  • man love this song pisses me off when people like death metal and say this shit sucks that bull LISTEN TO THE LYRICS!!

  • Some people are arguing about the meaning of the song? O_o Lemme spell it out for you:

The main singer said that it ultimately concerns school shootings. Yes, there is talk of war and the horrors within it - that is part of the song - but it all builds up to the shooting at the end. The shooter has been mentally scarred and tortured by the things he's seen in war ("bang bang it hammers in my head"), and decides to shoot up a classroom.

  • @TheSecretEye sweet.

  • @DarkpoolFantasy rock, rock rock

  • The Offspring

26 years of awesome, going strong.

  • I think this album is a return to form. What do people expect!

  • Far from being the best song of Offspring though.

  • Actually, after reading the most recent comments, both this and YGGFK could be about that, just from a different perspective. This, from the perspective of a SWAT member, perhaps.

@amagous "He's picking off the gunman through a room full of hostages. " the line "Take this life that others may live...." supports that theory as well.

I'll just chalk it up to 'can be interpreted in multiple ways'

  • @Nazuiko YaY for someone pointing out the obvious that surprisingly none of us saw lol. Everyone has there own opinion, and all of them have facts supporting their theory :P

  • Comment removed

  • While it might seem to be an anti-war song, doing some minor research and reading through the lyrics shows that The Offspring wrote it as a song from the perspective of a school shooter. "I'll take a life, ten other's may live" isn't about war, it's about the randomness and misguided violence of a school shooter. The music video portrays it that way, but the music video was created by a fan in a contest by the Offspring and doesn't reflect the lyrics of the song.

  • @slaphappy497 The offspring obviously wouldn't pick a music video that didn't reflect what the song was supposed to portray moron. Its a song about war, not school shootings. "I'm just doing what I'm told." School shooters aren't told what to do, soldiers are. "Through this doorway, whats on the other side. Never knowing, exactly what I'll find." A kid is almost always sure of whats on the other side of a door, soldiers never have any idea. Bombs, drugs, "bad guys", etc.

  • @amagous And you can all hide behind your desks now!

And you can cry "teacher come help me!"

Through you all, my aim's true!

    My aim's true!

    My aim's true..

  • @SNaRF66666666 You obviously have little to no grasp on how many hostage situations such as that soldier's in Afghanistan have had to deal with. "My aim is true" He's picking off the gunman through a room full of hostages.

  • @amagous actually i looked up the meaning of the song when i posted that it is intened as a school shooting , where the shooter has the mentality of a soldier.....also i served in the us army OIF 3rd inf.

  • @SNaRF66666666 It doesn't matter. US army, believe it or not, invest on games about war, because those very games makes teenages believe that killing It's a good thing, so they can gather more recruits in the future. So a teen with the mind of a soldier is still a soldier.

  • @nitramdh so name 1 school shooting that waas a result of America Army. a kid shooting up a school is not b/c of video games its from social problems...most are regected, neglected and pussies who can handle life. You are just gonna keep running in circles blaming anything you can.

  • @nitramdh - A soldier has discipline. Ask any soldier, sailor, or Marine and they'll tell you that they spent more time cleaning and marching in boot camp than they did with shooting anything. It's about discipline, not about killing.

    -

A teen with the mind of a soldier is the 19-year-old who's overseas right now, doing everything in this song but the last verse, and kinda offended at it.

    -

The juxtaposition doesn't work when you break it down. Both use violence - one for good, one for evil.

  • @3055DOG Good and evil are very subjective terms.

  • @nitramdh That's a very broad generalization about teenagers who play in games about war. I play violent war video games and I would never join the military nor do I consider myself a soldier of any type. It's fantasy and a cathartic experience. Also, while it is true that the military uses these games as a tool to recruit it doesn't mean all people who play them are soldiers.

  • @rattlehead9127 good point mate though you do realise that most people who play these war games don't even know how to ammo check most weapons in 3-4 secs. then you got people like the Canadian cadets who don't even know what hand to use to hold the gun etc. (Canadians are against violence of any kind)

  • @amagous Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure Dexter was referring to "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" when he said that, and the poster was mistaken.

  • @amagous erm I think the same thing about this song then you

anyway a song can be interpreted in many way and I don't think you should insult people for what they think!

    thats actually how war start...

  • What a great Anti-War song. It's hillarious to see all the morons thinking it is some sort of Pro-Death Pro-War song.

It's basically saying that SCHOOL SHOOTINGS ARE MORE JUSTIFIED than the so called Wars we fight. Just corporate Oil Grabs.

  • worst quality ever o_O

  • This song is my shit!

  • They've released much better albums. This album is not even near the other ones.

  • *Not saying your wrong, poster*

While there is the obvious mention of a schoolbuilding being shot, i figured that it was a G.I. who was ordered to shoot up an (presumably) Iraqi/Afghan school or something to that extent.

Just has too much of a military feel to it, though....

Just personal opinion. Feel free to flame, troll, downvote, and mark as spam if you so choose. or the opposite. dont care.

LEast favorite song on my least favorite album and this song STILL ROXX SOXX!!!

  • @Nazuiko Nah, I agree Nazuiko. Listen to the lyrics "I'll take a life so others may live." "I'll fight to keep my people from harm" etc etc. Straight up, its a song about a soldier, not about school shootings.

  • i wish they played more songs like this, and more classic rock, instead of the new age bullshit, like rap, and hip-hop. these teen singers stink at singing. johnas bros., hannah montanna, justin bieber, laydy gaga, pink, madonna, pretty much all terrible. now each album is a 1 hit wonder, back in the 80s almost every album was a total hit. and i am 13, a friend of mine got me in to classic rock, the first time i heard it, i loved it. anyway OFFSPRING 4EVER.

    any

  • @promethiusnbob pink , madonna , id leave those out of ur list ... :P

  • Holy crap... I can't believe that this pure art got only 916 502 during Lady Caca has about 120 000 000... In this moment, world is a shame! I'm desperately waiting for change! Who's with me?

