  • Hi,

Can we use IR with active playing? Not for recording or mixing

  • @aysat No you can only use the impulse inside your recording software. You don't have to record, you could just arm a track for recording and monitor the signal.

  • @fearcomplexmusic thank you for your reply.

  • which is supposed to do with the link? I do with these texts?

  • any tutorials you would recommend for mixing this way? excellent mix

  • @thevisi0naryy Thanks! I'm currently working on an EP and will be uploading some "making off" episodes.

  • @fearcomplexmusic Any quick important tips or reccomendations you would give to getting a song to sound like this?

  • @thevisi0naryy Use lots of room mics, with them muted the track is dry and flat sounding. The room mics are very important for 'vibe' and creating that sense of movement, making the track breathe.

Then there's the bass, rather than going for note clarity I eq'd most of the mids out so it's mostly just low end humming throughout the track, like a continuous drone. This again gives s a smooth movement feel.

If you get the bass and drums down dealing with guitars becomes a lot easier.

  • @fearcomplexmusic okay that makes sense, do you do multiple guitar layers? Do you using any typing of mixing effects on guitars or just standard mixing?

  • @thevisi0naryy Yeah I usually do 4 guitar tracks. 2 hard panned at 100% L&R and another 2 around 80% L&R. For effects, aside from EQ I'll sometimes use PSP Mixsaturator. I have a video on my channel showing how I use that.

  • good lord!!! this is so incredibly good

  • @slitherlock Good to hear!

  • what impulse plug in? and where can I get it for free?

  • @ChrisLovesDRUMS It's a Redwire impulse. They're not free. On my channel I have another clip of the same track and Amplitube settings, but with free "guitarhack" impulses.

  • I tried that preset and it sounded horrible /watch?v=nDTkvjdgkog (in the video response too)

I didnt change anything, just loaded the preset and recorded. What should i do differently to get it sounding like in this video?

  • @0sk4ri Have you got enough guitar signal going in to the interface? Check the level meter at the bottom, set it so it's almost going in the red.

  • sounds good, snare sounds very acceptable

  • awesome man! do have any idea where you can get this stuff for mac?

  • Just a quick question, how do you save the preset to an outside folder, I made a sound I liked and it only saves it to the Program files/IK/Amplitube/presets. However the custom folder is only visible within amplitube... I just want to save the preset on my external so if my computer craps out I will have it saved. HELP PLEASE

  • @TonyTwoToes6669 You can't access the folder that amplitube saves the preset? All mine are available in user/mydocuments/ikmultimedia/amplitube3/presets

  • @fearcomplexmusic I figured out why. But for some reason they were in a temp folder and didn't show it whatsoever. After I found that out was able to just save them out on my external and all that!

  • sickk dude! for amplitube, do you need one of their interfaces to use it, or can you use a DI input on an mbox?

  • @imxron Yeah man the mbox will work, you don't need their interface.

  • What audio interface are you using? My amplitube lags like shit, or sounds like shit, i plugged my guitar straight to stock computer's soundcard. I do not know which interface i should get...

  • @pahaahv Try downloading the Asio4all drivers and try using those. Or buy a low-latency soundcard. The Audiophile 24/96 is a reasonably cheap card and will run at 6ms - which is as "laggy" as you would ever want it!

Make sure that you aren't using Multimedia or Direct-X drivers for your card.

Pre-amping the guitar signal before the soundcard will help S/N ratio. I use a Focusrite compressor to bring the signal to line-level.

  • Ampeg review???:D plz :D

  • Damn man, didn't know you could get such good tones out of Aplitube. Subbing.

  • Hi, i downloaded and installed your amplitube preset, but all i had is a creepy mosquito-like tone. Now, i certainly didn't expect to have your same tone, but i assure you your preset sounds really unusable. I make some mistakes?

  • @nicottox I think that your cabinet is on bypass!

Load the preset, klick CAB A and uncheck "Bypass". Maybe that will help :)

  • what's your opinion with Superior Drummer vs. Steven Slate? what would you say are the weak points with either one?

