so how did you modify the top cover? did you just use a dremel? the other question is how did you put the charging handle on the left side of the bolt?
I cut the cover with a cutoff wheel and cut the charging handel off with the same tool. I fliped the handle upside down and welded it to the other side. Smoothed everything off and painted with duracoat. Works awesome and most people don't even know I did it.

Personally, I don't think it's worth it, because you then have a gaping hole in the other side for debris to get into.
It's nice to have slightly faster reloads, but as Clint Smith says, "I've never seen a stopwatch at a gunfight."

Well said, and it isn't hard to charge the AK with you're left hand, I reach it from behind the magazine under the trigger guard.

It's not about speed as much as its about taking your eyes off the sight picture. Getting back on and focusing is the primary reason. That time could mean your life. If you just spray and pray it doesn't matter at all but most if not all tactical rifles made to day are set up this way. As for the hole, theres already one on the other side and its an AK!!! it will fire even if it is filled with shit.

No I'm a righty, This way I keep the AK on target and in focus for a quicker mag change. Reaching over or under to charge takes the rifle off target.
