Because Avantasia is a project band where he can experiment and write a different sort of music than in Edguy, guess he like having 2 bands with somewhat different songs making it more fun for him to write the material.

Actually it's the same band, minus/plus a few members =P They went for a more serious tone for this after they (Edguy) made the song "Avantasia" which was one of their more serious works.

I love both these bands... First chance I get, I'm seeing them on one of their North America Tours
