I do not think his crimes should be forgotten, and i question whether certain ends were worth the means, but neither should the fact that he got results, and that he worked for the good of the people. Unlike all these communists regimes that do all talk or all these dictatorships that talk of a better economy, he was the man behind the scenes who did what it took to get his visions to reality, and he got results because he didnt focus on stealing from his country.
Park Chung Hee was brutal after the early 70's, and he was involved in many killings indirectly. However, he, unlike almost all other dictators, actually gave a shit about his country, and instead of stealing from it, was efficient and grew South Korea's industry rapidly. He had to steamroll his visions to reality, and as such he sacrificed his life basically because of his leadership style because he knew all the pro-democratic protestors would get him back.He was a visionary, not a bullshitter.
1◆ Truth:“Phong Nhi and Phong Nhat massacre”, “Go Dai massacre”, “Thái Bình massacre”, “Tay Vinh massacre”
South Korean military has massacred more than 300,000 Vietnamese in the Vietnam War. In each village of Vietnam, there is a monument engraved "We never forget the atrocities committed by South Koreans"
2◆ Articles May 6, 1999 "Hankyoreh 21" South Korean weekly magazine ---- "Massacre by Korean troops in the Vietnam War" ---- Author : Coo Soo Jung, Korean history researcher.
"Testimony of survivors"
South Korean soldiers gathered women, the elderly and children in one place, and they shot the villagers in the machine gun.
3◆ South Korean soldiers broke the heads of children, and they cut off the necks of children, and they cut off the legs of children, at the end they tossed them into the fire. South Korean soldiers raped women and killed them. South Korean soldiers in the military boots crushed the belly of pregnant women until the fetus were torn out from the belly. South Korean soldiers cornered the villagers to the tunnel, and they killed the villagers in poison gas.
1★ Hey, cruel Korean hypocrites, why don't you apologize to Vietnam?
From 1965 to 1973, South Korea (=the poorest country in the world at that time) sent a large number of Korean soldiers to Vietnam as American mercenaries. The total amount of compensation from the United States is $ 235,568,400! Ignorant young South Koreans should know Korean chaebols (Samsung, Hyundai or so) have developed on the basis of remuneration of the massacre of Vietnamese people.
2★ During the Vietnam war, American soldiers were amazed at the crazy atrocities by Korean soldiers. South Korean soldiers repeated "war crimes=Massacre of unarmed residents" in the Vietnam War. South Korean soldiers massacred at least 9,000 Vietnamese residents, and the total number of victims is more than 300,000 !! Vietnamese survivors cannot forget the fear of the Korean soldiers. Korean soldiers indiscriminately killed at gun machines the elderly, women and children.
3★ One of survivors says South Korean soldiers dropped crying pregnant women and children into a well, and threw a grenade into it. Obscene Korean soldiers always wildly raped young Vietnamese women and killed them. South Korean soldiers also set fire to all houses in every village. During the war, Vietnamese female survivors raped by Korean soldiers had 3,000~5,000 children of mixed race.
4★ Dirty former Korean soldiers have kept secret this brutal massacre in Vietnam for long time, and the South Korean government never apologize formally for Vietnam even now.
Japanese did not massacre Koreans, but paranoid crazy Koreans loudly repeat "apology! apology! "
First of all, shameless cruel South Koreans should apologize for Vietnam !!
South Koreans economic growth is based on bloody Vietnamese victims.
1★ In 1965, South Korea and Japan signed a basic treaty. By this treaty, South Korea got from Japan " No redemption 300,000,000 U.S. dollars "," Fri fee 200,000,000 U.S. dollars "," Private loan more than 300,000,000 U.S. dollars " ( total 4,500,000,000,000 yen at current prices. The South Korea's national budget was 350,000,000 U.S. dollars at that time. )
2★ Total loans from Japan were 600,000,000,000 Yen from 1960 to 1990. By these capital funds, South Korea has achieved miraculous economic development named "miracle on the Han River". South Korea has developed " Gyeongbu Expressway " and a variety of infrastructure. South Korea has strengthened " Pohang steel company " and the other companies. After infrastructure was developed, a major investment was made by Japanese private companies.
3★ The South Korean government never notifies the public of the fact that a large amount of financial assistance by Japan has contributed to the development of South Korea. Many South Koreans believe South Korea has achieved economic growth on their own. On the other hand, the South Korean government has been promoting anti-Japanese education, and the South Koreans terribly curse the Japanese.
Do you understand why the Japanese hate the South Koreans ?
@oneofthejapanese By the same token Japanese must be believing their miracle was achieved on their own when it fact it was the US orders due to Korean war jump started their economy. While money provided was from Japan and US money by itself doesn't necessarily do the work . It's how you use it which is where Koreans come in. Stop with your projapanese paternalism. Japan unlike Germany has yet to fully take responsibility for their deed in WWII.
Yes he was authoritarian. Yes he repressed political opposition. But the most important yes is that he laid the foundations for Korea's development and rise to its position today. Korea owes him a lot, indeed. Personal liberties in exchange for prosperity? well, that is the history of the asian tigers, Korea included and even China today. And I think it has worked, in spite of its obvious costs.
General Ba'ak is no hero. Citizens were poorly paid and overworked. S. Korea's economy was heavily dependent on the Japanese. A lot of the hotels were built along side brothels. Prostitution was where most of the money came from during the early years of independence.
The tyrant ran the country with an iron fist. The U.S. let him get away with it because he accused his opposition as communist sympathizers.
You have to show both sides, not just one. How else are we to learn from history?
Maybe it was the only way to transform Asia's poorest country into the industrial monster of today. South Korea is the greatest economic miracle of the twentieth century.
General Ba'ak overthrew the civilian gov't, and promised to step down. He never did. That's why he was assassinated. S. Korea's economy was based on the Japanese model. Corporations in SK are family owned and run called Chaebol in Japanese it's called Zaibatsu.
Ba'ak cut a deal with the Japanese, it was controversial because there was a clause in which future reparations would be forfeited for money and technical aid.
@KunwooFilm yeah fm was really brutal but i think is beacuse he has many enemy...because during those time we are 2nd powerful along japan...then, we have an excellent leaders, government, resource and thus we are a socialist democracy/parliamentary during those times..and those time communist are everywhere. and we know america vs communist, maybe us is afraid that we might be use//being allied and especially during us time/marcos time the dispute in sabah..they betrayed us....
@KunwooFilm If we compare and contrast and rank the dictators of the world it would be a neverending argument. We should see how each dictator/leader fit in with the culture and history of their nation and evaluate the necessity or unnecessity of brutality. Park was brutal because he oppressed his opponents including the people and with his militarized governmentality based on masculinity he turned the people into cultureless machine parts used to develop the nation.
Respond to this video... But through his rule it brought Korea back on its feet and kickstarted the economic success that we see today in Korea. Which to many was worth it. He is to me the most controvertial figure in post 1950 South Korean history. Being an ex-Japanese military officer who became president and ruled with an iron fist, and helped the economic growth of a broken nation beyond anyone's dreams, but with heavy costs such as democracy and growth of culture.
@technical010 i'm glad that you know our president ahaha...honestly i think fm is not corrupt he's great..its just that he and ninoy and cory and all of us are victims actually we really doesn't know who is behind..but for me and almost some of us..think it was america or china especially the one who control our economy our chinese, that why our constitution now is failed full of protectionism maybe they want to secure and not happen again but i guess thins are changing now...
@technical010 i don't want to sound arrogant, but i know everyone knows that my country has a full potential of being in line in super power...because we are a bless country..almost all of natural resource we have and its people also..but i think the world is scared..that why...we even have the yamashita treasure and the lemuria like switzerland where all of the world gold is ours...its just that us keep it because of balance of power..thats why we have a long dispute....
