  • @DNL1993 that little display tells him if his car is running rich on fuel or lean on fuel. the lower the number the richer it is. you never really want it to be over 16. 12 to 14 is optimal

    Only the top half of it is stock. The piece under the fuse block (which is the stock piece that's retrictive) is hard pipe.

  • The 97+ bumper requires 97+ headlights, and I had already ordered the headlights. They do look much better, but I just wanted to stick to the original look of the car. Everyone does the 2gb conversion.

  • Girl in on-coming traffic decided to make a WOT, suicide left turn in front of me, THROUGH a line of stopped traffic (couldn't see he until she was in front of me). I had about 10 feet and a half-second to stop from 40mph. Needless to say, I hardly had time to even hit the brakes.

  • not bad numbers i have to say. after some quick number crunching, your average HP rating is right around 210ish. hard to get an exact with the blurry dyno sheet, but not shabby. always look at the area under the curve i say.

  • i cant get this straight...do you have to bore the cylinders for oversized pistons? for example say if you have 85 mm pistons do you have to bore your cylinders to 85 mm aswell for the pistons to fit?

  • Yes, the cylinder needs to be bored to fit oversized pistons. The piston is bigger so the cylinder it rides in needs to be bigger. Your machinist can determine by how much.

  • No.  What is there to upgrade to? The GM MAF's are unreliable, inaccurate piles of crap and going to AEM to switch to speed/density is kind of overkill for anything under 500hp.

  • hey man did you put new pistons on your car or are the stock ones because i have a 95 gsx and i'm running 15 psi but i want to get 20 psi but i don't know if the stock pistons will make it.

  • The motor is internally stock, except for a metal headgasket and removed balance shafts. The stock pistons on 2nd gen motors are stronger than the 1st gen pistons (my motor is first gen swap). Your stock motor (with a metal headgasket!) is safe to around 400whp as long as you keep the detonation to a minimum. What boost it takes to make that power is irrelevant. Whether 20psi is safe or not depends what turbo you're running and how much fuel you have available.

  • Just in case you were considering it, like a lot of DSM people usually are... do yourself a favor and don't get a 16g. I don't care what anyone tells you, the ARE NOT appropriately sized for anything over 300awhp. You'll make the power you want far easier and safer with a larger turbo. Get some cams too.

  • What do you mean a lot safer, like more reliable, and I was thinking about doin cams anyway but just need to decide on which ones I want. (dose it help that I have an Evo 16g, I no they flow better)

  • Safer because you'll make the power you want with less boost and much, much less heat. The Evo 16g is slightly better, but it's still only a 300awhp turbo, realistically. With cams, that turbo isn't even going to be able to hold anything over 20psi until redline. It's better to just get an approriate sized turbo, you'll have a better powerband, it'll pull hard to redline, and you'll be much less likely to blow the car up. Plus, if you want more power later, it'll leave you room to grow.

  • You're all pretty retarded for arguing on youtube, but Nikblack is right, there is no "ideal" AFR and 99.9% of memebers of every major DSM site are a bunch of retards. Tuning is done on a car-by-car basis.

    The AFR's on a dyno read richer than they actually are on the street. At 23psi (during the time of the video) I was running in the 11.7 range, and at 27psi (currently) I have a tune for the 10.8 area on pump and another for 11.2 on a pump/race mix.

  • No, I was running an Evo 16g before the accident (made 282awhp @ 21psi) and running a t3/t04e 50 trim after, that's what the current numbers were made on.

  • I run a BIG Evo III 16G now on my Scion tC. Bout to upgrade to a 20G. The t3/t04e seems to take a good while to spool on your motor.  Still on stock Motor?

  • Yea the motor is internally stock except of a balance shaft removal and metal head gasket. It actually spool pretty quickly. I currently see 27psi before 4,000rpm which is more than decent for a 2.0L. The reason it seems to spool slow on the dyno is because of the numerous exhaust leaks I had at the time.

  • I'm use to hitting full boost by 2,800rpm. 2.4L motor in the tC. PSI totally different as well. 282 on a tC is usually seen around 9-10lbs of boost. You have some dedication though for rebuilding it after the accident. Mani looks good.

  • Tell that to my time slip, dumbass. If anything the power was significantly higher. I trapped 115mph on 21psi, which, for the weight of the car is more indicative of 400whp.

  • I only asked to make a point that you weren't a tuner and didn't know what you are talking about. I've looked on those forums and 95% of the advice given is from people who have "read it somewhere" or think they know. I own a performance car tuning shop so can tell you that saying "Perfect AFR for a turbo DSM is 11 to 1" is wrong. What "vertigoesi" said is a lot smarter. 11:1 afr in some conditions is dangerous.

  • Ok. Both my cars are tuned for 11:1 and neither of them pull timing at WOT. And every other DSM I have ever been in, seen or worked with has been the exact same.

  • So just by going in a car you can tell it's exact afr and what the timing's doing? Wow that's amazing. Even I can't do that and I've been tuning for years. Either that or I guess you haven't been in many that have been worked on by people who know what they are doing.

    PS, on most ECUs throttle position has very little or nothing to do with what the timing should be doing so who gives a s**t if your cars don't "pull timing at WOT". It just proves again that you don't have a clue. Good luck.

  • It's personal preferance really. 90-91's had the 6 bolt motor which has its benefits and its drawbacks, they are also ugly as death, as are the 93-94's. 95-96 are the same body style as my car and came stock with the 7 bolt motor. 97+ is the most common body style with the big wing and the big mouth front bumper. The old style cars (90-94) are marginally lighter, but that's about the only real performance differance. 92+ motors also had the issue with crankwalk.

  • Yea my friend (CTP owner) and I made the header ourselves. The accident definately sucked, but the other car was 100% liable so they just financed my build. lol

  • Hey man beautiful car, a tear might have came from my eye when I saw that little accident there. Did you fabricate the header? If you did it looks awesome. 349 @ the wheels is pretty nice, even with stock cams and the SAFC.

  • I'm only tuning with an SAFC and I also have stock cams, combine those two and you get the lowish number. It should be an easy 400hp with cams and an intake manifold.

  • Exactly what i was gonna say. Cams and manifold make a big diff... I got one but not the other and i am shooting for 350whp+ with about the same setup...and a built bottom end bored .040 =)

  • Nice motor build, good sleeper look minus the headlights. Seems like 349 hp @ 23 psi seems a bit low for that high a boost level, what kind of tuning did you use? Not to say thats not much hp, 350 with AWD is more than enough on a street car.
