This was the first "new" Phish album I bought way back in '96. Of course, I was in my dorm room, tokin' a doob for probably only the 10th time. Those were the days. This song has one of the most sincere and serious feels of any Phish song to me. Trey's solo pretty much makes me weep every time. This was truly Phish's heyday, and probably the best album produced. Not necessarily my favorite album though. Junta and Rift definitely have this one beat.
I usually never buy cd's anymore but last week i was with my buddy and we walked into an old record store. as i browsed the countless cd's "Billy Speaks" fell onto the floor. I picked it up and looked at it. Im very glad that i got my money's worth. This is going to be my first of many Phish records
This song always gives me chills. The layering of the vocals in the chorus is beautiful beyond words. (If you've never listened w/ quality, noise cancelling ear phones do it now:)
Phish can be quite hard to accept by ears ruined by years of pummeling by commercial music. I've only heard these people gush about this song. Perfect ballad by the perfect band.
I remember covering this live on acoustic with a bass player buddy of mine, or at least try to... The solo at the end is just gorgeous, going through all those key changes. My fave albums are probably Rift, Picture of Nectar, A Live One and Billy Breathes.
all of their songs are good well most, really depends on your mood and what your feeling like listening to, all of their work is enjoyable one time or another even if it takes a long time to ease in to your head they'll get stuck one time or another.
This is the song that basically got me "hooked" on Phish. haha true story though this has gotta be one of, if not my absolute favorites by them, no doubt.

the coda sounds like a use your illusion outtake at the beginning...then it's like somebody scat singing over a power ballad....trey could have done much better (negative posters - this was near the end of my touring days..and yours?)
this song makes me love deeply and reflect

Set this album cover next to the cover for King Crimson's "In the Court of the Crimson King". The Crimson King is terrified of Billy.

It's tough to pick one. I love Picture of Nectar.
It's easy to pick the worst, at least in my mind, The Story of the Ghost.

@Monty1994 uh uh, im not being a jerk, just good conversation. but story of a ghost is kinda up there with the best

I love how they try to tackle singing " in the round" so imaginative , yet so damn corny, in that Phish good way!