@technical010 and even in the bible is our country is written...and it has a prophecy and we believed that one day...we will restored our empire...and we believe everything would change because it lies in our heart....
Well we in occident admire Alexander the great for invading other nations, I admire this guy, South Korea was weak, was a country defeated by north, 100US$ per capita The Rep Democratic of Congo is on 300US$ at push inflation my god, a nation in the situation of SK needed strong leaders or SK could fall down as Africa failed nations in war, corruption and lack of educative system.
One of the things that had SK compared to Africa was a educated population of 75% of readers that is important
While I give credit where it's due and Park deserves alot of credit for his leadership and direction, it wasn't he and him alone who caused the miracle. The bulk of credit should go to the people of Korea who sacrificed so much and worked so hard to get to where they are today.
hey,you should watch 유신공화국 on youtube.then you will understand how i feel about president park jung hee.remember one thing.he was a great president in terms of economic success, but very brutal leader.
@Lee7676 Yes, he was a brutal leader but was he the most brutal leader? Not really. When you think about it, he is one of the more lenient and liberal dictators of Korea and in the world. Well and thats exactly what he did, he gave up Korea's political liberties for the good of the Korean people. Yes, I have watched it already when I was making this video long long time ago.
@KunwooFilm what do you mean that Park Chung hee was not among the most brutal leaders. He is one of the more lenient and liberal dictators. He had democracy activist executed. Didn't allow labor unions.
@redwhitedude Don't worry, there is no country which can't develop with huge assistance and investment from Japan. It is Korean nature ignoring it. I'm not intending to blame Koreans because they are such kind of race. Koreans are good at school but too impudent to respect morale and ethics of other cultures, that is why they are looked down from world. How much money have been given to Korea from Japan, and how many legal accusation have been made against Korean companies may surprise you.
@moontokyo The controversy was that Park didn't get enough money for compensation for the colonial period. Regardless the aid money and technical assistance from Japan by itself did not help the development of Korea there were other factors, i.e. the vietnam war and the significant US aid that Park manage to extract from the US. I'm not to suprised that Japan's contribution is downplayed other countries will end up doing the same thing about foreign aid in the textbooks.
@redwhitedude You are ignoring the investment of annexation period. And you haven't read any articles which beyond allied and Korean aristocrat propaganda it seems.
@moontokyo you are ignoring the Korean war and the fact that Korea practically had no skilled labor force even with the annexation period. The industries were concentrated in the north which south Korea was cut off.
@redwhitedude Education facilities and infrastructures are evenly built all over the Korea, I think. As you mentioned industrial facilities were built mainly in North and Korean war is surely needed to be taken into consideration. It might not be your interest but 700,000 million dollars of Swap allowance given to Korea by Japan few months ago is an example Japan has been offering Korea other than ODA.
@moontokyo While I acknowledge japanese assistance based on your previous post it seemed like you were minimizing Korean accomplishments by emphasizing Japanese assistance. Your example of recent aid doesn't really make much of a difference now since Korea is such advanced state of development now. However aid in the 60's and 70's is much more significant. Also I recall Pres Chun Doo Hwan asked for aid in 80's to host the Olympics in 88. I don't know if this is true but I sort of heard something
@redwhitedude Korean did good job of course; however, their nature to hide truth has made current miserable situation. Korean economy has collapsed decade ago and Japan and IMF made huge commitment at that time; however, Korean didn't pay any gratitude and ignored it. Then again Korean begged Japan for monetary assistance and Japan gave it recently; however, there is no voice of gratitude coming to Japan, rather they brought sex slave propaganda again to extort some more money. Sick country.
@vsh137 You need to make some research about Simon Wiesenthal Center. CCP, Korea and Simon Wiesethal Center are working together to spread false history. All educated people have faith in positivism today. Because Holocaust, Nanking Massacre, Unit 731, Sex slave issues and so forth have been proven as false story, decreasing number of educated people still believe those. You should remind that Korean history become a laughingstock to those educated.
@moontokyo Look at China now. They are getting lots of knowhow from foreign sources I don't think in the history books in the future they will go around saying that foreign aid was a huge contributor to their countries development. This is not just Korea but other countries will do this. Koreans have historically been insular so the average Korean is totally ignorant especially the older ones. I think the same can be said of Japan and probably china, insular countries.
@moontokyo Yeah, I heard Korean companies getting bad rap, especially korean managers supposedly mistreating workers from other countries. Without being familiar of such incident I can't really comment much aside from the insular culture of Koreans from previous post. By todays standard the money given from Japan to Korea in the 60s is peanuts but you are overlooking the other big contributor USA. In some ways the US was more significant. Access to US market for export is huge.
@Lee7676 The thing about a good historian and a logical and educated human being is not only the ability to TAKE in information but also to think if the source of that information is valid and unbiased. It was a nice discussion we had here. :)
@Lee7676 Yes he was a brutal leader... but even more brutal would have been the brutal starvation and poverty of South Korea today...without Park Jung Hee!!!
The money, which Korea received at times, was not loan. 3/5 was given, 2/5 was the loan. Don't make a lie! Korea had been getting the ODA support until they joined to OECD in 90's. Those money is not paid yet. When Korea went bankrupt in 1997, Korea got support from IMF. They paid back the money to IMF but not to Japan yet. Koreans really realize how much they have been helped by the Land of Rising Sun. Watch your mouth, the son of poverty!
@NoNoSpice if you are talking about the money that the Japs gave back to the Koreans to compensate for their thirty years occupation of the Korean Peninsula in order to restore the two nations' foreign relation, yes they were not paid back, but it was puny compensation for all the damages caused by the Japs. Mr. Rising Jap...explain to me why Korea was so poor?
@NoNoSpice It was because of your people's selfish imperialism, which ravaged our country and the division of our country after your defeat followed by a war that your selfish people once again exploited to make money. Hey and lastly! You faggots did not "rise" by yourselves. It was America's generous aid and the Korean War that saved your sea monkeys. Now I really regret donating money to your Jap Earthquake fund. Shit keeps happening to you monkeys, because of Karma, be humble to the world
Everything bad for Koreans is the fault of Japan. Everything good for Koreans is done by Korean hardwork and wisdom. Korean mentality is so screwed up. Korea was so miserably poor and weak, so she had to beg us to annex. Your stupid ancestors got lucky by having got the civilizatation free. You should appreciate for Japan. Korean war was totally your own fault. Kim Ilson attacked S. Korea. You fucked up your country by yourself. Don't spit on others!
@NoNoSpice Hey there buddy...I never said it was all because of the Korean people. I mentioned in my video that American, W. German, and the JAPANESE LOANS were CRUCIAL to Korea's economic success. You Japs did modernize early, and that is the only reason why you guys got ahead compare to other Asian nations. That is ironic since it was the Koreans who introduce the Japanese a writing system, metal, pottery making skills, masonry, and etc.
@NoNoSpice After fucking up the whole country with your imperialism, you Japs just left after exploiting a country for 30 years. What happens? Soviet Union and China just steps in to take over North Korea, while the Americans came to South Korea. THis cold War shit is the only reason why you Japs still have an economy. THEN Korean War.
Wake up Korean! Even the tiny Korea became the moderately developed country by the great support of Japan by now. Why in the hell did Japan, which was already the world power at the beginning of 20th century, need the Korean war to recover the country? The demand from the Korean war was less than 10 % of what we had at the time. There was not much factor of Korean war for Japan. You should have the question to your Korean interpretation of history.
