I live in Surrey, b.c. Canada, a friend of mine was attacked by a falling tree octopus , cut off the circulation in his left hand and he nearly lost it, I had to take a burning log out of the fire from the firepit and singe the octopus so that it let go of my friend's wrist. We were 2500' above sea level in the Chilliwack mountain range, up the logging trails. It was very scary.....

Of course they are. I've witnessed them many times myself while hiking in mountainous regions of British Columbia. I saw a spectacular one crossing a logging road, and I saw another cracking open rock-nest monster eggs with large stones and eating the liquid interiors.

Besides those sightings, I've seen many of them swinging gracefully through high tree branches in our coniferous forests.
