  • One major flaw, in my opinion, in an otherwise great series... Andy bleeding Kaufman. WHAT was he there for?

  • @arbutus27 He was sweet. I liked him in the series. Jim Carrey in Man on the Moon was HORRIBLE though. Thank God REM made up for the crap with a cool song

  • @Jesrama1 Okay, each to his own and all that. He just never did it for me. I felt he was put in as "the stoopid foreigner".

  • It's great to live in the City!!!!

  • thought i remember everyone in this show, but who was "randall carver"? LOL

  • Tic-a-tic-a-tic-a-tic-a-shhhh

  • "G' Nite Mr Walters!"

    "Uh uhh!"

  • This theme song is so damn relaxing to me. I could fall asleep to it.

  • The opening theme is so brilliant! One of the first examples of jazz-fusion,love it.

  • love this show so much, reminds me of when i was waaaay young !

  • One of the best shows ever.....

  • I Used To Watch This Show All The Time When I Was A Teenager. Only If I Can Go Back In Time.

  • always a cool theme song.

  • great ensemble-so, much fun----

  • RIP Jeff Conaway

  • @joejoewest Hes dead? What happened?

  • @Ratcaller Jeff died over the spring at age 60. He battled drug and alcohol problems for a long time.

  • @joejoewest Oh thats sad...

Do you have idea where I can find season 2?....

  • sit back relax - Bizzy bone....what? lol

  • CHRISTOPHER LLOYD MADE THIS SHOW THE SUCCESS THAT IT WAS.

  • theme always makes me think of Alex . Guy was so soulful and kind of melancholy at the same time. He was the only one who knew he was always going to be a cab driver and was not just "doing this" until something better came along. Of all theme songs on TV this has to be my favorite. Stuff like modern family today is good but can't touch these classic TV shows like Taxi.

  • Nice...nice.

  • souls of mischief sampled thsi beautifully

  • Oh, and the best episode... Jims driving test.

"any drug addictions or mental illness?"

    "aaaaaaa that's a tough choice!"

    "whaaaat...........doooeeeesssss....... The yelllllloooooowwww......"

  • For you guys who referenced this show and bedtime, I so associate this song with that wonderful time of late may/ early June when school was about to let out. It was light longer and mom wasn't quite as rigid with bedtime... I was able to catch an episode and felt cooler. The smooth relaxing tones of this theme take me back to those innocent days when the first warm evening breezes blow. Well taking my mental time machine back to reality now.

  • @senordumas For me, it takes me back to the early days of summer, going shopping downtown with my Mom on the bus, and always coming home with some new goodies :)

Those days were precious, and I'm glad this theme is a part of that.

  • best show on TV, past ,present or future.

  • best theme song ever? gotta be... well maybe this and Magnum PI

  • fookin ell, do I feel old!

  • check out cab fare by souls of mischieft.

    they sample this theme song

  • What a great song! It totally captures the essence of plot, theme, and characters. I can't imagine it fitting anything else. Thanks for posting such a clean version!

  • Ah man, I live that Fender Rhodes keyboard in the background

  • Does anyone know if that episode is posted, when Bobby got the soap opera and he quit the cab company in blazes and told Louie off...but then Bobby's character was killed off and Bobby had to ask for his job back? The way Alex told Louie not to be mean to Bobby because "it wasn't right"? Christ that was funny, especially the way Louie said: "Reiger, I'm gonna let Wheeler have it because he's a LOSER!" (and then he starts chanting): "He's a loser! He's a loser! Nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh!"

  • @RichHartley19671 That was my favourite episode of the entire series.

  • I used to LOVE THIS BEAT!!! Even as a child watching "nick at night" I realized this was an awesome track!!! Respect to bob James!!

  • This was one of those shows that produced many a hilarious moment jump started the carrers of Danny DeVito, Tony Danza, very easily wouldve been great if Andy Kaufman lived because he wouldve been something special too!

  • Omg I feel 10 again!!

  • THE.BEST.TV.THEME.MUSIC

    EVER

    EVER

    EVER

  • THIS MUTHA FUCK SO HARD! I WOULD BATTLE WAYNE ON THIS TRACK AND HOLD NOTHIN BACK!

  • New York was cool as fuck in the 70s. I wish I could've experienced it. Regardless, I always loved the Taxi theme as a kid. Sort of relaxing in its own way.

