Just wouldn't pay to see these guys at this point,,hell for what they want for some seating,, I could buy a top of the line HDTV and sound system while enjoying steak and lobster as I watch the shows on u tube!! the choice isn't hard and the new sound system would do them some justice!!
@AngelofAnguish You bet. They're concert was better than any I've seen except for them back in the day. I've been to loads of concerts and they by far are the "Masters" of Rock n Roll! They have it going on big time. Only thing that THEIR age affected was David Lee Roth's extreme mid air jumps. He still has his great kicks though and more flexible than a lot of younger people. They simply Rock!
@blacklable1960 Yes, in my opinion, while he DID "talk" the show(s) away, I'd rather hear DLR talk, than listen to the b.s. "music" the modern bands, as well as music stores, and radio stations, are playing/promoting, today!
@THudgens81 funny thing is, i wouldnt call it greedy when theyre still as talented as the were. Go to one of their shows.... i would pay a lot to be sitting front row. And I didn't even grow up with these guys, I had to grow up with boyband crap.
david lee roth has always sucked live...... ALWAYS!!! now they are just old and suck!! Ive seen both van halens and the david lee roth part sucks live!! and I do like both van halens but not david lee roth live

What a showman, i reckon Dave could have been the best performer in the WWE i reckon Shaun Michaels based his WWE character a little bit on Diamond Dave,
@THudgens81 Supply & Demand my friend.... if you wont buy it, someone else will. Suggest you stay home & watch YouTube and if lucky, they'll release a DVD you can afford. All the Best...
Sorry, it's cool and all, but let's be honest, it's fucked-up Dave fucking up a great song. Thanks to Dave's bullshit, Van Halen was guaranteed to never earn a place in history as one of rock's "great live bands." His lame "look at all the people here tonight" song-stopping crap was less tolerable in person than it is in this video. No one ever knew what the fuck he was talking about - the cheering wasn't for his yap, it was to encourage Ed to start playing again and shut Dave up.
@gregv2k Imagine HOW MUCH "b.s." Mike, Alex, and ED, had to tolerate from "Diamond Dave" on AND off-stage? BUT, remember, THIS IS "ENTERTAINMENT," right-and YOU KNOW how BIG "EGOS" can get?
@gregv2k You sound like some punk who discovered VH after listening to OU812. Obviously you weren't at any classic VH concerts. The biggest cheers of the night were when Dave jumped off the drum riser. I should know asshole, I was there while you were sucking mommy's milk. Dave *WAS* VH. Even Hagar admitted this...
@Danyerd In my opinion, now that they're "sober" or have gotten themselves "cleaned-up"-AGAIN, and have some GOD-AWFUL hair-dos (dude, this is METAL you're playing, GROW YOUR HAIR BACK), they're music no longer sounds like VAN HALEN!!
i think anything that diamond dave did was pretty raw, pretty spuratic. it was certainly honest. to compare dave with sammy... what is there to compare. hagar was a well machined and oiled singer wanting to put out a perfect album.. thats what the vh bros wanted. but it isnt what sells.. i love em both, but urgency and spuratic behavior is what people want to see and feel it in records... am i right??????
@blite13 Sorry, if you are trying to Say Sammy sold more than DLR, that is a myth that has been perpetuated by Sammy and his minions. Just look at the official sales figures: DLR-era albums Van Halen 10 million Van Halen II 5 million Women & Children First 3 million Fair Warning 2 million Diver Down 4 million 1984 10 million TOTAL = 34 million Hagar-era 5150 6 million OU812 4 million FUCK 3 million Live: Right Here, Right Now 2 million Balance 3 million TOTAL= 18m
Funny thing is you could buy a ticket and be on the floor for 10 to 12 bucks.....Now its 499 and they are in their 60s.......Sorry guys but its ticket prices like that make me dislike greedy bands
@THudgens81 It's less the band than you might think. Read the book "Ticket Masters: The Rise of the Concert Industry and How the Public Got Scalped" and you'll get a clearer picture of how ticket prices increased ten-fold in just a few years.
@THudgens81 gotta disagree on the 'greedy'. It's what the market will bear. The scalpers used to get it, the bands figured out that it makes more sense for them to get it than the scalpers.. errrrr 'online brokers'. I agree however, they are over the hill and not worth that much money.
@wendelmania punch in their tour dates now. Feb 28 at madison square garden.. want floor tickets?? that'll be $5000!! yes FIVE THOUSAND! want nose bleeds? $60 bucks!! fuck these guys....1982 called...they want their band back...