It is very funny to see Wikipedia in English. The financial support part is missing. Japan money, which was more than 10 times of Korean national income, was given to Korea for this Hangan Shit. Don't ignore the most important thing! Koreans can't do anything without Japan money. There is no miracle!
@NoNoSpice Alright...another Jap who cannot speak proper English but like to bash other people.... Okay... douchebag like I said before like 400 times... the Japs did give the South Korean a large loan, but they were paid BACK. (Germans also gave the Koreans a huge loan.) Hey...and you know...for sucking the Korean peninsula dry for thirty years, little aid is only a tiny tiny compensation don't you think? Remember Japan could not possibly exist without US's Marshall Plan and the Korean War
The US could learn a thing or two from South Korea. It's absolutely pathetic how all the jobs have been outsourced to China by greedy pigs. South Korea hasn't bought into such crap.
and his chief of security force cha ji chul told park' in cambodia, 1 million got killed by their govermnet.there will be no problem if you killed half million koreans'
@KunwooFilm all im saying is park jung hee was a smart president, but he was a brutal dictator,he killed lot of innocent koreans without any reason.the day he got assasinated by KCIA director, park said to his KCIA director' 1million get killed by government force in cambodia,it is ok to killed 10000 koreans if they rebel against me!' that crazy mind made KCIA director kim jae kyu to killed president park. in park's mind it is not big deal to killed civilians
@Lee7676 Kim Jae Kyu was drunk off his ass and meant to shoot Park's other right hand man when he accidentally shot President Park. The whole thing about I killed him with a purpose came after he realized how much he fucked up. When did this happen? Please be more specific, and do you have a good source? If this is true I would like to know.
@KunwooFilm who says that kim jae kyu shot president by accident? do u speak korean? i speak korean so i read lot of books and also kim jae kyu's final statement on court martial! he said'i must killed president because
yushin institution is based on park jung hee himself so in order to end yushin, i shot president'.kim jae kyu wasnt drunk when he shot president.he purposely killed cha ji chul and president.that is why he called over army chief jung seung wah in to control army after coup
@KunwooFilm and you can not give credit to park jung hee alone for south koreas economic success.
if you are korean teacher at public school, you cant say anything bad about park jung hee.why because one of your student will tell the authority and next day koean CIA will torture you to death and make you as a communist! this is not just happen in school but everywhere in bars, night clubs everywhre.and japan gave money to park jung hee so park started to make factories, developed weapons!
@Lee7676 First of all, well yes Park Chung Hee did not create South Korea's economic success by himself. It was because of the Korean people's willingness to work. I never said he was not a dictator He was a dictator who held on to power for a long time. However, was he corrupt? No. Was his people corrupt? Yes. BUT were they bad as his predecessor or successors ever since? No. Was the communist threat real? Yes. Did he kill his people senseless? No. He was a dictator, but a benevolent one.
@KunwooFilm was park get rid of most of generals who was born in north korea and put generals who was born same state like him(kyung-sang do)park used torture in order to control his people.there was a former KCIA chief who tried to publish books everything about parks regime, got kidnapped in Paris by parks order,
they killed him and they put his body into provender and gave to chickens so nobody cant findout his body.
@Lee7676 You still haven't cited your previous claims... Please back these statement of yours with facts. Last little statement you just said reveals that you were brainwashed by left wing borderline commies. Night clubs?? I don't think they had night clubs in Korea in the 70s. Also, Korea got most of its economic aid from the US and W. Germany. The fact that you stress Japan and ignore those two big giants shows that the your source was only aiming to bringing down Park.
@KunwooFilm park knows that people likes his wife but people hate him,so he set up assasination plan looked like japanese korean tried to shoot him but missed and killed his wife.every south koreans felt sorry for lost his wife and they cried bitterly, and yet evidence shows park secretly ordered KCIA to kill his wife! i ask you one more time.do you speak korean? you must watch and read about parks true nature.
korea got money from Japan. ask 김종필! he went to japan and make secret deal.
@Lee7676 That is the biggest bullshit story ever. Well first of all Park was supported by most of his people and was actually democratically elected as the president legally in all his terms. You can make up all the lies you want, but without any facts you are just babbling bullshit, stop wasting my time. The bullet was aimed for him...dip shit....have you seen the video? It was a fucking tragedy where a communist attempted to kill Park, and that was not the first time the commies tried.
@Lee7676 Hey buddy, calm down. I never said he was not a dictator. I never said he didn't kill people, so he could stay in power. I never said Kim jae kyu was a communist, I said he was drunk when he shot Park and that it was an accident. And HEY! maybe YOU SHOULD READ MORE BOOKS :) Reading is fun and educational you know? I never said I like dictatorship, to be honest I think its horrible. BUT Park happened, and it turned out his rule did some great things for OUR country.
@KunwooFilm park like to have sex with actress,singers,nurse... kCIA member park sun ho testified before jury.that is not my problem
kim jae kyu planned park's assasination in 1978.park will never retire from his office.every korean thought kim jong phil will be successor of park.and yet park persecuted kim jong phil. i respect parks achievement as a leader.but he killed too many
innocent people.even in korea park is very controversial figure.some people like him but some people hate him.
@Lee7676 People in power all did something shady. But that doesn't and shouldn't take away achievement a man has done. Park deserves credit for putting in foundation of Korea's development. Many Koreans and political pundits are so Extreme black and white. You find a fault in one man, they try to discredit everything about them. No one is perfect. These are men not gods. Even the best CEO and managers of the world are considered success if they make right calls 51% of the time.
@Lee7676 AND yes he loved to drink, and yes thats exactly what he was doing, but probably not far as sex :) Also, President Park planned to retire after the Korean economy was in good condition. Well we will never know if thats true or not. Do I like him as the president? Yes. Do I like what he did as a dictator? Hell no, I think its wrong. So heres the lesson for you. Don't get so angry, thats why we Koreans have the reputation for having a really short temper. Read more books! Okay? :)
@Lee7676 Yes, Park did make deals with the Koreans, openly and secretly, and he did secure the loans that were crucial to Korean's economic revival. Hey, next time maybe you should say he was a communist Alien who wanted to steal coals from the Earth people. Stop lying and stop wasting my time.
@Lee7676 Did he make factories and companies that saved the world's poorest people? Yes. Did he develop weapons? Yes. ALL of Korea's own modern weapon systems were all initiated by President Park.
Miracle? Do you know from where did poor Korea get money for this miracle? Japan, the Land of Rising Sun kindly gave you the money, when the miserable and tiny peninsula made a treaty with Japan. There was no miracle except how Korean got this huge money from Japan.
@NoNoSpice How much money did Europe and Japan receive from America's Marshall Plan? How much money and resource did Japan suck out of Korea during its occupation?? SHITLOAD more than Japan ever gave back in aid LOAN, which was paid BACK. Also, if you want to compare who gave more aids? It was actually the Americans :) It was a miracle, because unlike the Japs, the Koreans didn't have the capital, technology or the educated population when it was starting out.
@NoNoSpice Also, unlike the Japs, who relied on the Americans to protect their asses, Koreans actually had to maintain a huge standing army to protect themselves from the communist aggressors up in the North.
@toshimoshi no.in 1973,park ordered arrest of hana club members and tried to destory hana club.chun doo hwan told park that 'hana club is serve only park jung hee and no one else.you need royal men like us.' so park didnt get rid of hana club.park jung hee was a brutal dictator that he used to torture many south korean senators, 1979 october 26th he said'in first republic president lees guard ordered fire to civilans so he got hanged, but im president! who will give me death punshment?
