeria can only play 4-5-1. It is a good formation, very popular and has won many cups for many teams, although mainly defensive, it allows the midfield to score (ziani, matmour, meghni, yebda/lacen, bezzaz/abdoun). Problem is Algeria is weak up front. So its either Ghezzal or Ziaya.

Sorry bill, The fact of the matter is that Saifi was the most reliable scorer in qualifying for th WC. And he plays with effort. At 34 he will not be playing for a transfer or to get a reputation- he'll be playing his last major tournament and will thus not face as much pressure as the others. Ziaya is untested at any major level. Ghezzal is not a prolific scorer, though his physicality helps the team. Djebbour is unfit.

Good point, but I have seen Saifi miss goals that I am sure Ghezzal or Djebbour would have scored had they been on the field. We'll see after the African Cup. Algeria needs a Drogba/Eto/Adebayor, without that they will always fall short. So keep playing Ziaya on his own up front during African Nations. Substitute him for Ghezzal last 15mins to consolidate the score, or play them both up front and take a midfielder off with Belhadj playing in a sweeper function. Belhadj isn't good enuf as winger.

I share with you the same opinion / I believe this player is not able to perform well anymore in the stadiums ,therefore Sa3dane has to realize the weakness of the national team and fix it, otherwise our national foot ball team won,t go that far .????
