i used to be a vegetarian in the 90's, drank soy milk, ate alot of textered veg protein burgers, bought fat free and low fat foods, believed soy bean oil (called veggie oil) was the best, ate tofu, hated dark greens, ate lots of iceburg lettice salads, by 1998 i got very weak & pale and depressed & fat, today i avoid all soy, gmo corn & canola oils and processed foods, eat grassfed meats, use coconut oil & real butter, green smoothies, nut, seeds, friut, eggs,no white flour, i am 46, got muscles
im a natural bodybuilder and i avoid soy anyway, because of all that i have heard about its estrogen properties that can cause what is refereed to as "bitch tits" in men aka gynecosmastia, which is how i think tis spelled anyway lol
soy diet is definitely is new to west cultures, plus now its one of the genetically modified product. if you look closely in ingredients list of ANY processed food it DOES contain SOY!!! - moms - BREASTFEED ur babies if you can!!! Eat healthy! Fruits and veggies, stay away from processed foods. Learn to cook yourself.
@Shaherezada, that is so true, the only problem with that is that even some of the fruits and veggies are modified today... how can you differentiate???
google "Soy Dangers! Estrogen" (without the " ") the first and forth hits give some desturbing info. I don't know who to trust, but the mainstream media has lost my faith a long time ago.
a smaller sperm count, smaller libido, bumps around your nipples... I like my libido and I don't like to turn into a female. soy mimics estrogen. 100 grams soy equals 1 birth control pill!
soy wasn't a food 10 years ago, so why would it be now? I hate the profit driven industry so much!
when i stopped breasting feeding after a year i put my daughter on rice milk and goat milk. then my mother in law who i lived with at the time and who works in the medical field told me to switch her to soy milk like the doctor said. when i did she had terrible gas and cried with a swollen tummy :(
I've been eating soy periodicially for probably five years now, and am completely fine. It might have killed my libido, yes; but being autistic means that that has never caused me anything but misery anywayz. I was honestly glad to see it go.
I am writing an essay on soy, I need to balance it with negatives and positives, there are plenty of claims on either side. Just finished the anti-soy part...now I am searching for the positive. Guess what, as yet I have found NO studies which support the benefits, many claims but not actual research. It was easy to find references against.
I was a vegetarian for 16 years and ate tons of soy over that time. I quit eating soy 2 years ago, and now I am battling to get my sister (that has just started eating mostly vegetarian) to stop eating soy. I wish there were more attention given to this information. People still think that soy is a healthy source of protein.
my wife drank soy milk while pregnant with our first child, and she (our first child) has congenital hypothyroidism. Has anyone else heard of a possible connection?
My memory power greatly reduced after eating soy products because I thought it could provide a good source of protein and other benefits. I stopped eating soy and my learning abilities greatly increased again. It was very scary. I will never eat soy again for proteins. Since I am a vegetarian and cannot find other sources of proteins, I have finally converted to eating meat for my proteins.
soy foods are highly dangerious, dont be lied to.i been tested for tyroid problems and other things, i dont have any problems like that how ever soy food is highly dangerious, i had soy on its own and my tharot went swollen, face went puffed up, i had breathing problems and ended up in hospital. so called experts say, soy is good? but answer thease question?
If you are looking for alternatives, oat milk is easily made and ridiculously cheap. You could also make it from wheat, spelt or rye. It's always a matter of steeping the flakes overnight, boiling and blending up. As for soy milk, I ferment it with kefir grains from time to time. It gives me a lot of energy.
i was born premature and my mother never gave into soy formula, she never fed me soy and only fed me real food. I developed perfectly, agianst all odds.
since ive banned all soy in my diet, ive just plain felt better.
Yeah a couple of years ago when started paying attention to soy, I read about some of these problems and others. Although I still consume soy products I in no way view it as a magic health food.
Newton may have been onto something greater than physics when he said "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction" meaning every food with health benefits also has its drawbacks
anything in life can have a drawback as well as a plus. he was talking about a scientific understanding of reaction and action. he wasn't the first genius to realize this. humans have known this for thousands of years.
I am a user of soy milk and tofu. However, after receiving this information along with another bit of news today, I am going to look for alternatives.
totally insane. Drs are always advising switching to soy for various reasons; Drs, in general, don't know shit about anything...only what they are told by pharma

Soy was used as 'feed stock' for farm animals prior WW2. The farmers stopped
using soy, it was not benefical for the
animals.
Nutritions can never make up their mind
and often make statements before they
have been proven. First fat is bad, then
we find it is good. Vegetable oil as opposed to animal fat.
As a vegetarian I have been down the
soy 'route' and I found it lacking.

I feel much better avoiding soy, wheat gluten, high fructose corn syrup, and trans fat as a 26-year-old male. Soy totally throws my hormones off.
And mothers should breastfeed! The best advice is to avoid formula.