  • Hello when i try to open this preset with amplitube it says that the preset doesn't fill with the amplitube 3 parameters... so i cannot load this preset properly... what should i do?

  • dude i have a question, you are giving that link with codes but how do i create a preset with that codes so i can use in amplitube?

  • @fodassenaosei Hey right click the link and save as. It will download mesa2.at3p --- Put that file in your amplitube 3 presets folder. You can then load it like any other preset within Amplitube. Do a windows search for amplitube if you can't find the folder. Mine is in my documents.

  • Great sound! By the way, i LOVE the toms in this track. I use metal foundry and the slate stuff also. But how the hell did you get such great greasy toms? Any tip? A preset you might share? ; )

Anyway great video, i love your stuff man!

  • @vickiboi Thanks for the comment! The toms are from the 'metal' preset in metal foundry. No further processing was done to them. If there's space in your mix they'll pop out.

  • @vickiboi I've found that adding ezmix on top can sound pretty amazing as well.

  • I like this tone. I had found mesa boogie tone which appropriate to amplitube 3. The synchronization rate is over 80~90%. Thank you!!!

  • song name ?

    its holy shit great

  • Man thats a sick growl, I want to learn to growl like that.

  • how do you connect your guitar to the computer?

  • Sounds kinda like Machine head

  • that was fucking sweet

  • What guitar and pickup combination are you using? Any mastering on the overall track prior to rendering?

  • @vikingguitar I use an ESP Eclipse, EMG 81 pickup. Yep some light EQ on the final mix, a low shelf boost around 120hz and hi shelf at 10khz.

  • How do you do download that preset?

All I get is a bunch of fucking codes and shit =D

  • 7-string guitar I guess :)

  • What's up with the Jurassic Park T-Rex roar?

  • Great Work Guy !

    Greetings from Switzerland

  • intro sfx sounds like switching on a vacuum cleaner

  • Can you clarify which "Redwire Mesa cab impulse" you used?

  • I liked the way you made your guitar sound like t-Rex from jurrasic park-you are a genius ...do a velociraptor next

  • @tyrer50 That IS a clip from Jurassic Park, genius.

  • @fearcomplexmusic (or anyone else for the matter) how do you go about tweaking the sound? I'd like to record the "clean guitar", then run amplitube online, "from the mixing software", if you know what I mean, so I can keep modifying settings while hearing the complete mix. I can't do this with audacity - I have to record a clean track, apply the "amplitube effect", then undo, tweak settings, re-apply the amplitube effect, etc, it's just sooo painfully slow. Is there any free software to do this?

  • haha i like the idea that you put Jurassic Park's Growl it was nice!

  • can you please make a tutorial video showing how the hell you get that AWESOME sound? :)

  • how do you make this sound so good ? I dont know but I tried to use it through toneport, the sound is muddy completely not selective and in general it sounds like shit? Maybe I miss something ?

  • Got Amplitube 3 because of this clip. Can't get decent metal sound out of my Gearbox.

  • It would be awsome if you posted a vid where you show us how you prosses the guitarsound.. have tryed getting the same sound ass you, using amplitube 3 and guitarhacks inpulses.. but my sound is not even close!! Please make a vid and show us how you do it!! :)

  • WOW! AWESOME!

dude, i downloaded GuitarHacksImpulses.rar and didn't found any mesa cab impulse... what's the file name please :)

  • Preamp shit , not for jamming , just for recording. i need that sound for jamming not for mastering!

  • How do you use the dropbox link? Where do I paste it?

  • This is seriously one of the most professional mixes I have EVER heard!

    10/10

  • Were Did you Get that T-rex sounds?

  • This shits all over Line 6

  • Absolutely awesome sound! Loved it.

  • Which mesa cab impulses did you use? i got the Redwire bigbox impulse pack, and there's a ton of different microphones and frequencies to choose from.

  • @fearcomplex:

Great mix dude, did you quad track those guitars ?

