Nirmala, thank you so much for this comment. I can sense the truth of it, because it's 180 degrees away from what I would have expected. I remember Eckhart talking about this at some length. Bypassing language limitations, I thought the attention benefited the object of our awareness, the "other". Now I see that this practice, which is really just a simple way of of being, benefits "us", as the one subject. Every authentic experience I've ever had was exactly backwards from what I expected.
So whatever we pay attention to we feed it with live..but it can not be the source of love for us! It becomes the space within us..no matter what it is....our attention somehow "produces" space..and this space goes hand in hand with our attention, the moment we stop giving attention the space escapes..so that which we give is the attention a that which we receice is the Space..but the reason why we give attention is Love.Love that does not stop giving the attentionLove is "born" in our attention
Love or oneness, space or emptiness, and attention or awareness are all inherent qualities of our essential nature, just as wetness, transparency and fluidity are all inherent qualities of water. You can not separate them just as you can not have dry water. All expereinces that flow into awareness dissolve back into formless space, and all outward expressions of awareness or attention are a movement from formlessness out into form.
But the only important point practically is that we are filled with love when we give spacious loving attention to others, not when we receive it from others.