I think Koreans now are more appreciative( at least those old enough to remember) of what he has accomplished. In the 80s people were fresh out of his repressive regime so they were chaffing at his regime.
Very moving. 대한민국!!!! This should be required viewing for all Koreans of the youtube generation. Thanks for putting this in English too - hard to find.
@PhoDaggerz In 1965 Park Chun Hee came to Japan to get the support from Japan. Japan gave 5000000000000¥support to Korea. So Korea developed in economy. Korean forgot it soon.
@baron706 PLEASE Tell me where you got that number....you are saying that the Japanese government gave Korea 5 Trillion Yen in 1965? That is bigger than the entire fricking Korean economy in 1965 and Japan was not capable of giving away such astronomical amount of money to a foreign country. First of all, the Japanese gave 600 Million dollar LOAN to Korea and the Korean government did pay them back, so please support your bullshit with facts.
@baron706 Even though you are one of those numerous Japanese douche with sole purpose of living is to post hateful comments about Korea and to lie about Japan to make you look good on Youtube, I hope that Tsunami didn't affect you or ones you love.
Japan is great country with strong minded people and hope that the country recovers quickly. I truly hope the nuclear reactor situation ends well and prayer goes out to all those affected by Tsunami.
@baron706 And Japan was the country who held Korea for 35 years, make more than 200,000 woman into sexual slaves and use korean farmers as soldiers at the ww2, destroying the life of an entire country. Who the fuck do you think you are to use money as a way to defend Japan like that? get your facts straight before filling your mouth with this racist shit, thank God, not all the japanese people think like you.
@lilith2014 The draconian government of the Republic of Korea from 1946 to 1980's was just as brutal as the Japanese. Perhaps it did not involve the entire nation, but it's sad to think that our own government would do this to us. The Jeju Uprising... Turned into a massacre and a rape fest... The Bodo League Massacre slaughtered innocent men, women, and children. Most people believe 1.2 million had died in 1950 from their own government.
Those who have been poor and are still poor will most of the times remain poor. But, those who have been rich and prosperous or have potential and become poor will most of the times fight against poverty. This is what happened to SK, it was rich before the 20th century, and had potential to rebuild, so there we go, its grown, and soon North Korea is bound to follow suit, whether it'd be by removal of its current government, or by being united with SK. Go KOREA!
He had seen the development of Manchukuo based on Japanese investment in infrastructure and heavy industries when he was a officer in the Manchukuo imperial army. Intending to acquire money and technology for South Korea via Japanese grants and soft loans, Park normalized diplomatic relations with Japan in 1965 Park's strategy succeeded in attracting Japanese capital and technology, to develop South Korea's heavy industry and infrastructure
Park Chung Hee was a real hero, he turned a impoverished nation with practically nothing into a economic powerhouse producing some of the finest products in the world.
He is one of the few competent politicians that ever lived, and did things that wasn't even a pipe dream for the average South Korean before the miracle happened. It's people like Park Chung Hee who should be honoured and the world needs more Park Chung Hee's more than ever.
@TheFreshmeat31 you know what the japanese reminds me of? you know the little game u play with those fishes that open their mouth and u have to catch it with the magnetic fishing poles? they kinda remind me of those fishes, always sticking their head out and opening their big ass mouth , but really no one cares about what they think or say. =]
@pplarzza that goes out to you, no one cares about what u gatta say, yeah he was born under japanese occupation, but you can NEVER take the korean out of a korean man. Long Live korea! .. ~Fresh KP, Fresh Kimchee~
Very nice movie, after watching it. I am more convinced that China will become a very developed country in less than 20 years. china has better starting point of GDP per capita $4200 in 2010, while south korea in $100 in 1961, China has all the resource, while south korea has none, China has almost 3 trillion U.S dollar in 2010,while south korea korea has none in 1961. Both country are similar in culture, The chinese authoratarian ruler in 2010 is better than Junta of south korea in 1961
Its a pity that your video only has few thousand hits where as president roh's tribute videos have tens of thousands. I'm an young adult myself but our generation really needs to wake up and pay homage to the real hero of our country. In the last millennium, we've had 3 heroes. First is Se-Jong Daewang for Hangul which gave us our entity. Second Admiral Lee Sun-Shin for defending our country from being taken over. Lastly President Park Chung-Hee for eradicating starvation and poverty (보릿고개).
Wow.. This nation it's an example. I just hope that one day, my nation, tired of injustice and corruption will be able to assume it's destiny in such incredible way, like the Korean people did it, regards from Colombia..
none nation become strong and acheves the development just with foreing invesment, it doesn't matter how much help or money you get from others, what matter is what you do with this help. South Korea used their limited monetary resourses in new industries from being a really weak nation of 79US$ in 1950 to a real power of 27,800US$ at 2009, what a hard path had been it? only old koreans knows it. In 1950 nobody would gave a light of hope for South Korea, they has the mind of confucian fenix
Well done, very interesting. I really didn't realize how much South Korea has developed in a span of only 55 years. I would give you an A+ for this video if I was your teacher..
Korea manse!!! 대한민국 만세!! Long live Korea! From Russia ( with love, ha ha ). Korea is the best. Korea has everything best that Japan has, everithing best from China, and the best that Taiwan has. There are no Japanese -style pervets in Korea, no Chinese-like dirt on the other hand. Korean roads are better then in some Western European countries, Internet is the fastest, car parkings are better than Western Europe. Korea is the best!
Korea became rich due to access to USA markets for export. Park was a pervert and oppressive guy. He had one of his many lovers rip apart her vagina. Terrible guy.
Korea would have done equally well or better with any other guy at the top. The economic miracle is simply the result of America opening her markets wide open for Korea, as payment for US army being stationed there...still.
Know what you are talking about before posting silly things.
@redinsam US market was always open to Korea... the only difference was that before Park Chung Hee South Korea was exporting real hair for wigs and squirrel (yes, no shit...they actually exported squirrel in the 50s and early 60s as pets to the US and Europe, because Korean squirrel are apparently adorable) and after Park South Korea was exporting steel, cars, chemicals, and etc.
@redinsam Also, US army being stationed in Korea was a FAVOR for the Korean not the other way around. During Park’s presidency, the United States actually wanted to pull out of Korea, but Park lobbied and threatened to obtain nuclear weapons if US withdrew from Korea. US already had a major base in Japan, so why bother with Korea? Therefore, my point is this excuse me…but you should know the facts first before you write shit about something, you fuck head.
@KunwooFilm US helped korea in it's development. The real work was done by the hard work of the people. US helped many nations but they weren't as rapid as the koreans, so I suggest that you show some respect for the old people in south korea who worked restlessly for the country's benefit.
@kero7642 I agree with you and I do respect them, because they are my grandparents too. But this was a school project about Park Chung Hee, and my time was limited to only 10 mins, so I apologize if you feel that this video left out a lot of thing about the hard working people that made the economic development possible. If I every make any additional video in the future, I will make sure my video centers around them. Thanks
if what you say was true, then in South America, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina were developed. USA market had been opened for almost every country, but morons and corrupts presidents with no ambition of seing their countries developed in mayority of time is what makes the difference. In my nation Venezuela we had our Park Chung Hee too, his name Perez Jimenez, he did more for Venezuela in 6 years than the corrupts that arrived after. Venezuela had the first nuclear reactor even before Japan.
I feel exciting, proud everytime I watch this

