Emma, there is more ignorance. Actually the parts build for your car were researched and designed on a race car so don't start me there. As for chasers, I can't speak for all of them, but all my footage and photos of the storm and/or damage is sent for observation. No two storms are the same and they need all the info they can get to help improve warning time.

The vibe on this vid and its discription is not cool. I wish it would be explained and changed immediately. I was fooled like many others keep the vibe and integrity positive by not giving a word by word explanation as to why the car flipped. Heck, I lost count of all the Xterra's I saw between your and Reed's crew! If I would have been told that Xterra's were going to be a popular chase vehicle, I would have kept my '01! LOL Glad you are OK, Andy. As usual, some wicked footage!

BTW, for the information of the nay sayers, the Xterra is a wide stance SUV which is nice and stable. I have had mine on some extreme off camber situations without worry of flipping. Not to mention you cannot really beat these stock!

I grew up in Tornado Alley and was in the bad one 1979. I do not understand people who actually don't respect nature. These are nothing to dare with. I have seen them pick up entire trains and 18 wheelers like they were MATCHES......It is not worth the risk. Glad your ok!

@n8tfd Andy is no "jokester;" he's been at this for a long time. Unfortunately the video's description is probably not descriptive enough. Here is what Andy, the driver of this vehicle, said via Twitter: "The accident WAS NOT due to the tornado my steering jammed up forcing me sideways while in reverse hit a ditch incline and it went over. Yes i am fine." While I understand you being quick to jump to your conclusion, that was not the case here.

I think that you storm chaser guys are, frankly, insane and have a death wish.

One day you will get too close, even though you are 'experienced' and 'a professional', and we will see video recovered from your mangled vehicle as you realized you tempted fate for the last time.

It's educational to watch the videos for certain, but driving to within 100 meters of an EF-3+ is just unwise in the extreme.

All I have learned is that I should head the other direction when I see this.

@Knepperify1 Could be or maybe it's just the thrill. Ever been on a rollercoaster? Things can happen there as well. BTW, you might want to rethink your term "storm chaser" because it seems rather ambiguous to me. Many of these chasers have donated tons of data to be analyzed to adhere to timely warnings to save your butt. Yeh, scientists do "insane" things, but much of the outcome is very rewarding. Kinda harsh to assume one's fate.

Clearly these guys, as shown in this video, are chasing storms, specifically tornadoes, in their vehicles.

Words mean things. Refer to things what they are, and these guys are chasing storms to cheat death.

It's in their voices.

Most of the "confirmed tornado" reports you hear from your local news and weather services come from ground reports -- from these storm chasers. Maybe you should delve in cognition before making assumptions that these people are out to cheat death. You "cheat" death every day, yourself.

SUV/High center of gravity + High Winds = easy to flip...be careful and know your vehicles and how the weather affects them! I highly dislike how today it is who can get the closest shots of a tornado...without being killed. I'd rather footage from 2 miles away and an unharmed chaser, than super up close footage and a dead chaser.

What he did was very inconsiderate and amateur, as far as leaving the car. I've met Andy multiple times. I like his work. Accident or not. This generated bad press.
