  • 4 People must be console MGS fanboys who wanted this on ps3 and whineing about it being on psp.

  • To dream again in the light Waiting for a storm to rise and Feel the isolation fleeting Calling to the night To be or not to be fighting here Leaving without you, leaving my soul behind Calling to the night Colors of Kodachrome fade with time Calling to the night For us, for every single life All the ashes of men remain as a perfect memory Calling to the night But the heart will remain As a silhouette of time Hear the ringing echos in the splitting horizon Calling to the night
  • Lyrics

Through the night to the day

    When everything is gone

Carry this soul away from the dry lands

In the sun we see fighting over lines

All our dreams and wishes we send home for safe keeping

    Fighting for what’s right

    Calling to the night

  • ursula/elisa is Timmy Turner?

  • love it

  • It was ironic how Big Boss created FOXHOUND as product of his revenge against Zero and the Unit FOX, and later, this organization turned into some kind of CIA or INTERPOL for the people who believed in equality and justice facing criminals and terrorists.

  • In fact, Big Boss respected the will of others (what it includes cops or criminals,) without being a psychopath who likes to play with the integrity of innocent or guilty people. I’m glad that Kojima didn’t depict Big Boss as a vindictive person.

  • This song is so damn wonderful.

  • The ending conversation with Ocelot sends chills down my spine. I love how Gene was able to pull something that suprised even Ocelot, though.

  • Ocelot. The most talkative damn man in the entirety of MGS. He's the only one to talk after (almost) every credits sequence!

  • song reminds me of titanic

  • @Isle0fRed agread

  • tha song is called calling to the night espa espa espa agh your name is hard to type D: but there

  • TO BE... OR NOT TO BE... FIGHTING HERE

  • It's in THE CREDITS

  • Name of the Song please ????

  • Natasha Farrow-Calling to the night

  • the man Ocelot is talking to at the end is most likely Majot Zero.

  • Major*

  • this song is beast

  • Rat Pt 01 = rat patrol 1 = PatR10t

  • WOW! All this time i thought that when ocelot says: Yes, Big Boss so that we can become The Patriots he was talking to Big Boss. But no he talks to Major Zero! Phew Big Boss isnt a bad guy :)

  • Here's the conversation about Ocelot and Major Zero Einstein.

Gene: "Tell me something, though... You couldn't possibly

have obtained the data on your own, could you? There must be someone

backing you. Who is it? Never mind...I've got a fairly good idea who it

is. The man with the same codename as Null."

  • Isn't Null the codename Gray Fox had before?

  • Null is the code name for Gray Fox when he was still a kid... somewhere in his late teens I think

  • Next time you play video games, PAY ATTENTION.

  • Well are you hard headed cause if your talking about major tom you don't need to bring gray fox into this even if hes called null as a teen. I glad you find them having the same code name fascinating, but it don't change the story.

  • No, YOU are hard headed. Gene told Ocelot that Major Zero was the man with the same codename as Null.

  • The man with the same codename as Null... isn't "Null" the German word for "Zero" or something?

  • Yes, precisely, "Null" is German for "Zero" meaning that Major Zero was the conspirator behind Metal Gear Solid 3, Portable Ops, and thusly, the main antagonist for the entire series...

  • Bingo, i think u r right, i think b boss will later find out about this and hate zero even more.

  • What are you talking about? Big Boss already knew about all of it. It's explained in MGS4.

  • he didnt find out until the les enfants terribles project i think

  • so basically the bad guy out of all of this is, Major Zero, am i right? then whos the good guy then?

  • The bad guy for MGS3 and MGS: PO is the CIA Director, the bad guy for the rest of the series are Major Zero and his AI's. Big Boss has been the good guy in each game in the whole series, Solid Snake meanwhile has been doing Zero's dirty work in getting rid those who opposed him up until the last act of MGS4, and even then he was doing it unwittingly, courtesy of Naomi. Isn't it sad?

  • So, in other words...

Solid Snake was the bad guy all this time...

And Big Boss, was the good guy

  • You could look at it like that, but i don't see Solid Snake as a bad guy. He was "manipulated" all the time, so he can't help it in my opinion.

