I think what Wade was getting at was that he had already escaped twice from prison, and the very end when he whistles his horse gives the viewer the impression of he is simply going to escape again. He just wanted to honour the man, that got him on the 3-10 to yuma....even if the train did run late.

7/10. Its a good movie, i recommend it to anyone who just wants to sit down and not have to think too much. There is a few cheesy scenes but its still worth a watch.