@THudgens81 yep you got that right. I was looking to buy tickets for the Atlantic City show, they want 180 bucks for the crappiest seats in the place, behind the stage and a pile of speakers. And prices go sky high the better the seats get. Forget it , at least I can say I seen them 3 times back in their prime (early 80's)
LOL I remember this routine from when I saw them in NYC on this tour. I was just shy of my 14th birthday. Since then, I've seen hundreds of bands, some with better singers... but I've never seen a more perfect rock and roll frontman than D.L.R.
@80s90ssports i was actually talking about the way he ruined the show. People came to hear music not hear him talk. I can see why Van Halen got rid of DLR, it was all about him as far as he was concerned. And i am not a homo.
This was from the pre-Hagar era when Van Halen was a ROCK band and not a Pop band. The band's attitude softened with Hagar. Even if you like some of those songs you have to admit that their focus was on radio-friendly hits and not balls-to-the-wall rock and roll.
@har9020 I agree in some ways, even though Hagar was the better singer, but when Roth went solo his sound was more pop and tried to recreate Eddie's guitar playing with Steve Vai..Now,let's talk about DLR's outfits...more fruitier than Rod Stewart's during the 80's? I think so..then,DLR did bluegrass versions of VH songs not too long ago? No ROCK there.Tried to do something different or daring? Maybe, but he should've stuck with what he's good at,right?
Anyone who strikes ANY comparison between DLR and other Van Halen lineups after seeing this should have their head examined. ENTERTAINMENT and energy at it's best.
I love when some jabroni like little Jimmy Dennett all the sudden steps away from his day-job in his cubicle or man-hole or whatever and becomes Ric Rueben or Quincy Jones and decides he is qualified to determine what "good sound" is. This is a massive arena rock-show in the early 80's, Van Halen rocked and the people had their minds blown for 3 hours. Save your technical BS for a RUSH gig.
This may very well be the best live Van Halen I've ever seen!!! Haven't seen a video where the crowd goes off like this!!!! I wish I could have been there!
this is dave at his best...for better or worse....DLR is the man...ego and all. watchn this video...just reminds us all of how autnenitc these guys are...the ultimate garage band...long live VH!!
@Tamaslammer Alex had 6 Clair Bros S-4's (each w 2x18" woofer, 4x10" mid, 2x 2" horns) as a drum monitor. So loud! Couldn't use acoustic drums or they'd feed back. Alex was deaf. Wasn't until 1991 F.U.C.K tour that he used a small acoustic kit and normal monitors.
There has never been or ever will be a live band that could touch Van Halen in this era....man they sound so tough and aggressive here, and Eddie is King of the gunslingers here. His tone and chops are so far beyond anything Ive ever heard. Pure swagger and lighting. Not too mention how awesome they sound when they harmonize on the chorus...gives me the chills...
This sounds like it was off the mixing board. I saw this tour in '82 and it was crazy, but i don't recall it being so ... accelerated. Talk about an aerobic workout, the songs I've seen of this tour were done at a sped up tempo almost to the point of being indistinguishable.
@MrBillyBatts1 ive got to hand it to van hagar,if they werent any good people like you wouldnt have to keep telling people they sucked after alllll this time..lol
@Pat9201 you know im not saying van halen with sammy sucked cause i did like some of it and ou812 is a very good album from start to finish. All i would say is they should have called the band something else besides Van Halen. I think the last two albums by van hager were much to be desired but they did some good stuff. I just rather hear the band with Roth
@MrBillyBatts1 all im saying is you rarely hear someone say that this is soo much better than anything solo roth did...that goes without saying..lol..if van hagar was that bad then they would have been forgotten by now.
@babu29205 well,Hagar was in Montrose and went solo and had hits. What hits did Roth have when he went solo? Oh,yeah,a Beach Boys song...cute,but not ROCK...I'm not hating on Roth, but I prefer his stuff with VH and not his later stuff. It pales in comparision..
@MrBillyBatts1 I hate those Roth vs. Hagar things... I love Roth-era soo much, but i still think that they made some great stuff with Hagar. And, afterall, F.U.C.K is probably their best album. And Balance is great too. Stop that Roth-Hagar shit, they are both incredible.
Just wouldn't pay to see these guys at this point,,hell for what they want for some seating,, I could buy a top of the line HDTV and sound system while enjoying steak and lobster as I watch the shows on u tube!! the choice isn't hard and the new sound system would do them some justice!!

@MrBillyBatts1 Hagar? Who's that? :o)
