This version is just not as good as the original destination docklands live version. There's nothing like a biblical rain storm and fireworks to make it that bit more special.
when i visited france, i didnt notice that, but i must be honest - didnt ask everybody about age. Other thing is, that there is not much pure french-blood people left in France. There is plenty of people looking like they have some north-african blood in their veins. Its quite different in Paris, and probably other big cities (its like african city to me - half population black, other half definitely not pure white), a different in province (most of people white).
Everything begun in Swidnik. Those labourers rised their fists when the state increase the price for the meal in canteen belonging to a local factory. Thats the truth. And then everyone in province of Lublin joined to that movement, and then from the other cities.

@davewilson1969 did i sound like a mp3-leech kid who has no ears, hence he can't hear how crappy the audio quality on this youtube video is and can't afford cd's? Did i sound like a noob not knowing how to use simple freeware tools? And didn't i ask for a PRINTED medium in the first place? mr.davewilson...you really must think you're smart giving out such GREAT tipps. just stop spamming people's inbox with your tips for lame mp3-tools.
so good, why there was no ubicity in Holland during this event? Is that censur? In the NOS journal there was sad that there was a kind of fest, but no Jarre mentiont in this announcement. Why?
@happygregory1989 They do indeed, it's actually a known fact that most french people look years younger than the age they actually are, when JMJ was in his late 20s he looked 12 in my opinion.
It's just some electronic drum pads hidden behind some oil drums, but I doubt he's playing anything as the intro to this song is a preset sound called "Machine Run" from a Roland D50 synthesizer. You can play this sound indefinitely by holding down a single note on the synth, but I guess that wouldn't look quite as exciting when you're on stage giving a concert ;)
@oxygene65 For a start the loop that sounds like hammers on iron, that's a loop from the Roland D50. And then he plays some notes during the whole piece that sound... well... a bit off, but suddenly, during the solo, he plays EXACTLY right. Well, ok, maybe that's real. Still, the percussion part is really this loop I mentioned. One key to press, not several instruments to trigger or play. I don't make this up, I have that loop
@musician1971a I know, I was being sarcastic ! Its always frustrated me watching JMJ live, I've been to several of his concerts, and in some bits its very obvious he was miming. Its a shame because the concerts are so fantastic and the music so good, the miming is like putting a little black mark on them. That patch off the D50 is awesome :) Another patch I like is Bank 4 Program 6 on the Elka Synthex. I dont make this up, I have that patch !
@oxygene65 Lol, sorry. And I know what you mean... Do you own a Synthex?? I'm trying to make that laserharp sound in other instruments, but it's just never gonna be as good as that Elka sound.
@musician1971a heh heh, no worries mate. Yeah, I own a Synthex. I bought it about 10 years ago for £1600, hopefully worth a bit more than that today ! (not that I would sell it)
Have you looked online ? what synths do you have ? I think if you go onto some of the Jean Michel Jarre chat forums you will find that there people have made available their Jarre patches to download. I managed to get a few patches for my Yamaha AN1x which had a couple of reasonably convincing laser harp sounds.
@oxygene65 I mostly have softsynths, and quite a few of them. For synths I have Reason 5, Native Instruments Kontakt, Reaktor, Massive, Arturia Minimoog, Moog Modular, Prophet, Arp2600, and more. I should look on that forum I guess, maybe there are some patches :-)
@musician1971a nice collection. I've tried the moog modular and minimoog ones and thought they were great, and the korg legacy which is pretty impressive. Although I am plagued with midi latency problems with the soft synths, so rely on my hardware for 99% of my sounds. I've collected over the years an AN1x, JP8000, MS2000, DX100, VP330 Vocoder, SY55, Synthex, JV1080, XV5080, TG500, A-Station and S6000 sampler. Not that I ever get the time to do any music these days. Bah !
I can't help it, I must say this: Jean Michel, you are so cute in this video!

I've been there. I saw. I heard. I felt.
I remember I had mixed feelings about this concert.
From one side: the History and the Shipyard- the siplicity and austerity.
Fireworks and the electronic music I like: just the kitsch- one may say- from the other.
Just like Gothic and Baroque.
I knew he was a professional.
So was curious what he would do.
After the concert I knew he was genius.
In my opinion the most beautiful one in his career.
I was lucky to be there and experience.