I do not think his crimes should be forgotten, and i question whether certain ends were worth the means, but neither should the fact that he got results, and that he worked for the good of the people. Unlike all these communists regimes that do all talk or all these dictatorships that talk of a better economy, he was the man behind the scenes who did what it took to get his visions to reality, and he got results because he didnt focus on stealing from his country.
Sulyaman 1 week ago
Park Chung Hee was brutal after the early 70's, and he was involved in many killings indirectly. However, he, unlike almost all other dictators, actually gave a shit about his country, and instead of stealing from it, was efficient and grew South Korea's industry rapidly. He had to steamroll his visions to reality, and as such he sacrificed his life basically because of his leadership style because he knew all the pro-democratic protestors would get him back.He was a visionary, not a bullshitter.

3★ The South Korean government never notifies the public of the fact that a large amount of financial assistance by Japan has contributed to the development of South Korea. On the other hand, the South Korean government has been promoting anti-Japanese education, and the South Koreans terribly curse the Japanese.
Do you understand why the Japanese hate the South Koreans ?
oneofthejapanese 1 month ago

South Korea is the greatest economic miracle of the twentieth century.
r8wing 4 months ago
General Ba'ak overthrew the civilian gov't, and promised to step down. He never did. That's why he was assassinated. S. Korea's economy was based on the Japanese model. Corporations in SK are family owned and run called Chaebol in Japanese it's called Zaibatsu.
Ba'ak cut a deal with the Japanese, it was controversial because there was a clause in which future reparations would be forfeited for money and technical aid.

