British sidelined Sinhalese and pampered Tamils. By the time they left 60%-70% of the executive positions were held by Tamils. Tamil bureaucrats and intellectuals tried to maintain their upper hand. As Sinhalese gained more an more political power they tried to reverse it and Tamils reacted. This is the part of the history that LTTE sympathizers skip. If you gave Sinhalese the equal right then, there would not have been this issue.

Tamils just followed the orders from British if they don't they will be punished. All the British colonization done in such a way to create conflict within the countries. As you all know there was Tamil and Sinhala kingdoms before Europeans colonized Ceylon, since it's hard to live together it's better to divorce and live in peace.

LTTE. These numbers are wrong. Everywhere the number is recorded as 70000-80000. So, 100000+ Tamils cannot have been killed. And LTTE sympathizers bloat or downplay other numbers in LTTE's favor. LTTE targets civilians, government forces cause collateral damage. Definitely, the terrorist organization is LTTE.
