The issue is that the Bush Administration (and Petraeus, a general suddenly turned politico due to Bush's lack of persuasiveness) is proclaiming that there is less violence when this is simply not true. It is false. It is misleading. And they are repeating it, just as they repeated in 2003 that the weapons were there, that we'd find them, that we'd be greeted as liberators, etc., etc. You really don't need to complicate it any further.

Yes, but the only way we will ensure the continuing, I think I spelled that wrong, survival of the government is to show the people there that it's worth supporting. A huge part of that is making the population safe.

The media has failed us on so many levels, I don't see any way I could ever trust them again. I use to have respect for CNN and NBC. I never actually had it for Fox though.

MOST IRAQIS HATE US! No, hate is too weak a word. MOST IRAQIS WANT US DEAD! In a new joint ABC/BBC/NHK (Japanese tv) poll 57% of Iraqis support attacks on the troops. When you break it down 93% of Sunnis (93%!), 50% of Shiites, and 5% of Kurds support attacks on our troops. When a majority of the people you are trying to help want you dead it is time to LEAVE. Only a complete lunatic would think otherwise.

In this recent poll (from last month) 82% of those in central Iraq, including Baghdad, said that security is either "Quite Bad" or "Very Bad"- this is after millions have been displaced due to sectarian violence and had to flee their homes. Couric has never been, and never will be, an investigative journalist. She's a fluff reporter. Why is she even targeted? She's a face with no substance. i'm damn surprised she didn't ask Petraeus, "What's your favorite color?" or, "If you could meet anyone in history, what kind of tree would you be?"
That's as tough as she gets. There's far more advantage in going after sheeporters like Blitzer or Matthews who manage to repeat the same poo that's on Fux every night.

this is a major news broadcast with access to high level personnel. I dont think they would have agreed to it if they were going to get a real investigation. This was a fluff piece done behind the safety of armor plating and kevlar.