@KunwooFilm yeah fm was really brutal but i think is beacuse he has many enemy...because during those time we are 2nd powerful along japan...then, we have an excellent leaders, government, resource and thus we are a socialist democracy/parliamentary during those times..and those time communist are everywhere. and we know america vs communist, maybe us is afraid that we might be use//being allied and especially during us time/marcos time the dispute in sabah..they betrayed us....
dexz17 7 months ago
@KunwooFilm If we compare and contrast and rank the dictators of the world it would be a neverending argument. We should see how each dictator/leader fit in with the culture and history of their nation and evaluate the necessity or unnecessity of brutality. Park was brutal because he oppressed his opponents including the people and with his militarized governmentality based on masculinity he turned the people into cultureless machine parts used to develop the nation.
youngohj 5 months ago
Respond to this video... But through his rule it brought Korea back on its feet and kickstarted the economic success that we see today in Korea. Which to many was worth it. He is to me the most controvertial figure in post 1950 South Korean history. Being an ex-Japanese military officer who became president and ruled with an iron fist, and helped the economic growth of a broken nation beyond anyone's dreams, but with heavy costs such as democracy and growth of culture.

1970.. South Korea overtakes Philippines
1980.. South Korea doubles Philippine Standard of Living
1990.. South Korea proclaimed NIC
2000.. South Korea entered industrial status.. while Philippines is still left under developed
2007.. Philippines was proclaimed NIC
Philippines is now more than 15 years behind.. S.Korea
technical010 3 months ago
@technical010 but I think Philippines given its geography and demographics would have been a harder country to do what Park did to Korea.
redwhitedude 3 months ago
@redwhitedude
But at least with Luzon and Mindanao.. they should have developed like South Korea
Concurrently in 2 dimensional.. and left only Visayas the hard part.
By 1964 it was proven that Philippines had more potential than South Korea
Because Filipinos can deal with EU.. they speak Spanish.. and can deal with US
they speak English
South Koreans didn't speak much English until 1980s and can barely relate to EU
except for Germany.
Geography is not a problem.. then relocate to flat land
technical010 3 months ago
@redwhitedude
The reason why South Korea now is trailing Japan in technology and Philippines is 10 years behind
technology.. cannot make its own cars or its own brand of electronics and relies on US or etc
Because Philippines and Filipinos lack sense of History.. that lead to low national self esteem
Filipinos cannot give something that would compare to the King Sejong.. or Yi Soon-Shin
or other heroic ancient historical background like Koreans
which also affected the psych.
technical010 3 months ago
@redwhitedude
Due to lack of self-esteem of Filipinos.. due to negligence in historical content
and national identity and too much unquelled rebellion.. the economy plundged into foreigner reliant one.
Where Filipinos try to find their identities from the IMPORTED products they buy from Japan or US
Calling themselves well of in 1960s if their products that they use is from US
and worse.. that PH imported heavily from JAPAN in 1970s-1980s and failed to support
its own automobil industry

While I give credit where it's due and Park deserves alot of credit for his leadership and direction, it wasn't he and him alone who caused the miracle. The bulk of credit should go to the people of Korea who sacrificed so much and worked so hard to get to where they are today.

How much money have been given to Korea from Japan, and how many legal accusation have been made against Korean companies may surprise you.
moontokyo 3 months ago
@moontokyo The controversy was that Park didn't get enough money for compensation for the colonial period. Regardless the aid money and technical assistance from Japan by itself did not help the development of Korea there were other factors, i.e. the vietnam war and the significant US aid that Park manage to extract from the US. I'm not to suprised that Japan's contribution is downplayed other countries will end up doing the same thing about foreign aid in the textbooks.

@moontokyo you are ignoring the Korean war and the fact that Korea practically had no skilled labor force even with the annexation period. The industries were concentrated in the north which south Korea was cut off.
redwhitedude 3 months ago
@redwhitedude Education facilities and infrastructures are evenly built all over the Korea, I think. As you mentioned industrial facilities were built mainly in North and Korean war is surely needed to be taken into consideration. It might not be your interest but 700,000 million dollars of Swap allowance given to Korea by Japan few months ago is an example Japan has been offering Korea other than ODA.
moontokyo 3 months ago
@moontokyo what does that swap allowance have to do with the development of Korea from the 60's until now?
redwhitedude 3 months ago
@redwhitedude I thought we were talking about Japanese assistance to Korea. It was merely an example.
moontokyo 3 months ago
@moontokyo While I acknowledge japanese assistance based on your previous post it seemed like you were minimizing Korean accomplishments by emphasizing Japanese assistance. Your example of recent aid doesn't really make much of a difference now since Korea is such advanced state of development now. However aid in the 60's and 70's is much more significant. Also I recall Pres Chun Doo Hwan asked for aid in 80's to host the Olympics in 88. I don't know if this is true but I sort of heard something
redwhitedude 3 months ago
@redwhitedude Korean did good job of course; however, their nature to hide truth has made current miserable situation. Korean economy has collapsed decade ago and Japan and IMF made huge commitment at that time; however, Korean didn't pay any gratitude and ignored it. Then again Korean begged Japan for monetary assistance and Japan gave it recently; however, there is no voice of gratitude coming to Japan, rather they brought sex slave propaganda again to extort some more money. Sick country.

