I used to have a male cockatiel that we got second hand from a friend of my mom's, by the name of Harlie. He would whistle a cavalry charge, call the dogs, a part of the andy griffith theme, and would say, among other things "pretty boy harlie" "here kitty, kitty" "gimme kiss", and would laugh like a fool if you said the latter to him.

He died a few years ago, and I miss his company a lot, for he was a good co-pilot when I would sit down to work on my computer, and was a good companion for me.

At first glimps it looks cute. But it isn't. The Bird desperetly sings for a girlfriend. It's normal behaviour in free nature for the cockatiel to impress the ladybird by singing better and louder than other males. It only shows that your little fellow needs a a friend of his own kind. In switzlerland, keeping a cockatiel alone without a mate is illegal.

@pikapikarya How do you tame them? The constant screeching is getting on my nerves... what I need is to train them how to be quiet once in a while!

Is there a way to do that? We have two: one nice one, and then the other (bad) one we inherited from my wifes mom - that one is a psychoMONSTER and never stops screeching - we keep them in seperate cages because the bad one is a bully.

I want to get rid of it, but my wife doesn't because ot was her mom's bird. Any ideas?

I've 3 cockatiel's that are full blood bro's. My eldest Kruger who's 6 mths loves watching this clip. He's been watching it since he was 2 mths old and can imitate Nanners near perfectly. But he does a head nod and sneeze instead of the clap. He's always singing it to his little brothers Freddy and Skeksi who are 3 mths old and they've now started singing it too. Their favourite's are "If your happy and you know it" and whatcha doing. I officially have a cockatiel choir now thanks to Nanners :-)
