yup, what it is what it is, or as i say it is what it is

  • YOU CAN'T FOOL WIT JB WHEN IT COMES TO COMPOSITION,RIGHT ON MAN!!

  • Bell bottoms, Afros, and platform shoes shit. Oowww

  • newbirth

  • icanunderstandit

  • Three words, Toe Jam Funk!!!

  • Esse cara e de mais canta muito.

  • James gets all the love...lets give some love to the JB's too....Maceo, Fred, Pee Wee, Bootsy & all the others.

  • a half...a half pressed suit from the pawn shop.

  • This whole album is a funk bomb, to me it's James's last great full album were you can just let it ride.

  • To all those who question 'what applies', take out the all seeing 'I' and you are left with, APPLES.

Round and Green, know what i mean

  • Play this on Wall Street!!!

  • @oneluv72 I agree!!!!!!

  • The stakes is high.

  • WHAT IT IS IS WHAT IT IS.

    RIP KING OF SOUL.

    THE GURU HAS SPOKEN.

  • omg

  • Even though from over 35 years ago it still applies to today and is just as strong. It is what it is! Be Cosmic ...

  • This is the shit right here ...

  • It is what it is!

  • james brown is arguably the most influential musician of our time. james brown didnt just create rap he is one of the founders of funk music and all rap beats are sampled and looped funk tracks or sounds. james being one of the most sampled along with george clinton of parliament funkadelic due to bootsy collins playing bass and guitar for both.

  • Not even 110 thousand views,,unbelieveable,,yo brothers across the nation,,pass on that right on information!

  • Kool Moe Dee Death Blow!

  • @phukubeeyotch d-nice did this one too...

  • i hear so many classic breaks in one song james brown flaws and is a bad man

  • lookie here

  • I'm A James Brown fan

  • FUN-----KY!!!! His bands always sounded so cool to me. I mean REALLY listen to all that's going on. Dig it!

  • False truths, and self serving justifications of male dignity, is a foreign concept to weak souls, genuflecting. Brothers need careers, not jobs. Brothers need futures. All men look to the future. Lie to yourself, lazy con.

    Holla

  • e40 sampled this beat on that Dow'n and Dirty Click tape the song was called SOHOB

  • Now Brothers need jobs, If you don't work you can't eat. You need mind power to deal with starvation......What it is, is what it is.....Some bull shit on capital hill.

  • this is so awesome. cant stop moving to this tune

  • One of the most influential tracks of all time. No question

  • Im 33 and ive always known who james was but really didnt know who he is. for the past 3 years of my life as funny as this sounds, this man has played a big influintial role in my life becomming a man and having drive and hustle. Soul brotha numba 1 will be missed by many

  • 238 people believe in the mind power, i'm one of them (sorry for my english, i'm italian) JB lives

  • stiil relavent

around when rappin started. rappin -speaking/talking a message

hard to belief afirm. act. was just like 30 yrs ago

  • stiil relavent

around when rappin started. rappin -speaking/talking a message

  • @danathedude77 NOBODY WILL FLAT OUT SAY THAT JAMES BROWN CREATED RAP. THEY NO DAM WELL THAT IT'S TRUE. THEY THINK THAT IT'S ONE BIG TITTLE TO GIVE TO ONE MAN, AND EVERY RAP ARTIST WISH THEY CAN CLAIM IT. BUT THAT TITTLE BELONGS TO BROWN, LIKE ALL OF HIS OTHER TITTLES. BLACK FOLKS HAS TO MUCH HATER IN THEM THAN RESPECT FOR THIER BROTHER.....

  • stiil relavent

  • i like this sond it for real expecially in these times

  • the driven rhythm is awesome

  • It goes like this you want to know how heavy he was to black america and threat to another back in those days. He was on that list that the (powers that be) wanted to get rid of: Malcolm, MLK, JFK brothers, James Brown, and The greastest of all time...Ali.

If Martin and Malcolm where the head of the operation then James Brown Chief Number 1, he reached deeper into the community and touched those that aforementioned couldnt and they believed them cause JB was a brother off the street.

  • peace,to the true god-father of soul.can i get a soul clap.

  • one person accidently missed the "like button"!!!!

  • what it is is what it is. just love his political ways, he speaks the truth baby.

  • The hardest working man in showbiz! No one beats Mr Dynamite!

  • wonderful

  • this was made in 1974!!! 1974!! How scary is it that this applies to 2011! If you don't work..you don't eat! this my friends is why this is forever be TIMELESS!!! People think the phrase "it is what it is" is something new. Bitch Please!! it came from the JBE!

  • @98SLABRIDER I can't agree with you more that song should be the anthem for this recession aND like the godfather says It Is What It Is you got to have mind power to deal with this shit that exists today Long live the godfather of soul godfather of funk yes.

  • Bend your back funk. The purest funk around. Miss ya J.B.

  • k-solo-tales from the crackside and demon boyz-international karate....

Brilliant tune by a brilliant man, rip

  • Just funky!

  • vibes, vibrations....

  • FUNKY!!! FUNK! FUNK!!! FROM SOUL BROTHA #1!!! SON! CMF TRIBE!!!

