You have to be careful with the battery, a thick copperwire has low resistance, therefore you will get a high current trhough the battery making it warm or even hot, nice experiment, I used it to explain the left hand rule in physics.

I had some N52 neo mags laying around. Found some solid copper hookup wire. It took about 5 minutes to get it running. The battery sure does warm up a lot so there's a lot of juice running through the wire. I think the current through the wires interacts with the magnetic field from the magnet and gets it off and running. I found that if I flipped the magnet over it would run even faster. I wonder why?
