  • What an inspirational design. I wonder how well the magnus effect would work on a vertical axis wind turbine.

  • I've always felt that the big or even giant wind turbines with blades the size of a 747 just didn't look right. Sure, they create a lot of electricity, but are long, skinny albeit huge blades the best way to capture the wind's potential? The blades are thin at the tips and get thicker near the axis. For maximum leverage, it should be just the other way around. The blades then could be made smaller but could do the same amount of work.

    I'm thinking give the spiral blades magnetic bearings and you're good to go.
