@SuperFoxylady2010 I just got introduced to them on Skype at a friends for the evening-Ellie and Ray(bass player)-hence my visit to them on Youtube. So glad Youtube manages to have so many people digging into their collections and archives and bring memories back. What a lucky generation !
My mate asked me to go and watch these in winter 1980 at Fairwater leisure centre Cwmbran, I told him to fuck off, so he went on his own and met a girl at the gig, dated her and got her up the duff. 32 years later they are still together, and I am twice divorced................. lol. Must be some moral in this forsaken story somewhere!
Good song but so totally over-acted (and so obviously mimed!) ... how people manage to play their electric guitars without a lead in them was nothing short of miraculous on TOTP. lol
bloody lovely,, ive always loved this song since i was a kid,, you surtanly cant keep your ass on a seat once this gets played..... disco at its best....
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that "fruit on the drums" subsequently enjoyed a lengthy tenure with The Searchers before giving it up to spend time with his fiancee Jane McDonald (cruise ship singer who became a presenter on TV's "Loose Women"). Two of the others joined a blues/rock band who have been on the ciruit for absolutely years.
@MalcNedd62 Yes correct about Wally on drums Syd on guitar joined MUD after and is still going strong as MUD2 since Les Grays death. Ray (bass) and Ellie married and own a pine furniture shop in Surrey or Kent somewhere and don't gig anymore. they all came to our jam night a few years ago along with Rob Davies from Mud and did a short set great night!!!!
To me, they always looked like a bunch of schoolteachers dressed up for a suburban pub-crawl (followed by a keys-in-the-ashtray piss-up at some Abigail's Party-style home).

tell that bloke he's the drummer, not the lead singer, he's got a license to lurk, need to sit down and drum, but my mum cant see me at the back, stand up, no i'm the drummer. put some clothes on, like the song though.
got to admit i love this tune. and what a voice. she aint to good at miming though. fuck x factor and all the shit they put on these days none of them can sing its all bollocks. this is what music was all about. glad i grew up in the late 70s early 80s and not growing up in todays way of life. we had good times not the shit you get today. and tunes like this made it even better.
Love Liquid Gold! If only music was this much fun these days! Music takes itself far too seriously today, what do we have? Take That, Westlife, Coldplay, Lady GaGa. Where's the humour gone?!
Anybody who likes this stuff I can recommend a BBC local radio station that broadcasts across middle England a show called "The Trunk of Funk" Thursday nights 7pm till 9pm or listen on line. Get down on it.
Jimmy Saville... "now then, now then, rattle, rattle, jingle, jingle... say everything twice, say everything twice.." Quality. Really miss TOTP it was iconic by todays standards.... thursday evenings just arn't the same... niether is Christmas Day
Dam was it 30 years ago i was dancing to this as a teenager. This was a great Disco track and here in the UK we loved it to bits. Disco music to me has been the best sound around as its such happy foot tapping catchy and fun, Without the need to sell drugs shoot someone in a drive by slap your bitch up or hang out in the hood with your home boyz. Why did music go down hill so much and end up with todays rubbish. Thanks for posting this great Disco track..
@suzayyy64 it is her boyfriend- ed rothe (well fiancee really :D ) ! i wonder what she thinks of his outfit in this performance :P i love this song too, a great disco classic.
I would say that Liquid Gold must have been one of the first UK disco bands.. this sort of sound only came out of the US prior to 1980.. comments anyone?
1980 would'nt be complete without Liquid Gold, especially this hit, loved it when it was out and still do. It brings back some good memories of that year for me! Thanks for post! Benja :-)