  • @wysoft There were some cool things about it back then, like the Yanks' version of the "Bronx Zoo", Studio 54, etc., but overall it was an absolute HELLHOLE utterly infested with crime & filth! Grew up on Wrong Island and visited often so I know. Son of Sam was pretty much just the tip of the iceberg. Granted it was a VASTLY better time to be alive than today, but '70s NYC has been glamorized quite a bit beyond what it actually was.

  • Is there a version of this song that sounds like this? anywhere?

  • Cool.....Bob James theme tune

  • too young to really remember the show, but always remembered the theme song... LOVE IT- brings back so much memeories... Very relaxing!!!

  • Wow... just listening a few seconds took me way back. I hated when this show would come on because when this show came on it was always time to go to bed. 32 years ago? Really? Oh to have the stresses of a ten year old again.

  • @jackie287 You had had a great post on bedtime. Took me back. Thanks. I'll be smiling all day.

  • Wow... just listening a few seconds took me way back. I hated when this show would come on because when this show came on it was always time to go to bed. 32 years ago? Really? Oh to have the stresses of a ten year old again.

  • Aw man that took me back!!

  • Sank you wery much.

  • . . . Damn, how I used to love those opening credits/theme music. Helped put me to sleep, lol. ;-)

  • race*sorry

  • i love this theme. love the ending too. so mellow.

  • Latka Ruled!

  • @sergiomalave ANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • COOL TRIVIA: They didn't have enough film for the intro so at the 0:31 mark, you'll see the film restart.

  • I mean the 0:13 mark.

  • i love this show i miss seeeing it! love the song for it.Christopher Lloyd was super funny in it!

  • Who was the guy that used to answer the pnone with a mix of a grunt and " yeah!??!" LoL

  • Are you talking about the Reverend Jim Ignatowski played by Christopher Lloyd ?

  • you guys dont even know how hard it was to find this song. its been stuck in my head all day and i didnt know what show it was from. so i had to go threw ALL OF THE 70'S AND 80'S shows to find this tune.

    true story.

  • Can't believe Taxi is 32 years old.

  • @Ampsta09 I can

  • @Ampsta09 Can't believe they don't make good TV like this like they used to it's all talk shows crime shows (old ones were better) court shows Reality Shows. I miss the good ol fashion sitcoms sucked the show didn't go on into 84 would have been cool but then again seeing Tony Danza a year later on Who's The Boss made up for it

  • I have the full recording of this sublime Bob James composition on CD somewhere but for some reason it's just not as fantastically funky as the TV cut.

The small intro vamps were often as good as the opening theme. I'm talking about the music played when the camera panned outside of the Sunshine Cab Co (Hudson St in Manhattan, now apartments) and into the set, usually as Jeff Conaway strutted across the garage in his flared jeans. Funky beats indeed.

    Marilu Henner is a BABE.

  • RIP Andy

  • love the song.for some reason ever since i was a kid this song makes me so damn sad,i can feel the sadness in my stomach. crazy!

  • yeah itz crazy..it so beatyfull..it makes me sad

  • SOULS OF MISCHIEF - Cabfare :D

  • Louie DePalma is THE MAN !!!

  • i agree !

  • "What does the yellow light mean?" Any professional actors out there who can explain to me how the cast of TAXI managed to keep from cracking up during that scene will be helping me to understand one of the great mysteries of acting. Is it concentration? Some sort of psychological sublimation? An example of the Method in action? Please respond, and thanks!

  • @goback3spaces SLOW DOWN!!!!That episode was a gut buster!!!Remember that one like it was yesterday!!LOL!!

  • Televison comedy didn't improve in the late 1970s and 80s. "Taxi" is a good example of this development. It can't compete with "All in the Family" or "Maude". I was so happy to discover the great comedies from the 70s after a childhood filled with too many episodes of "Taxi", "The Cosby Show", "Family Ties" and "Growing Pains in the XXX"

  • I agree for the most part...I wouldn't put taxi in that list though. Taxi was a pretty sophisticated and hilarious comedy.

  • i loved this show so much :-)

  • look closely and you can see the same ten seconds edited and repeated at least 4 times during the entire opening sequence.

  • As someone who was born in 1987, I have to thank my mother for turning me on to shows like Taxi, especially considering the crap that reigns supreme on TV today

  • this song

reminds me of staying up late.

  • My favorite episode was when Reverend Jim bangs his head on the soda machine outside of Louis' cage at the beginning of the show, but doesn't feel the pain of impact until the end of the show (3 days later in "show" time). What a hoot!

