Without knowing exactly what you're working on I'd say you can try under the effects tab>color key, then choose black as your color and everything black will be removed. Just remember it will key out all that is black including if the subject is wearing black tie, etc. You can play with the tolerance and other levels until you get what you want. Also just try playing with the composite mode effects -luma, screen, multiply, add, subtract and you can get a lot of variety in your effects.
i tried this effect with a picture of a cockpit of a plane and placing a video of clouds behind the windows which i had previously colored white. After rendering, though, the clouds also partly showed up in other places of the cockpit, just faded a bit. I used the first way to do this (Modify- composite mode- Travel Matte, Luma) is there a way to get rid of these extra parts? any tips would be appreciated.. thanks you
One of the simplest ways I can think of may be stacking two pictures of the cockpit on top of each other but for the picture that is on the higher video track, crop the picture down to the size of the cockpit panels that way when you apply the effect to the lower video layer of the cockpit it doesn't matter that the cockpit is affected in addition to the clouds since you used a 2nd photo of the cockpit to cover up you didn't like. Play with this and see it that helps...and let us know...
In this tutorial I used Stock footage, animated backgrounds and animated wipes from a company called Digital Juice. The fire and pouring water are samples of the stock footage along with the fire dancer, swimmer. While the fire wipe and water wipe are from Digital Juice's Swipes collection. Unfortunately Digital Juice retired their stock footage libraries, however they may get more in the future but you can find stock footage elsewhere.
But look at their JumpBack collection which they are retiring very soon too, they have a fire volume if that is something in particular you are looking for. Hope this helps.
Andronikosxx, we can try doing a tutorial for you but could you do us a favor and try explaining what kind of effect your hoping to achieve since we want to be sure we're understanding your question.
The Luma key basically cuts out the white from the video, allowing for the video or image below it to show through. So in response, after you luma key, you are able to put any type of background behind it, just find a solid white backdrop image. Let us know if that did not answer your question.
You know I believe we are working under the 100MB limit, our videos are under 10 minutes so we don't worry about them being too big so we never look anymore. We use Final Cut Express HD so when we are done with a segment we export using QT conversion, then click on QT and click on Broadband Medium. If you click on options you can see what the specifics are in terms of codec, audio compression but Broadband Medium gives us great file size and great picture quality. Hope this helps.
Sorry I thought I had replied to this message but I find no record of a message sent to you. This fire clip was part of Digital Juice's Videotraxx 3 library of stock footage. Actually I believe every video clip and music piece came from Videotraxx 3 and their StackTracks songs. You can find great video production and Final Cut tutorials on Digital Juice's website.
Thank you... That's what I looking for....

Pretty cool. Do you think you could put up a tutorial showing a Split screen luma effect. Like a transparent gradient effect?