  • Man seriously the MGS storyline is making my head explode...but Solid Snake wasnt always doing the wrong things...in MG and MGS2 he was doing the wrong thing...but in Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear was going to attack the US...so it was a good thing that Snake stopped it...or just killed everyone with FoxDie so they could retreive Big Boss's body... but in Metal Gear Solid 2 he was doing the right thing by killing arsenal right...please help me

  • @brendude95

Snake was always just following orders in MG, MG2 and MGS. After that he fights the prospect of nuclear warfare/disaster. It wasn't so much doing something bad as just doing his mission.

  • ahh i see...confusing but yes

  • Comment removed

  • @ColonelHakha you're right, but you forgot one thing, solid wasnt knowing that big boss was a good guy. he was made to believe that big boss was the bad guy adn this was the reason he did zero's dirty work unknowingly

  • @anuj8888 True, and Big Boss' motives as he stated them at the time weren't good either. But at the end of MGS4's retcons that's how it ended up looking.

  • @ColonelHakha Big boss was like darth vader. starwars focused on vader being good, to falling to the dark side even though he thought he was doing the right thing to eventually redeeming himself. same with big boss, all the MGS games revolve around him. big boss was made out to be a bad guy by the bad guys and peace walker explains how he knew he was going to be hunted. i just wish they would have more info on the Les esfants terrible project in between MGS:PO and PW

  • @tacokaleem I wouldn't compare him to Darth Vader, Anakin was genuinely tempted to the dark side and ended up a villain fighting the good guys. Big Boss wasn't good, in MG and MG2 but he was fighting people just as or more evil then him.

  • @tacokaleem big boss was not like darth vader at all 'cause he wasnt evil. The patriots were lying to the people.

  • Ar first, but considering his admiration for The Boss since Post-Snake Eater, that is no longer the case, since Peace Walker retconned it to Hot Coldman plotted Snake Eater, but Zero being the "true antagonist" stands.

  • Anyway he talks to big boss or major zero cause i finished 4 and that would make things link up with out me having to play those nes games.

  • Iilwjcanc i was just guessing everyone has finished the series by now my bad. I promise no spoilers like how snake was a rodeo clown in the middle east lol. Seriously though i like how they set up the cloning story in this game even though i get angry when people get confused and think that they playing as S. snake in mgs3 instead of big boss. If you dont believe me look at how many tributes to solid snake are on youtube, and have mgs 3 and portable ops game play and scenes...

  • Also, Major Zero being the man with the same codename as Null is not a major spoiler either. It's obvious that he is the guy Ocelot talks to at the end of the game. Null means zero or nothing.

  • Ok i don't know why you keep relating major zero to gray fox, cause at the end of this he is in no condition to be talking to anyone.

  • Are you an idiot or are you just pretending? Major Zero is "the man with same codename as Null." That's what Gene called him when he was talking to Ocelot earlier the game. Zero is not Null but he has the same codename. Null=Zero. At the end of the game Ocelot is talking to Major Zero on the phone.

SHEESH, you are so slow. Pay attention when you read and when you play games.

  • "liquid, solidus, and solid snake are born from EVA."

    is a spoiler

  • Very funny. Ocelot was talking to Zero aka the Man with the same codename as Null. Null means Zero.

As for EVA, she's a secret recruitable character. You have to do a lot of stuff in order to recruit her but it doesn't matter since it's not canon. EVA meets Big Boss again in Hanoi, not Colombia.

  • Talking Null? isn't that gray foxs code name in this game?

  • Yes, that's Gray Fox's codename in this game. He was a teenager in 1970. Elisa says he got the codename because he's "a lost number".

  • @PrisonBreakguy1987 Or you can enter a password for her more faster thats what i did.

  • He was talking to liquid not zero in the phone call. that why he knew about the geneone soldiers (liquid's army in the next game).

  • liquid isnt born til 1972 n00b :P

  • right i did skip over does nes games. thats what happens when you never get to play em lol, but metal gear solid happens around 1998 way after liquid, solidus, and solid snake are born from EVA.

