I had this problem but can you make a video showing how to fix the down vacuum line under the elbow next to the black box on the left near the passenger side. Thanks.
Someone wrote 10w-30... but doesn't the vortec take 5w-30. I put 10w-30 in mine thinking it would be ok for hot summer since its similar to the 350... but motor knocked immediately upon startup and failed to stop, so I changed it back right away.
I guess the blend valve is my next thing to look at. Can't find it referenced in the Hanes book. Have you replaced one? where do I find it? Getting ready to tear into the center dash area. I'll keep you posted if I get a fix. Reading the Forums, Many Astro owners have heat problems, but I haven't read a definate fix yet. thanks.
Great info. Great video.I tracked down this problem a while back on my 99 Astro. Those plastic lines don't take the engine heat very well. I got a new problem. Air controls work normal, but no heat front or rear. Replaced the front and rear control valves, installed new thermostat, reserviced the coolant. Heat worked great. Went on test drive engine came up to operating temp, and air went cold. Hoses to front heater core are very hot, but air is just 80 degrees. any Ideas?
@frankie2234 My wife got them for us for the better tasting- more natural eggs. They're still too young now, but they should start laying here in the next couple of months.
@jagravesr You're blower motor or the resistor or the conection to either of the two is shorting out. Get under the dash with it running and get bump'n it brother! See if you can duplicate the intermittency by bumping specific parts to get them to manifest symptoms. Also the resistor is under the hood-passenger side in that big black plastic box.
Brain my epc comes on in my vw gti 2002 i ran codes. but only comes up secondary air flow p0411. nobody seems to be able to help car drives but only on long trips. Funny thing is this happened immediately after I washed and oiled my K&N Filter
that is actually really helpfull. I have a similar problem with my crappy blazer but it only goes to Defrost when I hit the gas and put a load on it. not all the time. I will have to text you about the buffer issue. dealers seem to be at a loss.
My 98 jeep grand cherokee has this setup for the Zone control too.I want to replace the WHOLE line.... I know where it connects up on the engine side but im not sure where it connects to on the inside of the car. Anyone know?
@binnsh Bonus EVAP Benefit? After fixing this line, some long standing evap codes went away. I have not traced the lines, but I bet the broken line also supplies vacuum to the evap system at the tank, and that was my evap problem! Again, many thanks!
This is a big problem on the S-10's & Sonoma's (1994 to 2003), Blazers, Jimmy's & Bravada's (1994 to 2004), too! The hose is located on the other side (driver's side) but same Bat Channel, same Bat Problem! The key is to know Defrost is the Default position! 4WD adds an additional potential problem, as the trans fluid from the transfer case can be sucked into the vacuum lines over time, due to a leaking seal between the TK and transmission. Great video Brian hope your head is unscathed!
@epiphaknee lol thanks for sharing on that.- It'll heal. I'm all tore up from poison ivy (daughter had it all over her hands and grabbed me enthusiastically) so I don't even notice it. ; )

@cabablanc I'm not certain on that one. It's likely going to be under the hood because that's where the heater core and evaporator are.

@cabablanc Could be crud on the outside of the heater core or a failing blend door.

I'd love to see more Astro repairs. I got 5 of these bad boys that we use for work vehicles. This is a common problem along with the fan resistor.

@calmini4x4 I'd just follow it. Usually they go in through the same hole the AC lines go in through.