Because Holocaust, Nanking Massacre, Unit 731, Sex slave issues and so forth have been proven as false story, decreasing number of educated people still believe those. You should remind that Korean history become a laughingstock to those educated.
moontokyo 2 months ago
@moontokyo Look at China now. They are getting lots of knowhow from foreign sources I don't think in the history books in the future they will go around saying that foreign aid was a huge contributor to their countries development. This is not just Korea but other countries will do this. Koreans have historically been insular so the average Korean is totally ignorant especially the older ones. I think the same can be said of Japan and probably china, insular countries.
redwhitedude 3 months ago
@moontokyo Yeah, I heard Korean companies getting bad rap, especially korean managers supposedly mistreating workers from other countries. Without being familiar of such incident I can't really comment much aside from the insular culture of Koreans from previous post. By todays standard the money given from Japan to Korea in the 60s is peanuts but you are overlooking the other big contributor USA. In some ways the US was more significant. Access to US market for export is huge.

Korean war was totally your own fault. Kim Ilson attacked S. Korea. You fucked up your country by yourself. Don't spit on others!
NoNoSpice 10 months ago
@NoNoSpice Hey there buddy...I never said it was all because of the Korean people. I mentioned in my video that American, W. German, and the JAPANESE LOANS were CRUCIAL to Korea's economic success. You Japs did modernize early, and that is the only reason why you guys got ahead compare to other Asian nations. That is ironic since it was the Koreans who introduce the Japanese a writing system, metal, pottery making skills, masonry, and etc.
KunwooFilm 10 months ago
@NoNoSpice After fucking up the whole country with your imperialism, you Japs just left after exploiting a country for 30 years. What happens? KunwooFilm 10 months ago
@KunwooFilm
NoNoSpice 10 months ago
It is very funny to see Wikipedia in English. The financial support part is missing. Japan money, which was more than 10 times of Korean national income, was given to Korea for this Hangan Shit. Don't ignore the most important thing! Koreans can't do anything without Japan money. There is no miracle!

Lee7676 10 months ago
@KunwooFilm and you can not give credit to park jung hee alone for south koreas economic success.
if you are korean teacher at public school, you cant say anything bad about park jung hee.why because one of your student will tell the authority and next day koean CIA will torture you to death and make you as a communist! this is not just happen in school but everywhere in bars, night clubs everywhre.and japan gave money to park jung hee so park started to make factories, developed weapons!
Lee7676 10 months ago
@Lee7676 First of all, well yes Park Chung Hee did not create South Korea's economic success by himself. It was because of the Korean people's willingness to work. I never said he was not a dictator He was a dictator who held on to power for a long time. However, was he corrupt? No. Was his people corrupt? Yes. BUT were they bad as his predecessor or successors ever since? No. Was the communist threat real? Yes. Did he kill his people senseless? No. He was a dictator, but a benevolent one.
KunwooFilm 10 months ago
@KunwooFilm was park get rid of most of generals who was born in north korea and put generals who was born same state like him(kyung-sang do)park used torture in order to control his people.there was a former KCIA chief who tried to publish books everything about parks regime, got kidnapped in Paris by parks order,
they killed him and they put his body into provender and gave to chickens so nobody cant findout his body.
how can you say park is benevolent leader that?
Lee7676 10 months ago
@Lee7676 You still haven't cited your previous claims... Please back these statement of yours with facts. Last little statement you just said reveals that you were brainwashed by left wing borderline commies. Night clubs?? I don't think they had night clubs in Korea in the 70s. Also, Korea got most of its economic aid from the US and W. Germany. The fact that you stress Japan and ignore those two big giants shows that the your source was only aiming to bringing down Park.
KunwooFilm 10 months ago
@KunwooFilm park knows that people likes his wife but people hate him,so he set up assasination plan looked like japanese korean tried to shoot him but missed and killed his wife.every south koreans felt sorry for lost his wife and they cried bitterly, and yet evidence shows park secretly ordered KCIA to kill his wife! i ask you one more time.do you speak korean? you must watch and read about parks true nature.
korea got money from Japan. ask 김종필! he went to japan and make secret deal.
Lee7676 10 months ago

