Slim PS3 Fan Noise

my ps3 80gb sounds like a hoover! from the vids i've seen online the ps3 slim is gonna be about 10 times quieter than my console. Looks like i'll be saving up for a ps3 slim!

All that is is the plastic case contracting/shrinking/expandin­g depending on the temperature. For example, if a room is particularly cool, and you finish a 2,3 or 4 hour game session before suddenly turning off your PS3 console....it gets cool quickly, therefore you hear pops and clicks from the case. Your motherboard and CPU/GPU are fine....nothing to worry over.

yes my slim is quiet 2 but when first turn it on i here a slight clunking but it goes away sometimes but goes away all the time once the fan picks up speed any idias

my Slim's been silent for 2 months now. and ive probably used it for nearly 200 hours now, (Gaming, Internet and Blu-ray Playback)

Its still as quiet as the day i 1st turned it on. Itll probably be noiser as the years progress, but as far as im concerned, its frikking silent..

my xbox sounds like a tank engine. remedy to loud game systems is an even louder music system to drown it out.

Please understand that the microphone is directly against the vents therefor the sound is magnified by like 10x if your sitting on a chair or at the couch you will not hear it trust me.

Hell I've hade my 60 gig ps3 since feb 2007.

Mine sounds exactly the same. Its sooo annoying. Even I didn't start playing yet coz I just got it. When it starts first its soo quite but the noise get more and more gradually and fast, def. its from the fan, but the console's temperature is average, so why that much of fan spin?? I was looking for energy saving settings but nothing there controls the noisy fan. seems that I will have to send it back for replacement or refund. Pity coz the Bravia Sync works great with my sony bravia TV.

dont send it back for a replacement, i did that, and the fan sounds the same. Cause the unit is smaller and the ps3 does still heat up quik, the fans to to rev more to keep it cool. I heard if u keep it vertical it wil lsound better. So try out the vertical stand. i got find my self a cabinet where i can place the ps3 low and shut it from noise.