  • PS i have NOT played metal gear solid 4 so no more spoilers (like the EVA one) please

no spoilers should be written about 4 in a discussion about an old game, especially not without a warning

  • Big Boss meeting EVA again in Hanoi is not a major spoiler.

  • Actually Metal Gear Solid is set in 2005. The game was released in 1998 but takes place in 2005.

  • besides... liquid isnt the bad guy in the next game, you're missing the MSX ones. Big Boss is the next bad guy

  • metal gear solid on the ps1 was set in 2005, metal gear solid 2 in 2007/9 and metal gear solid 3 was set in 1964. its a prequel, solid and liquid arent even in it. its about their clone father, Big Boss (everyone gets confused because he's exactly the same as solid snake hence clone (i think they should have made him a little different personally, after all solidus solid and liquid arent identical - different hair colour and voices)

portable ops is in 1970 and is another prequel about big boss

  • AWesome song i love it ^.^

  • EVA? Did I miss something? I don't remember seeing or hearing her in this game.

  • I bet nobody thought it was Zero that Ocelot was talking to in this clip.

  • u fucking asshole, why would u kill the 4th game for everyone like that?

  • i love this song

  • who could have thought that the "High Officer"'s voice in the credits would be voicing the old Big Boss in MGS4,huh?he also played The Fury

  • mgs3 song was... well a lot better

  • Beautiful song, thanks for uploading this. 5 stars + favorited.

  • I like this song.

  • same i listen to it on my ipod in MGS4

  • do you know the name of the song that plays after calling to the nigh is over?

  • This storyline is so confusing can someone explain

  • i wonder if The Boss was never born, then what would happen?

  • the patriots = Big Boss, para-medic, sigint (AkA Darpa Cheif in MGS1) Major Zero, Eva and Ocelot.

Big Boss joined the patriots to bring the boss' dream to life, he didn't like what Zero did so he left, and made outer haven as a continue on what he believed in, later on para-medic and sigint got killed, left members of the patriots where then only Eva, Ocelot and Major Zero.later on, in outer haven, Big Boss went on and developed the very first metal gear, Metal Gear D, from granins blue print

  • Big boss was a aswell but he didnt like wat Zero was trying to do so he split from the patriot and formed outer heaven

  • So was Big Boss, asshole.

  • no, zero was!!!

  • *Sigh*

    The Patriots are.. *SPOILERS*

Zero, Ocelot, Big Boss, EVA, Sigint and Para-Medic

  • awesome ending and song.

  • I understand almost all of the MG'Saga Storyline... But, I stiil do not know...

WHY DID BIG BOSS JOIN THE PATRIOTS?!

  • to bring The Boss's dream to life

  • It was from the honour of The Boss. The Boss was Big Boss's mentor. Also at the beginning Zero and Big Boss were good friends.

  • If Big Boss became a patriot, why did he try and bring down the west in Zanzibar and Outer Heaven?

If ocelot became a patriot why does he seem to do all the dirty work?

Also, at the end of MGS2, Solid Snake and Otacon get the list of all the Patriots and they were all dead for 100 years and one of them was Philanthropy's "biggest contributer"

  • the 100 years thing is probably because it was a list of philosophers.

  • he wasn't bringing the west down he was treying to bring down Zero and Ocelot did all the dirty work cause every one else was dead

  • what funny that when first play the MG series i didnt know who the main bad guy was and it was ocelot from the begining

  • wrong yes Ocelot was the final boss fight but it was Major Zero and the patriots system

  • campbell is a patriot. i think he, big boss, ocelot, and the other 9 are the patriots.

  • It would explain the title of the next game where they are all the "guns" of the patriots.

  • This is just me but I think they should remake the first two Metal Gear games so we could play as Solid Snake and re-live the epic battle with Big Boss but in 3-D (even thouh all you did was light him on fire but it was still cool)

  • I thought sokolov was killed in snake eater?

  • turns out he actually survived Volgin's assault

but the story doesn't explain how

  • I don't understand the end were roy campbell is sitting in the hospital with that paper or document can some one please explain.

