hey i have a hujeta gar and i made a video of it! please check it out! type in on youtube search FishLover563 55 gallon aquarium and click on the top. thanks!
I agree with Tinnesen89, These fish thrive in groups. They would of been better off in a ratio of x2 needle and x2 hujeta (or x4; odd numbers might single a fish out of the group). Especially with your tank setup, there really isnt any decent hide spots so the vulnerability factor is high. This couple probably felt "forced" to stick together, but im sure theyd prefer and feel more comfortable with fish of their own kind. No chance of them mating, Better odds of one jacking off in the corner.
the hujeta is scoal fish, it likes to have others around and the needlenose kinda looks like him....my hujetas does it to with the arowana and there aint no arowana pikes, to put it that way x)
nah they're just buddies. it's not strange for different fish to school together if they're sort of similar. all sorts of catfish and gars/barracudas/pikes come to mind.
@joespence23 even if they were attempting to bread, it wouldn't have worked, they are both very different species of fish from very different regions. hijetas are characins while needlenoses are needlefish.
