And yes this perticular version is sung in danish, not riksmål. But the is becuase the band is danish, just as Tyr is faroese and might sing it in "gøtudansk"(I dont know, though their version sounds like riksmål to me). Remember these languages are very similar. :)
Týr do sing in Gøtudanskt, it is sung in the Faroe islands. gøtudanskt is basicaly Danish prenounced as it is written. You can't no longer tell by hearing Rigsmål that it's Rigsmål, as it is not a spoken language. The Faroese commonly use Gøtudanskt when they are asked to speak Danish spontanously, because regular Danish is nothing short of a "pain". watch?v=DXN1c11ZyqI
It is a norwegian song written in "riksmål" similar to danish, it is not farose, danish, old norse or anything, just norwegian with an "old accent" if you like. And yes iam norwegian and a history student so my word is law! :P
@Isurarreith You might be a Norwegian history student, and you might think your word is law, but when this song was written, there was no such thing as "riksmål". Hence, it could not have been written in riksmål. The song was written in Danish, since this was the only written form that existed in Norway at the time.
A complete English translation of the song is now available, together with an extract from Eivor Palsdottir's version called "Led er din Sang", at the sinclairgenealogy website (check out Sinclair's ballad under Scandinavia), plus links to the versions by Tyr, Gny and Folque. Does anyone know of others?
ive heard both the folque version as well as tyr's. and i must say as big of a metal head as i am i prefer folque's. this one is ok but since i am used to the others this just sounds off to me.
tyr sings this song in old norwegian witch is very simular to danish.. allso faroe was a norwegian province until the black plague hit norway.. But at the time this song was written danish was the written language in norway..
There is no such thing as faroese version of Sinklars Vise. Remember that the faroese are still part of the kingdom of Danmark, lot of their ballad are sing in danish. This version is good, but the tyrs one is way better.
No, it is not norwegian, i am sure... I am learning this language, it is not similar... But shall some norwegian or faroese tell us about that language :P
gøtudansk is the language spoken in the faroes during the language ban - the danish government forbid the use of faroese language in all public places, and hence we made gøtudansk, a language with more danish than scandinavian words and an accent mixed between faroese and danish, mostly faroese
I think the danish suits it well, it sounds softer... although it is better in norwegian...never heard it in faroese...and sorry, too lazy to write in Norwegian today <<
Jeg har desværre ikke noget med Gny at gøre, andet end at jeg har filmet et par af deres optrædener, men du kan skrive til dem på deres hjemmeside, eller MySpace-side (link i beskrivelsesfeltet).
Does anybody know chords of this song?? I would play it :)

I think, that Tyr's and faroese language version of Sinklars is better, but those bagpipes are excellent

No such thing as a faroese version? Don't tell me that gøtu-dansk is more danish than faeroese..
Harri Sinklar in danish is the worst version I've heard so far.. They must feel that something is wrong, when they say: "Vel op før dag"
lol

Tyr is a faroese band that SOMETIMES sings in faroese, this however is confirmed to not be sung in faroese.