  • If Big Boss did become a Patriot, we may see him in MGS4.

  • Big Boss is killed by Solid Snake at the end of Metal Gear 2.

  • But his mind of could have been digitized like the others. It'd make for an interesting Codec calls.

  • Snatcher Boss?

  • *SPOILER*

And so are the rest of the Patriots. But they seem to be the center of the next game.

  • So Ocelot had started their gene project to bring about the "true" patriots into play. So that was how solid snake was born.

  • Too bad the ending didn't have the fanfare that plays at the end of Snake Eater.

  • haha yea that ended the little ending conversation in Snake Eater so perfectly

  • Null is Gray fox or Grey fox how ever u spell grey/gray nowaddays Big boss dead (maybe its kojima who knows) liquids living in ocelot (weird) and army's heaven turns into Outer heaven

  • Out Heaven and Armys heaven are diffrent. As Big Boss said Gene was a dictator and just wanted everything for himself. But Big Boss wanted to creat a world for the soliders, not make have the soliders keep the world for him. Plus who dosnt know Null is Gray Fox just wondering?

  • Null is Gray fox or Grey fox how ever u spell grey/gray nowaddays Big boss dead (maybe its kojima who knows) liquids living in ocelot (weird) and army's heaven turns into Outer heaven

  • Null is Gray fox or Grey fox how ever u spell grey/gray nowaddays Big boss dead (maybe its kojima who knows) liquids living in ocelot (weird) and army's heaven turns into Outer heaven

  • There needs to be one more prequal.

  • damnit MGSPO it had such a good story but playing it on psp sucked ass. it needed the true mgs area by area style

  • i agree

  • i agree

  • HOW R U SU0RE ITS MAJOR ZERO

  • ocelot mentions it is a man with the same codename as null (grey fox) null is german for zero, therefore major zero, fox was called null instead of zero because he was raised in some land (i forget) that had german as its native language, hope this helps

  • Sorry to say, but that is not the reason he was called "Null". Null is a lost number, which is why he was given the name - in regards to his perfect soldier project number.

You are confusing it with his real name "Frank Jaeger" for his ability to speak German, thus the reason for his German name.

Also Roy Campbell, who achieved the codename "Chicken Fox", doesn't count as having the code-name "Fox" becaus he was not an active field agent

  • In SONS OF LIBERTY,Liquid says to Snake:"Our materials are vintage brother!Big Boss was in his late fifties when the created us..."

That means that Big Boss's age was between 55 to 60 when the Les enfants terrible project was made in 1972.

But it doesn't make sense...During SNAKE EATER(8 years before this project) we see a 30 to 40 year old Big Boss.

  • they probably didnt plan on making a prequel or going that in depth in the backstory

  • i agree i thought i was the only one who caught that

but maybe kojima was aware of that

so i ignored it and proceeded to resume the story as it goes now

  • sorry [he wasnt aware]

  • one thing I am curious is about when he was Null he held a machine gun but when he was gray fox,he had no scorpion, just the blade

  • remember the did some experiments on him , after snake defeated him on metal gear 2 (msx2)

  • hmmm Roy Campbal maybe. some say Zero but idts. I wana say Cunningham but to say he didnt die would piss me off. Also it may be Sokolov cuz i dont think he died but this is unlikly

  • at the end of mgs4 old snake becomes some kind of bog boss with outher heaven stuff and the history repeats again and again...

  • proof or it never happend. and bog?

  • Null is Gray Fox. Duh. I'm pretty sure Null says his name is Frank Jeager in the middle of the game.

  • yes he does so?

  • Big Boss actualy says it. And if you knew anything about Metal Gear thats proof Null is Gray Fox. Play some MGS1

  • ur correct that Null is gray fox but when he was younger.

  • yes and ocelot its the son of the boss

  • ocelot?? sone of big boss naked snake?? or the women?

  • the women of course........

  • the boss-the woman

  • yep he's the man

  • I think the guy on the other line is the guy from MG3 who said that we could use a spy unit like FOX in the army. he said something about having soldiers that combine the skills of an agent and a spy. That's how i remember it, and i assume that maybe it was him on the other line. Of course assumptions make ppl look stupid so I will just be another idiot.

