11|15|09 I just read an article in the Boston Globe about Sarah coming to the NEC [New England Conservatory] of music in Boston to study theory and solfege [voice] among other things music ! Instead of signing a record deal NOW , She's gonna learn/study!! You've got to admire that! Welcome to Boston Sarah! I"ll bet you will like it here and good luck!!!! STONY
She's dangerous! Heard her interview on NRP as I drove from the Bay Area toward Sacramento. So I'm doing the left hand on the wheel while I scribble the essentials on a piece of paper on the passenger's seat. VERY impressive!
Hey OLDCAKES....Same here. Heard her on NPR this afternoon and my ear perked up right away. Then heard the Tom Waits reference and bout hit the floor. What a combo!!! GOOD good good good stuff.
I accidentally heard her while scanning stations in the car-(interview on some local radio station covering my area here in NJ!!!!)-I couldn't wait to get home and look her up....now I can't wait to buy her CD...and jam in the kitchen while I bake!!! Keep going girl!!! and thank you!!
I've been reading and hearing about her for several years. They weren't making things up. It's time for Kerrville to get the Bluegrass Festival going over Labor Day again. Now, that would be economic stimulus with a real benefit.
Nice touch on the fiddle by young Jarasz, this is a different, and I think, better, version than the one I recorded but both are very good. Nice work on this of course...
No you would pronounce it as iarosh, it is a polish surname and in polish you would normally pronounce "sz" as 'sh.' Also, one should try to pronounce ia as lightly as possible as the sound stands somewehere between "ja" and "ia"
Yes, I have seen that as well on her Myspace page but that is probably the way she wants to have her surname pronounced. One of my closest friends is actually Jarosz and I can guarantee that the correct pronounciation is "IAROSH." :)
SG, I shot a bit more, hope to have it up soon. Wanted to shoot the whole set, but battery/memory was running low, dang it. I did see someone who shot from the back of the hall with a Canon Prosumer, they may have the entire set. Wonder who it is?
I remember I got the slinky bass solo in "Grandma's Hands" and am not sure what else, maybe a couple of other snippits. I think the song with Aoife, too.
thats such a sick nasty run Sarah does towards the end of her break

This is an awesome song, and her album is great. "Come down off the cross, we could use the wood".. What a line. This is a Tom Waits song btw.

I like the sound of the fiddle in the intro how it's plucked rather than bowed--gives it a unique sound.
Also, that girl's great at mandolin!

This is a great memory. How packed the room was. Great thing for the artists!

From her Myspace page:
Sarah Jarosz (pronounced juh-ROSE)
...She's a killer live musician. She's been playing the Old Settler's Music Fest since she was 12 years old. She has an album coming out in June.

After having her dad for a government and economics teacher in high school and getting to the know the family they pronounce it Juh-ROSE.
It's so amazing now to see how amazing she is and what a gorgeous young woman she is turning into! I can't wait to see her at Blue Rock in Wimberley!
