  • mozchandeb,

    Thank for the interesting information.

    Cheers.

  • Hi,

Thanks so much for this wonderful video.

What a great pity we cannot hear his voice. Do you know his age in this?

    Once again, thankyou.

    Cheers.

  • @balletnut - amazing to see the painter at work - and we just have to get that lip reading under way! cheers!

  • @balletnut The boy in the film is Claude "Coco" Renoir, born in 1901. If he's roughly 12 here (although its hard to say), that would make Renoir 71.

  • It is hard to believe that I'm watching one of my favorite painters working. Look at his hands! This man was a GENIUS!

  • hi wilmotofrochester - yes, it's like real time travel.

  • Merci pour ce document!

  • RAMLIA1 - Pas du tout

  • You need a lip reader to find out what they were saying, great footage.

  • @mgb104 - i'd love to use that technique with this a lot of other film i've uploaded, such as that of la goulue and of sarah bernhardt. cheers

  • Like others I'm astounded that they had the technology to film a 19th century artist at work. Artists were the celebrities of the day. Mr. Renoir looks so distinguished, but how times change. Nobody wears that much facial hair these days. Fascinating! Thank you, wherever you found this, it's a treasure!

  • hi IrisMG - i was amazed the fil existed - as does that of monet, rodin and dega that i've uploaded. glad you like it - it's like stepping back in time in a way you never imagined you'd be able to do. cheers

  • hi fxdollars9000 - i was amazed that all this film existed - of degas, monet, rodin and degas - like getting into a time machine! and so interesting seeing them work with a brush and paint - you see something of their technique

  • hi fxdollars9000 - yes, it's amazing to see an artist at work who you've only read about and who has passed into artistic legend - like seeing film of leonardo da vinci painting 'the last supper' - well, not quite, but!

  • hi fxdollars9000 - good to hear - actually most people have a movie making program loaded in their computers (and don't realise it) as part of any pre-Windows 7 operating system - it's called 'Windows Live Movie Maker' and is found in 'my programs'. i've used it a lot and it makes nice videos. i think with photographing paintings, colours are resolved and harmonised so they loose the impact of the potential edginess of the differences and contrasts on a canvass, don't you think?

  • Wonderful film which shows severe rheumatoid arthritis of hands. How did he do it?

  • hi dikdok3426 - and as you say the rheumatoid arthritis is so severe - i had a friend with similar arthritis and he managed to do most things with surprising dexterity - amazing how we adapt to hardship. cheers

  • hi fxdollars9000 - i'm not keen on the monsters either - i get their point but am not fond of gazing at them for long. i was in madrid in 2003 for a few months and made a lot of trips to the prado museum - there are some great great Goyas there - so i know what you mean about seeing things in person. and yes some really are moving towards the abstract - just wonder how he would have painted if he were alive today. BTW my first degree was in fine art and the love has stuck! cheers, be in touch

  • hi fxdollars9000 - good to hear back from you. your reasons are why i used to upload stuff without music so i understand what you are saying perfectly. i like your idea of a silent Goya/Renoir/Manet epic. be in touch, cheers again, nick

  • hi fxdollars9000 - i did some of these without music and people complained bitterly - can't win. you could watch and turn the sound down/off? cheers from Sydney

  • more posing than painting there i think but wonderful all the same.

  • hi medjfootball - yes, i think back then people weren't so used to the new technology of motion picture filming and therefore to posing naturally in front of it - and they had the idea of it being for posterity and that skewed things too. cheers from sydney

  • Inspiring!!!

  • hi MrNorm4075 - extraordinary to be able to see renoir at work!

  • This is the first time I am seeing Renoir (my favourite impressionist painter) footage. Thank you for sharing this clip.

  • hi indiavideo - yes, it's amazing that film of the great impressionist painter exists - did you see the footage i uploaded of monet, degas and rodin? cheers

  • Thank you, its so wonderful such a clip existed.

  • hi carrotpopify1 - yes amazing it exists - i studied the impressionists in my first degree, never imagining such film existed!

  • Thank you so much for this amazing film!

  • hi dearmalika - i'm glad you like it - i've also posted film of auguste rodin, edgar degas and claude monet. hope you like these as well!