  • sumtimes its gud for a band have the same sound especialy if the new sound sucks. cuz there are sum bands i was a real big fan of but thn lik two albums later they suck cuz they wanted to "branch out"

  • Bullshit this song is about a school shooting. He wrote it about soldiers, then later said it was about a school shooting to seem edgy.

  • @thescariestbear then how do u explain the part about hiding behind ur desk and saying teacher come help me i doubt a soldier wood do tht

  • yeah though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i fear no evil fort thou art with me :D coolest lyrics ever!

  • @justinlawesome try reading the bible...

  • @EricTough though I go through the valley of death I fear no evil for I am at 40,000 feet and climbing a quote from an SR-71 blackbird pilot

  • @zetagundam12 Thats pretty sweet actually.

  • @zetagundam12 - heh. Good one.

  • @EricTough y should he reaad the bible?

  • @EricTough hihi actually bible is a book of metaphor and symbols people need to think to read ans understand it

do you really think a kid like this one could do this ? I have some doubts

though i thumps up your comment ^^

  • @justinlawesome From pulp fiction, but yeah, they are awesome.

  • @Nazuiko it was the bible, its just that samuel l. jackson was reciting it

  • @justinlawesome Its a verse

  • @justinlawesome psalms 23-4

  • And to everyone confused about what this song means, It is pertaining to Violence. It's a bit of War and School shooting but the vibe here is Violence, and just fyi people who think they copied Nirvana is wrong. I listened to both parts real close and they sound WAY different. ty =] Offspring kicks ass btw, loved them since the beginning.

  • A Great Anti-War song!

  • @InsaneGoonRules This is not an anti war song, it is about a school shooting

  • @unclesoftouch it's kind of both, i guess

  • @InsaneGoonRules Are you mentally retarded?

  • 95 people missed the like button

  • the only masterpiece of rise and fall... the rest is just alt rock and other shits and that sucks, well trust in you is punk too but not as good as this one

  • The first verse sounds like a U.S. Marine's point of view, the second a resistance fighter's, and the third a high school shooter's. But that's my opinion.

  • And they're STILL making good songs. Unlike most bands.

    *Cough**Cough*Greenday*Cough*Blink182*cough**cough*Metallica*Cough*

  • @ASKAJAIMES The reason the Offspring still make 'good' songs is because they never do anything different. They've been playing pretty much the same one song for about 20 years. At least Green Day and Metallica tried to branch out rather than just make the same music over and over again.

  • @dannystringer3491 ummm... The Offspring tried to branch out but people like their old stuff, Green Day started to fail after American Idiot. The Offspring's first 3 CD's were straight up punk, then they switched to Alt Rock with Conspiracy of One and Americana and then in Splinter they used a bit of some Techno in their rock. They tried to branch out but we loved their old stuff so they're sticking with what fans like to remain awesomesauce =]

  • @ethanrodgers Ya, and I think rise against is one of the few that actually made it this far

  • the beginning sounds like the mortal kombat theme song

  • Just to let you guys know, the Lyrics are from the perspective of a school shooter,

"According to singer/guitarist Dexter Holland, the lyrics are from the perspective of a gunman in a school shooting.[4] This is supported by the closing lyrics "and you can all hide behind your desks now/and you can cry teacher come help me"" -Wikipedia

  • if the first thing you care about in a song is how deep, touching and emotional the lyrics are, ummmmm ur in the wrong genre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what the fuck is wrong with you people. the instrumentals are awesome it get you pumped who cares about the lyrics, they're good enough for a punk rock song. how can you be that picky its the fucking offspring. they kick ass

  • nice song!!!

    thumbs up,

but the lyricis aren't the best.

  • Great anti-war song! Bravo!

  • This song smells like "Ace of Spades" in the verse part.

  • WORLD PREMIERE

  • vietnam iraq. all american wars are in vain. seriously americans stop supporting obama and the other fuckers , all controlled by the banks. stop killing your youth for wallstreet and goldman sach's

  • there's a part in this song where it sounds like stay away form nirvana

  • Its hard to think of troops not being supported in their homeland. As a Canadian i support both the troops of our nation and our long time allies, America.

  • sounds like ace of spades xO

  • Anyone can tell them to come to The Netherlands :-)))))))

    They are Amazing!!!

  • It's just a song, why do people have to over complicate it looking for hidden meanings? Watch the southpark episode of Scrotty McBoogerballs.

  • One of the very few bands that are all american, but not because they're white but because they get it. Support your american heros, they pay the ultimate price, fuck pride they have honor............ they give our country freedom.

  • @cgquintanilla They do fight but not all of ours wars are neccesary, so thus its dying in vain.

  • oh.. The holy army of the united states! xP

  • Yeah, I know. Can you here me laughin? No? Cause I'm not. The only reason we enjoy the being able to have this discussion, is cause of our military personal who gave they're life and who missed their family maturing because of a cowerdly terrorist or a dear John or Jane letter. Happy Memorial Day, Enjoy it. Wait for it... wait for it.. That's me laughing. Wait..oh yeah... I'm not. Enjoy your three day weekend.

  • They kind of mislead you with this song. 99% of it seems to be talking about war and the military until the end where its a school shooting. I dont understand how or even why it turns from war to a school shooting. Maybe they are trying to make a correlation between a soldiers mindset and a crazy ass kid with a psychological problem and a gun. Which is the dumbest thing ive ever seen....
