What happened to mercy killing. Sure there is an over population of foxes and coyotes. Sure these same animals will attack calves and chickens. But they don't willingly attack them for the sport. Coyotes and foxes hunt to feed in order to survive. They definitely DO NOT attack just for the fun of it!!! Training hounds to hunt is fair when you're looking at protecting your livestock. But to continue filming and encouraging your dogs to mutilate indicates an ignorant, uneducated person.

my friend actually uses stray hunting dogs as food for his african rock python. That sucker is at least 20ft long and requires huge meals. Scares the hell out of me. I'm not for this but it's all part of nature. Predator/prey.

Anyways about the hunting dogs. Most of the local hunting groups either kill or just let the older dogs or the dogs that don't hunt well wander off.

Now as for pen training. It is now illegal in Florida to pen train with fox and coyotes.

There is no-way the coyotes can escape when your using those hounds. Even the strongest coyotes can't escape their own scent! Why not use a couple of sighthounds i.e lurchers, Scottish deerhounds, who would be able to kill with one or two bites rather than a pack of dogs biting away at the poor coyote. Sighthounds instinctively go for throat and neck. Also as sighthounds don't rely on scent, strong healthy coyotes will have good chance of escape.

That is not hunting. It is dog fighting. It shouldn't be legal just because a pack of dogs is fighting a coyote instead of another dog. Where is the fair chase? When did hunting become so abusive? Dogs are used in relays to chase the coyotes until the dogs become tired and they have chased the coyote to exhaustion and then the "kill" dogs are sent in to tear apart the coyote. Sometimes, the coyote is shot in the rear to make it even easier for the "kill" dogs.

Even the actual "hunts" are totally skewed. One set of dogs runs the animal to exhaustion or corners it, and then a second pack of the "killer dogs" come in to murder the coyote. This behavior has nothing to do with hunting. I just found a video where the coyote is in a tube and the dogs are trying to get a hold to drag it out. That isn't working, so the man teases the coyote with a leash until the coyote bites the leash. Then the man drags the coyote out so that his five hound dogs can tear him apart. If that is hunting, then I think people should hate hunting. That isn't the way that the men in my family hunt.

I have been working with coyotes for twenty three years There has been one child killed by a coyote and that happened in the 1980's.The parents left their child in the yard with a fried chicken leg.The coyote attacked because it wanted the food.