  • there was something about genome

  • great - who do you think is on the other line?... hope we find out in MGS4.

  • It's Major Zero... ''the one with the same code name as Null''

  • i hope they neva make this into a movie.. bekause they done fucked up so many movies based on games.. ill just hate for metal gear 2 be one of them

  • Hmm... I wonder who Revolver Ocelot was calling?

  • I doubt even Hideo Kojima knows the answer to that. Hahaha.

  • Yep. After all, Solidus doesn't exist at this point in time. And ol' Shalashaska has always been a shadowy sort. We can never assume that we've learned everything there is to learn about him... especially since he's Liquid Ocelot now.

  • You are right, but he also says that the person he is talking to has the same code name as null(Frank Jaeger, Gray Fox), and Major Zero from MGS3 fits the time and the description, as zero and null are the same thing

  • Could be. You may be onto something there. He did start FOX, after all...

  • I think Big Boss became a patriot after this game, but was captured during a mission by Roy Cambell and put into a coma by the USA and the Les Enfants Terribe project followed with Big boss posting Cambell to guard his son Solid Snake, and then ultimately challenged the US in Outer Heaven.

  • True, but don't forget, he also spent a while as the founder and original commander of the FOXHOUND unit.

  • Are you sure Zero and Null are the same? Zero was like 40+ years old in MG3 and this occurs after the Shagohod, Virtuous Mission etc.

And on top of that, Snake says he remembers a child soldier in mozambique(idk how its spelled). That would mean that Snake was old enough to be in the military, which would mean Zero is much younger, which he's not..

  • Null is Frank Jaeger ( i dont care if i spell wrong ) who is Gray Fox who is not Zero.

  • what is portable ops about

  • snake/big boss's path towards outerheaven.

  • a little.. but this one owns for sure. i don't like that song.

  • does this song remind anyone of the Celine Dion song from Titanic?

  • No. Too jazzy.

  • i got to agree wit morris this has a great story and i cant wait till the fan movies and the real movies come out. and i also love the games i love portable ops though espicially cause then i can have snake with me all the time :-)

  • i cant really say how much of a fan i am of the series, its just extremley beatifull, if this entire series was brought to filming and done right, omg, millions upon millions would be made, such a great story with beatiful music such as this one "Calling to the night" Hideo Kojima, is just an incredible man for having an imagination as this and combining it with historical events

  • Indeed. I love this song - I like it a lot better than "Snake Eater." No real reason - I just like the melody better. Metal Gear has always had strong music, and "Calling to the Night" and "Snake Eater" fit very well with the life story - the great tragedy - of the Big Boss.

I only hope that EVA tells Solid Snake everything. He still doesn't realize how much he doesn't know about Big Boss. How similar their lives were.

  • The only metal gear song I didn't like was "Can't Say Goodbye To Yesterday" from MGS2. Dunno why, it just didnt have the same emotion this does and "The Best Is Yet Come".

And yeah snakes gotta learn about Big Boss AND what happed with The Boss and such!

  • I cleared MGS1 about 10 times on Extreme and MGS3 twice on EU-Extreme - not that I'm showing off! :)

  • Cleared MPO once or twice.

Cleared MGS3 60 ish times, VE, E, Normal mainly but once or twice on European Extreme. I'm not boosting or anything, just y'all seem to be ranting out how you did, so I thought I'd join you guys :)

  • nice game. had cleared it about 5times and enjoyed using the shotgun against soldiers when bored. hehe. got 99 level medic and tech and a dozen mk22. i guess this will make a good movie, don't u think?

  • I cleard it 2 times and cleard mgs3 atleast

    15 times and mgs2 tanker=30 plant=10 times

mgs1 2 times and twinsnake atleast 6 times.

And mgs2 tanker on 17min. So beat that!

  • wow! really?! u r so good! ASSWIPE!!!

  • 素晴らしい歌だ! ^^

  • does anybody know all the codenames/ratings u get after finishing the game?

  • No, but I think you can find them on Gamespot
