If you were truly a fan of hers then it seems that you'd be sad about her passing PERIOD rather than being fixated on what she died of. Is it that important to you what she died from? If so, to be technically correct, she didn't die of AIDS, by rather from pneumonia due to complications of AIDS. While the difference between the two doesn't make me feel any better, I hope that it soothes you.
