Sounds like Lubetkin just wanted a showcase for his modernist agenda. He certainly wasn't thinking about creating a suitable habitat for wild animals. If human beings found it difficult living in conrete jungles, imagine how depressing it was for the animals in the zoo. I went to Dudley Zoo in the 80s, and I've never seen such depressed or dishevelled looking animals in my life. I hope they've improved it today.