  • Bob James Rolezz...

  • Fact: Tony Danza drove this taxi over the Bridge for the original opening theme song

  • Another fact: the name of the theme song is called "Angela." I know, as I have the piano version of it.

  • the 70's had some good TV themes. not bad for the "me generation"

  • Yo CHeck out Cab Fare by Souls of Mischief.

  • woooo!

  • One of my favourite programmes. I remember coming in late and catchin this before bed! Great memories. Great tune too by Bob James!!

  • this could be music in a porn and no one would know the difference

  • Listen, someone's got to say it - the bumper titles at the beginning and the end of this are just -painful-, and and on top of that, the beginning of the theme is cut off.

  • How come Judd Hirsch isn't in the credits?

  • DominoRyder- Judd's name appears before the TAXI logo. Whoever posted chopped off his name.

  • ahhh the 70's... To bad I was born in 87

  • then u shud go kill urself

  • this show came out when i was 2 this show has one best theme song ever

  • What a wonderful tv show!!!

If they made a true to life version today all the actors would have to be asian and have no english.

Please don't be offended, it's just true. I know. I'm a New Yorker.

  • @Mahocky Everyone in America is a foreigner & speaks a foreign language apart from Native Americans

  • @Mahocky more like indian, and no offence as well, its the truth,i live in philly and am one miniscule molacule pakastani,u would never even guess so i have no right defending or offending a whole rase of people, but yeah most cab drivers i see are indian;dots not feathers,im also 23 so i know nothing according to everyone in the civilized world so bring on the retarded angry responses,i really enjoy them so make em good bitch

  • @Mahocky Last time I took a taxi in nyc the driver was ukrainian and couldn't find his way round I had to direct him all the way.

  • @Mahocky No offense.

  • @Mahocky That's not necessarily true, Mahocky, and shame on you for making such a broad generalization. Maybe in New York they would be all Asian but here in San Francisco, there is quite a mixture of asian, arab, caucasion and black. I wouldn't say one ethnicity clearly dominates.

  • @Mahocky Asian?? Indian/african maybe

  • I always loved Danny DeVito and his role as Louie in Taxi, great opening theme too. =D

  • Wow--took me back 30+ years to high school for sure. Sitting in my mom's living room watching this show with my girlfriend.

Is this a Bob James tune?

  • for uploading this video....tank you veddy much!

  • This was a fantastic show. I loved Danny Devito in it.

  • Great Song!!

  • I've driven across this bridge before!

  • which bridge is that?

  • Queensboro Bridge a.k.a. 59th Street Bridge.

  • This theme tune gave me goose bumps hearing it after all these years!

Great memories watching this as a young teen in the 70's...Cool!

  • My favorite t.v. show ever !!!!

  • Thanks for this link! Couldn't get this song out of my head for the last few weeks and finally visualized the "driving over the bridge" scene to figure out it was Taxi!

  • i used to be able to catch the last twenty minutes of this show when i was at work for the world trade center 34 years ago doing janitorial we would have a cigarette and coffee unwind i always felt like i could take on another shift i was so refreshed afterward but 9 hours was my max workday

  • wow, what a cast

  • Why are there so many clips of the theme and no clips of the show?

  • Randall Carver got the chop to make way for the hilarious Chritopher Llyod.

  • The $5 question... Whats the name of the song being played in the background?

  • "Angela" by: Bob James. now wheres my five bucks?

  • God only knows why this song can bring a tear to my drunken eye.

    Fabulous theme tune.

  • Yeah... it's just one of those mysteries of life ... great theme tune ... maybe made greater by the nostalgic feeling to those of us who were kids when this aired in the late 70's!

  • Gosh, this takes me back. Now get back to work!

  • what is the of the song??

  • "Angela's Theme" by Bob James

  • This was when NYC was cool and dangerous and 'street'.I caught the tail end of this vibe going to the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade every year with my father in the late 70's/80's.

  • that's funny but soo true. lol

  • tony danza is driving that cab

    the highlight of his career

  • What a toon ! Great night time driving music. Dont remember the tv show that well,it wasnt that popular in the uk.

I must admit to humming the toon during my 1st visit to NYC when travelling in a yelow cab.

  • the smoothest tv theme ever! BIG UPS BOB JAMES

  • thank you for posting this

  • I love this song to death i listen to it ever night its the bomb.

  • wow,i loved thiz song..

  • Mine too.
