When you talk about players, you have to consider the era. Koufax was the best left hander I ever saw in his era. Gibby was as good as any righty. Im biased cause he is a relative of mines. I think however for any era, Walter Johnson tops em all. When you consider who he played for, his record is amazing. On the Koufax/Brock thing, after he bunted Koufax drilled him to send a msg. Broke shoulder blade. The Cards got the msg. Dont bunt on me for hits. Sandy wasnt the best of fielders on bunts.
bob feller wuz better then gibson, he had more better pitching seasons then gibson and gibson only good season were 68 and 70 while feller won 20 games 6 times
Wins are a team effort. Even if he had two really good seasons, I believe Bob Gibson in 1968 was better than any pitcher in any season. I really do. Plus Feller played during a depleted war era, whereas Gibson played during a stronger era and they actually lowered the mound because of him.
how about pedro martinez, mlb network ranked pedro in 2000 the best season ever, sure he didnt have the lowest era but his 1.74 era wuz about a third better than the league era which wuz around 5 and he gave up an average of 5.31 hits per 9 innings. And he had a better strikeout per 9 innings ratio than gibson. plus he wuz pitching in the american league which has a DH rule and this was also during the steroid era where all the hitters were hitting 40 to 50 homeruns while batting 300
Yeah but that's the steroid era too. I don't give credibility to people with steroids. Gibson hurled over 300 innings with a 204 ERA+ and a WHIP under 1.
Let me just say that with all due respect, you won't change my mind.
@chicksdigmizunos98. Sandy could talk to opposing players and still get them out. He did throw inside though but a poor fielder if you got a ball on the ground. Lou Brock reached on a bunt against him, stole second, reached third on a force, and came home on a sac. Next time up, Sandy threw right at his back and Lou was out for that game which set the tone. That was in 1965 and who won that year?
@Ariamaluum game 1 was when he set a world series record 15 strikeouts in one game until it was broken by gibson in 68 with 17 and then he struck out 8, he actually made a bet with whitey ford on which pitcher will strikeout more and whitey won the bet but he said he would have rather won the games
I agree he was the greatest and always my favorite. I remember many games at Connie Mack, how could I root for the Phillies when he pitched. And he did it on pure talent.
Everyone should agree that Bob Gibson is one of the greatest, if not the best, Pitchers of all time!!! His talent and heart throughout his career was driven by the passion to compete!! HE'S FANTASTIC!!!!!

Gibby has the record for the best E.R.A. of 1.12 in I believe 1968 or maybe 1967.
