I've browsed the LROC image in question. Around 'tower', to the left and also below, are at least eight other similar objects. Smaller, but appearing white and casting distinct, triangular shadows. They look like either natural outcroppings or perhaps were part of some larger object. The most interesting is just outside the video frame above, on the rim of that big crater at frame bottom. It also casts a tower like shadow, but looks quite rock like. Just in case nobody has said already. :)

Have you ever seen a tree shadow when the Sun is low? Depending on the size of the tree, they are VERY long. Determining the size of the object is wholly dependent on knowing what angle the light source is hitting the object at.

I was looking at the moon with my 5" telescope and saw a starnge pattern of six 'blobs', in 2 rows of 3 deep and apeared to be dome shaped. Obivouly what I saw must be massive to see even with a telescope. The moon was about 1/4 full and the objects were on the edge of the dark area which may make their shadows exagurated, but the perfect uniform pattern is what I found strange, unatural.

Sorry, not buying this to be a tower just yet. It's higher than the surroundings, yes, but looking at all the shadows, not just the conical one from the so-called tower, tells me that the sun was merely peeking over the horizon. The long shadow is impressive, but not making it a tower. At small angles, even a toothpick can cast a mile-long shadow. Also I don't see any "square base" on this thing.

The "tower" merely is the central peak located in the center of the oblong shaped crater surrounding it. The crater is older than the smaller crater above the peak since that smaller crater has destroyed the north wall of the older crater with the central peak. Lots of craters on the moon have central peaks. A strong central peak indicates that the impact was straight down onto the moon rather than being a glancing impact.

While this particular peak is amazing in itself, it was the square base of the structure which raised my curiosity. Perhaps this is just an effect of shadow, or perhaps it is of artificial origin. If they send me up there, I will gladly report back everything I find. :)

Hehe. I would be happy to travel to the moon too. The peak is rather striking for such a small crater. Numerous other lunar craters, some rather large and easily visible in small amateur telescopes, show similar peaks with somewhat square bases. :-)

It could be but your ideas of how shadows appear on crater edges are incorrect. On a crater edge, the shadow would actually look SMALLER then what they actually are. They appear smaller when the shadow is cast onto a higher elevated surface, which is the case in this image.

By calling them towers we are only suggesting that they resemble one; whether it's made of rock or some other material is impossible to know for sure, but we can assume that the pictures we are seeing here are accurate and there are multiple spiking shadows with great symmetry originating from objects with more reflectivity than the surrounding areas. Any close observer would take these objects into account with suspicion.

Very true. But what we must remember is not to rely just on the shadows. At the 89 DEG Sun Elevation Angle, many objects can cast pyramid like shadows (Remember the Blaire Cuspids on Mars?). What attracted me is the symmetry of the Tower itself. Remember the NASA image AS10-32-4822? In that image (some versions, but that's another story), appears an anomaly known as "The Castle". By looking at this tower, I could see features of the castle if I looked at it from above. That's what caught me. :)

Great question. If you look at the image home, they tell us that 1 pixel = 1.85 Meters. So by measuring the length of the base in pixels and multiplying it by 1.85, this gives us the length in meters of the base and the shadow itself. The height is not as tall as the shadow perceives it to be. As the S.E. angles was 89 deg. Additional data is also avaliable in the mission Ephemeris.

I noticed the shadow but I did not notice anything that might be casting it unless the small white rectangle on the rim of the crater is part of the object casting it or the actual object has just been obfuscated.

And though these objects are anomalous, we have to take in account the scale here. Older moon images could sometimes represent down to 1 km per pixel, but the newer, high-res images might show these objects to be much smaller than they appear. Anyone know the scale here?

Yes Chrispins. This original image is 5064 pixels wide by 5120 in height. Resolution is 1.85 Meters per pixel. (Yes it is that damn good lol). I have measured the shadow to be approx. 500 meters in length, and the "sides" of the base at about 49.5 meters.

Oh this is just the beginning. We have found MANY more things so far, just haven't had time to make them presentable as this one....

Even FURTHER evidence supporting Hoagland's Lunar Domes in the "Smoking Gun" :)

Wow, what a remarkable feature you found! Personally, I was at first concluding that the new image data to be "received" by the LRO was probably going to be faked by releasing renderings or artwork (instead of the actual captured images) to the public, but this video gives me newly found hope that NASA may now be willing/able to release unobfuscated images of the moon for the first time!

They can't hide it anymore. These cameras are good. Plus as with Hoagland's "Smoking Gun", we are seeing data flat out leaked.