  • @szyszkadistortion Thanks man, I think I just did dual track on this. Not certain but I'm just dual tracking these days anyway.

  • Awesome bro!!. Could you tell me what bass in Trilian you use. Thanks .

  • @joeyxl3456 Hey yeah I use the hardcore bass

  • @fearcomplexmusic Thank you for that answer, i appreciate it cheers :)

  • superior drummer and amplitube 3, exactly what i use, no better combination!

  • Is there a free download on this software?

  • hey i'm commenting for the ones who can not have a powerful gain. you should use a booster before u send ur guitar signal to the interface. follow my instruction. guitar ->a booster(it should keep the clean sound u can use a equalizer or a compressor or a processor pedal like pod in bypass mode.)->sound interface.. this is gear setup.

now open Amplitube and use this preset.

check the input and out put level.

the more u increase input level the more gain u will have.

  • @morfoo but before start just check ur dry sound turning ur mix button on ur sound interface. there should not be a dirty sound. if there is, just decrease the volume on ur pedal. this is it.

  • thats awesome man, proof that you can get amazing tones from this if you know what your doing :)

  • i love the Jurassic park thing going on in the back ground

  • damn the guitar sounds so nice,do you have any advice on how to make mine sound as tasty?

  • @GrowlingVocals think the most important thing to work on is the bass and drums. The other elements in the mix can change the guitar tone drastically. I've learned there's not much point in spending forever working on guitars in solo.. Better to settle on a decent tone and spend your time making it work in the mix. The end result will be better and that's all that matters. An amplitube guitar tone in a decent mix will beat a real mesa track thrown into a congested muddy mix every time!

  • @fearcomplexmusic hey thanks,this will help

  • @fearcomplexmusic Do you create the drum tracks from scratch, or do you use premade loops? Also, if you do create them, do you do so after or before you make the guitar part?

  • @fearcomplexmusic that's true about the rest of the mix but a REAL mesa with great micing will sounds amazing even on solo.

  • @fearcomplexmusic You are really right with this. I've found the same thing out. You have to leave acoustic space for everything in the mix. Putting in a good thick bass line will make the guitars seem heavier!

  • To get a good sound like this you need a high quality interface and you will have to dish out some dough for one.

  • @fearcomplexmusic How do you get that sound man!?!?! I have Amplitube 3, but i think it sounds like shit :S Maybe it´s my speakers or something. What do you do to get that sound?

  • that intro noise kind of sounds like the intro to Mastodons - Crusher Destroyer

  • @godlikecharacta im so glad someone mentioned that.

  • good way to get rid of shitty sound is if you have an OD pedal or TS pedal (like the real thing) use that before and make sure distortion level is at 0, put the tone up to smooth it out, and then output it in the input of your interface. you could always use the software TS but REAL PEdAL works best, that is how i achieve the sounds like this, so it doesnt sound muddy, especially the metal presets....oh and you goota have some decent speakers.

  • Hey do you turn off the bypass? cuz as soon as i turn it off it sounds alot better!

  • I have the amp, with el34's. I wish I could make it sound like that.

  • amplitube sounds like shit for me. using a toneport. tried eq's and shit but meh.

  • Whoa! That sounded like some Jeff Loomis shit! That was pretty heavy!

  • Could you do a simple tutorial on how to set up Reaper with any VST drum set and using a miditrack with it? Or maybe just inform me with a message.

  • Ugh, I can NEVER get amplitube to sound good. It always sounds like butt for me. Do you do a lot of EQing and Compressing?

  • @JulianOfViolence no compression on the guitars but usually do use eq. Depending on the impulse, you might need a lot.

  • @fearcomplexmusic

Gr I need Pod Farm so bad. Ha ha. I got Amplitube Metal to sound...all right, but still not exactly what I want.

  • @JulianOfViolence Amplitube 3 remastered the models from Amplitube Metal.

