I can't see what's the big deal about the new walkway. When people walk on any moving walkway they appear to be moving faster. That comparison at the end wasn't objective.

usual walkways often moves around 0.5-0.6 meters per second. but in this technology first step is taken onto the usual speed (0.5-0.6 m/sec) but afterwards, walkway stretches and reaches the speed of ~2m/sec. (that's the big deal) it means that you take the same distance (except entering and leaving points) ~3.5 times faster.

I was able to ride the express walkway last month when I was coming back from a short vacation. It's indeed faster than the usual walkway, and was a interesting experience to try. This video made it look even much faster, though. When you walk it feels like you are running, feeling the head wind in your face :-)

Wow! Looks great. Last time I was at YYZ this walkway was out of order and I had to take the slow one. =(