  • "Gimme some Flute"

  • @ 3 + : GBE The brother out of NY that he refers to is Gary Byrd, who while on WWRL had a program called The Gary Byrd Experience (GBE). He went on to WBLS and WLIB, and worked with Stevie Wonder on several projects--esp. as a lyricist. Bad tune. Thanks.

  • Try to articulate what "Funky music" is with words and you will fall way short. But just by hearing jams like this, it's all fully explained -- and then some. If funk were a physical being, this groove would be encoded in its DNA!

  • This is one of most bad ass songs JB ever made because he was shining a light on the ghettos all over the U.S.A.He always did that, R.I.P James Brown.

  • 'being as young as i am....you know' ; )

  • Aaaaah get some flute, get some flute!!! Ha Ha JB and his band was the truth and still is along with p-funk if you ask me. No one can touch this stuff and never will.

  • i love it when he says look a here!

  • GREAT! R.I.P!

  • why people like him are missing. we need more like him

  • I FEEL GOOD!!! Oh wait, that isn't this.

  • what it is, is what it is....R.I.P. Godfather of Funk...This man was far ahead of his time and has influenced and inspired a lot of people. But yet is so underrated by so many....

  • @giraud74 I agree with that, they should do a James Brown, UNSUNG on TVone

  • SOUL, SOUL, SOUL! I WILL NEVER GET ENOUGH OF IT!

  • Gotta be one of JB's finest tracks

  • HIP HOP as we know it!!!

  • What it is is wht it is... My daddy used to say this all the time! This reminds me of the skating rinks back home in Chicago!!!

  • LISTEN

  • yepp....yea boy..!!

  • One of his best tracks ever! Should have been a single off the 'Payback' album from 1974.

  • This needs to be the national song today. What it is, is what it is.

  • The man is a lengend in music! He's the only guy who can make a scream sound good! Another song with an inffectous beat like papa don't take no mess! Good post!

  • The man is a lengend in music! He's the only guy who can make a scream sound good! Good post!

  • Compton, CA West 136 st....SOUL BROTHA!!

  • Comment removed

  • you can almost feel the 70s nostaliga(thats the best word i can think of at this point).for me anyways hits me with all kinds of images

  • james is alive

  • unreal....

  • James Brown was the Mozart of our (and when i say "our" I mean black, poor yes white too, downtrodden, any kind of minority or mixed race mothafucka) time. People wanna downgrade him. He was a consumate musician, bandleader and businessman. He stood up for self and let the funk prevail. Yeah, in his declining years he said some disparaging shit about "brothers." How would you feel if your own people tried to steal from you incessantly, discredit you and act like animals? James Brown forever!!!!!

  • @BreezelyBruin brothers need jobs!

  • West End ATLANTA

  • omfg... i colapsed on this fckn song.... this is the shit

  • Nuthin but the truth....this is real music!

  • Not only a very funky record, but a very educational and positive one that is timeless. Should be played on radio stations all the time!

  • @macdance71 Yes sir! The "GodFather" gave us the sounds; that energized our Mind, body, and soul.

  • @lowendfella AMEN!!!!

  • J Dilla sampled this for "Stakes Is High" by DeLaSoul

  • These were the days of dressing in your "Regal-Bucks" & starched "Dickies"; and letting your flag hang from your back pocket. Hot Damn! We sho' nuff' set a world-wide trend with this thing that was ours. (To all the survivers keep the feet moving in the right-direction.)

  • oh this does it for me :-)

  • always gotta love bboying too mr brown and the group

  • This song was SAMPLED FOR BLACK EYED PEAS song "THEY DONT WANT MUSIC (Monkey Business LP) along The same JAMES

  • Great track. Love the lyrics.

  • The GB Experience he's referring to is the Gary Byrd Experience. Gary was a dj at WWRL (AM) in New York along with Frankie Crocker, Hank Spann, Gregory, etc. He later went to WLIB and WBLS (where he is today), also in NYC. He also collaborated with Stevie Wonder. A pioneer.

  • thats interesting.how do you no this.i no gary bird the crown ,is this the same gb

  • @teltronicz James knew all the R&B radio d.j.s throughout the country, and since he had a home in Queens where WWRL was located (Woodside), he would have known the various disc jockeys there. Though younger than Frankie Crocker (who was an MC for James at the Apollo in '68), Gary Byrd was also a member of the Buffalo Brigade, which included Crocker and Hank Spann. Imhotep (now on WBLS) had a program I used to listen to called the GBE: the Gary Byrd Experience. Thanks for asking!

  • @Streamline09 Oh yeah, being from the Jersey Shore we got the New York stations. I remember Hank "Have Mercy Now!" Spann and Gary Byrd. I still have Byrd's 45 of "Soul Traveling."

  • @njblack73 You can now check out Imhotep Gary Byrd on his Sunday talk show online at WBLS. Sadly, Hank Spann, "The Soul Server," died last fall (October 2009).

  • @Streamline09 Thanks. Man, sorry to know that Hank passed.

  • i just love the visual picture that springs to mind when he be wearin a half, a half pressed suit from the pawn shop and ten inch shoes. yes yes yes! there will be no funk greater than this. X

  • i think its tennis shoes sorry for blowing your image

i love the line bout the catfish head stew

  • @mamarouxxx - LOL! It's tennis shoes! That's funny!