    So it's like

Amplitube 3 = Remastered Amplitube Metal + Remastered Amplitube 2 + Remasterd Amplitube Jimi Hendrix + new models

And of course, it sounds more realistic than Amplitube Metal.

BTW, I think Amplitube 3 is still the best amp sim on the market today.

  • @JulianOfViolence I agree, amplitube always sounds like shit, I think its amazing when I see vids like this, its so hard to make it sound good

  • @JulianOfViolence Late response to your question but as little EQ as possible. These amp sims don't sound the greatest when you go crazy with EQ, in my experience anyway. I'll maybe do a narrow cut at around 4khz to remove some of that harshness and a broader cut around 250hz if required. I also will do a lo pass filter starting as low as 9khz, tames the fizz!

  • Hey what interface do you use? I'm looking to upgrade from my Fast Track. I love the tone in this vid, I have the same program but I can't coax out a tone like that. Thanks

  • @Power2theFlyingV Hey I use an m-audio profire 2626

  • @fearcomplexmusic thats almost $500, im looking for something less expensive, for starters but still really good maybe having to use impulses..any ideas?

  • hey what interface do use? I'm looking to upgrade from my fast track, this track in this vid has a seriously gnarly tone.

  • WHAT THE F? IT SOUNDS DAMNNNNNNN GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! REALLY LOVE THE SOUND!!! PErghh!!

  • Could you please tell me ..in Redwire Mesa cab impulse ...you are useing 44.1Khz-16bit or other?and...you are chooseing Shure Sm57 or other??i am already bought Redwire impulse ..but i have no idea which one was great,,,can you recommnd me some?

  • @neo69hk 44k, 24bit, I mostly use the sm57. Try the cap edge at 1 inch

  • i have some question:

    1) what drum software is your most favorite? im quite a beginner and dont have a midi keyboard yet.

    2) which guitar amp simulator you recommend and what is your recording method? miking or direct?

    3) what DAW software you use?

i like your tutorial and your demos all sounds great! keep it up!

  • @sild123 1. Superior drummer 2, though I like the kicks from Steven Slate Drums more.

    2. Paid - Amplitube or Pod Farm, Free - TSE X30 or Legion

    3. I use Reaper mostly, sometimes cubase.

  • that was damn nice

  • Man i again have a couple of questions !

    1)You quadtracked again ? panned L R 100 each n L R 80 each ?

2)im wondering how to use other drums sounds in my superior instead of Dfh n all.

  • @rij666 I just dual tracked with this, 1 track 100%L and 1 100%R. I use drumagog to replace drums from superior with other samples. Works great.

  • Just to clarify the Redwire impulses are NOT free! They are however the best impulsed I've used and the Mesa pack in particular is well worth the $10 price tag.

  • And did you do any other processing to it?

  • @zakkrandydimshrd Nope, no processing to the guitars, just some compression on the drums and overall mix.

  • fearcomplex... if i were gay, I would give you my heart ;) ROCK ON

  • @BalkanDixie yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeea! :D

  • @BalkanDixie LOL BD, Amplitube 3 is some powerful shit!

  • @fearcomplexmusic hahahaha :D hey man, did you ever work with waves GTR 3, and what do you think about it???

  • @BalkanDixie I thought there were some decent clean tones to be got from it but it didn't seem up to the task for the heavier stuff. Very thin if I remember right. That said, I didn't give it a serious examination and have learned how to tweak these sims better since I used it so I'll probably check it out again sometime before final judgment!

  • Could you possibly email me those settings and the impule?

  • @zakkrandydimshrd There's a link to the patch in the description, the impulse can be got from redwirez.com or check out the free alternative I posted.

  • great as always :)

where can i find redwire mesa cab impulse?

  • @hobazzz Thanks, redwirez.com or check out the guitarhack ones!

  • hell yes, I've been looking for a good clip using this amp!

ty, keep on doin your shit, it sounds great :)

  • What snare is this of metal foundry ?

  • @Mendel1788 It's the 6.5x14" Ludwig Supraphonic.