KunwooFilm 10 months ago
@KunwooFilm park like to have sex with actress,singers,nurse... kCIA member park sun ho testified before jury.that is not my problem
kim jae kyu planned park's assasination in 1978.park will never retire from his office.every korean thought kim jong phil will be successor of park.and yet park persecuted kim jong phil. i respect parks achievement as a leader.but he killed too many
innocent people.even in korea park is very controversial figure.some people like him but some people hate him.
Lee7676 10 months ago
@Lee7676 People in power all did something shady. But that doesn't and shouldn't take away achievement a man has done. Park deserves credit for putting in foundation of Korea's development. Many Koreans and political pundits are so Extreme black and white. You find a fault in one man, they try to discredit everything about them. No one is perfect. These are men not gods. Even the best CEO and managers of the world are considered success if they make right calls 51% of the time.
Xentradi97 9 months ago
@Lee7676 AND yes he loved to drink, and yes thats exactly what he was doing, but probably not far as sex :) Also, President Park planned to retire after the Korean economy was in good condition. Well we will never know if thats true or not. Do I like him as the president? Yes. Do I like what he did as a dictator? Hell no, I think its wrong. So heres the lesson for you. Don't get so angry, thats why we Koreans have the reputation for having a really short temper. Read more books! Okay? :)
KunwooFilm 10 months ago
@Lee7676 Yes, Park did make deals with the Koreans, openly and secretly, and he did secure the loans that were crucial to Korean's economic revival. Hey, next time maybe you should say he was a communist Alien who wanted to steal coals from the Earth people. Stop lying and stop wasting my time.
KunwooFilm 10 months ago
@Lee7676 Did he make factories and companies that saved the world's poorest people? Yes. Did he develop weapons? Yes. ALL of Korea's own modern weapon systems were all initiated by President Park.
KunwooFilm 10 months ago
Miracle? Do you know from where did poor Korea get money for this miracle? Japan, the Land of Rising Sun kindly gave you the money, when the miserable and tiny peninsula made a treaty with Japan. There was no miracle except how Korean got this huge money from Japan.
NoNoSpice 10 months ago
@NoNoSpice How much money did Europe and Japan receive from America's Marshall Plan? How much money and resource did Japan suck out of Korea during its occupation?? SHITLOAD more than Japan ever gave back in aid LOAN, which was paid BACK. Also, if you want to compare who gave more aids? It was actually the Americans :) It was a miracle, because unlike the Japs, the Koreans didn't have the capital, technology or the educated population when it was starting out.
KunwooFilm 10 months ago
@NoNoSpice Also, unlike the Japs, who relied on the Americans to protect their asses, Koreans actually had to maintain a huge standing army to protect themselves from the communist aggressors up in the North.

there is no doubt in my mind that president park jung hee is one of the best leaders in korean history.but during his 18years rules
1.total control the media
2.his top government officials took so much money
3.he punished anyone who opposed his rule(torturing senators happened all the time)
4.if anybody opposed yu shin system he will court martial which means death
5.he tied up with jaebul like samsung, hyunday,LG, and other small compaies he killed most of them.
6.makes hana club.

uhh hana club was chun doo hwan....

Great report.
I think Koreans now are more appreciative( at least those old enough to remember) of what he has accomplished. In the 80s people were fresh out of his repressive regime so they were chaffing at his regime.

Firstly, love Korean people
Secondly, love kimchi and soju
but to be specific
dun think the Government is ever good with business
beside making socialism package (stimulus wateva)
Park Chung Hee succeeded by making use of Chaebol
who are excellent in business
and providing the right environment for grow (stability)
think this part is important bcs only free market can make a country rich
not some strange stimulus package and interference from govn

@PhoDaggerz In 1965 Park Chun Hee came to Japan to get the support from Japan. Japan gave 5000000000000¥support to Korea. So Korea developed in economy. Korean forgot it soon.
baron706 1 year ago
@baron706 PLEASE Tell me where you got that number....you are saying that the Japanese government gave Korea 5 Trillion Yen in 1965? That is bigger than the entire fricking Korean economy in 1965 and Japan was not capable of giving away such astronomical amount of money to a foreign country. First of all, the Japanese gave 600 Million dollar LOAN to Korea and the Korean government did pay them back, so please support your bullshit with facts.
KunwooFilm 1 year ago
@baron706 Even though you are one of those numerous Japanese douche with sole purpose of living is to post hateful comments about Korea and to lie about Japan to make you look good on Youtube, I hope that Tsunami didn't affect you or ones you love.
Japan is great country with strong minded people and hope that the country recovers quickly. I truly hope the nuclear reactor situation ends well and prayer goes out to all those affected by Tsunami.
santaria360 11 months ago
@baron706 And Japan was the country who held Korea for 35 years, make more than 200,000 woman into sexual slaves and use korean farmers as soldiers at the ww2, destroying the life of an entire country. Who the fuck do you think you are to use money as a way to defend Japan like that? get your facts straight before filling your mouth with this racist shit, thank God, not all the japanese people think like you.
lilith2014 10 months ago
@lilith2014 The draconian government of the Republic of Korea from 1946 to 1980's was just as brutal as the Japanese. Perhaps it did not involve the entire nation, but it's sad to think that our own government would do this to us. The Jeju Uprising... Turned into a massacre and a rape fest... The Bodo League Massacre slaughtered innocent men, women, and children. Most people believe 1.2 million had died in 1950 from their own government.
shiron236 10 months ago
@baron706 Korea never got any supports from Japan except for IMF crisis currency swapping in 1998, but paid back in 2001.

Intending to acquire money and technology for South Korea via Japanese grants and soft loans, Park normalized diplomatic relations with Japan in 1965 Park's strategy succeeded in attracting Japanese capital and technology, to develop South Korea's heavy industry and infrastructure
in short, japan helped korea again!

Lastly President Park Chung-Hee for eradicating starvation and poverty (보릿고개).

none nation become strong and acheves the development just with foreing invesment, it doesn't matter how much help or money you get from others, what matter is what you do with this help. South Korea used their limited monetary resourses in new industries from being a really weak nation of 79US$ in 1950 to a real power of 27,800US$ at 2009, what a hard path had been it? only old koreans knows it.

Know what you are talking about before posting silly things.
redinsam 1 year ago
@redinsam US market was always open to Korea... the only difference was that before Park Chung Hee South Korea was exporting real hair for wigs and squirrel (yes, no shit...they actually exported squirrel in the 50s and early 60s as pets to the US and Europe, because Korean squirrel are apparently adorable) and after Park South Korea was exporting steel, cars, chemicals, and etc.

@redinsam HEY buddy...if you think you are so fucking smart, debunk anything I said.
KunwooFilm 1 year ago
@redinsam Also, US army being stationed in Korea was a FAVOR for the Korean not the other way around. During Park’s presidency, the United States actually wanted to pull out of Korea, but Park lobbied and threatened to obtain nuclear weapons if US withdrew from Korea. US already had a major base in Japan, so why bother with Korea? Therefore, my point is this excuse me…but you should know the facts first before you write shit about something, you fuck head.
KunwooFilm 1 year ago
@KunwooFilm US helped korea in it's development. The real work was done by the hard work of the people. US helped many nations but they weren't as rapid as the koreans, so I suggest that you show some respect for the old people in south korea who worked restlessly for the country's benefit.

if what you say was true, then in South America, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina were developed.
