thanks for putting these up man. it's good to hear that my parents weren't lying when they said that surin people are really Khmer. the whole martial arts Odyssey is great bro. just ignore people who hate.
@setsallset You are. You make yourself and your race look pretty stupid by ranting, attacking and arguing from a position of no knowledge. once again, i live in cambodia and you are welcome any time to my home or to my training to discuss proper pronunciation or how i dont know anything about cambodia.
@brooklynmonk1 You are delusional. It is you who are destroying Cambodia. You and all the whities that vacation there. I know it's a big tourist attraction. Those 12 year old girls are a commodity for you sick people. Ohh yea, the training is good too. A friend of mines sponsored one via marriage. He got paid good money. Just because you're there, don't think you are "khmer" as you call it. You're just another saw. BTW, my friend lost 40 lbs just from the diet. You're training and still fat? Sad
@setsallset I put together the first ever Cambodian MMA team and we fought in Malaysia. now, i am arranging our next fight. The Cambodian Olympic committee approached me about helping to set up MMA fights on TV in Cambodia, which i am going to do for free, to help the country.
@brooklynmonk1 I fuck white girls for free to help them in America. Don't see me tooting my own horn about it. I picked up litter down the street. Give me a noble prize. I don't give a fuck what you do. Do you care that I wipe my ass after I shit? Fag.
@setsallset whay are you such a horrible human being? You do nothing for cambodia and nothing for America. Seriously, analyze your life and decide what sort of legacy you want to leave behind. Instead of more insults and profanity approach this as as serious subject because your life is ending every minute you and I, all of us, are closer to death. what do you want to be known for? What do you want to be remembered for?
@setsallset i think it's sad too that i have trouble losing weight. fortunately i am still i absolutely phenomenal cardio and strength shape for fighting. I have asked several times, but do you fight? Also have you ever lived in cambodia?
@setsallset I have never lived in Antarctica, but I also dont profess to be an expert on Antarctica. originally, our argument was focused on cambodia and Thailand. and you seem never to have lived in either of those two countries or do have done research or field work or to speak Thai or to have done an actual academic study of Khmer.
@setsallset Actually, tourism is the single most important private sector employment and represents almost 70% of the country's total income, apart from foreign aid. So, if you ended tourism the country would be much worse off. Next, i have explained that i dont vacation in cambodia, i work there.
@brooklynmonk1 I already told you my name. Antonio Graceffo. Old, fat, balding, and I have a superiority complex. I also like to call strangers terrible human beings. I try to peddle my shitty DVD because I believe people will stroke my ego. Of course people will want to know about MY life, MY legacy. Why wouldn't they? I am conceited. I am special. I am a typical whitey.
@setsallset Come on, man, after all of the insults, I am still offering you legitimate help. if you review your posts and mine, you will see that yours are riddled with ill-lodgic, profanity and ungrounded personal attacks. You clearly have some anger and some issues about Whitey, so why stay in America? Come to Cambodia, do something positive to help your help your people. Learn to be good. Help others. And if you still hate me, you can attack me in cambodia.
@brooklynmonk1 Actually, I prefer white women. Silly, I know but I'm not old and don't need viagra yet so might as well enjoy it here. Learn to be good? Are you saying that I am "bad"? Why? :)
@setsallset Look at all of the horrible things you said. and when i asked you what good you have done for others, you listed masturbating, watching porn and something about my mother. You sound very disturbed. But, again, by helping others sometimes you help yourself. why are you so against doing some good for cambodia? do you hate your country so much?
@brooklynmonk1 I'm doing my part here. Don't worry crybaby. Your mother was not affected by my comments. I'm doing a service to both countries. I love both of them :) Are you gay? Since when did you first experienced anal sex from a ladyboy? Assumptions suck don't it?
@setsallset when i asked you what good works you were doing you listed watching porn videos and sex with white women. so it was not an assumption on my part that you are doing nothing. Although i did assume that, you also confirmed it. Once again, read the horrible language, profanity and hatred in your writing. How is it not clear to you that you are horribly disturbed and by extrapolation, most likely not well-educated or economically sound? You seem to have a real obsession with ladyboys.
@brooklynmonk1 technically, I never said anything about watching porn. Masturbating to you mom is not the same, unless you are saying she has done porn... Anyways, I think we both can see understand the health benefits of sex, and yes, I am a very giving lover. So therefore, I am helping others... No hatred here, just love. What is so disturbing about that? are you a faggot?
@setsallset I have no idea why you are so screwed up but seriously you said so many awful things and I would have to believe that you know they are awful. but I still dont understand why? Seriously, what is your issue with me? what have I done to you? And, why do you refuse to help cambodia? And why don't you better yourself rather than try to take others down. which, of course, you can't. by writing insults to me you wont destroy me, stop me or swing others to your side.
@brooklynmonk1 My stupid, confused friend! I am helping Cambodia HERE! We are all doing our parts. Did you not read my last comment? I am doing a fine job representing Cambodian men for the white women here. What part of that don't you understand? For an ESL teacher, you sure have a hard time understanding basic English. Who is trying to destroy you? Look in the mirror. Please, do not flatter yourself.... Please. LOL. Hey man, why are you so sensitive? Did someone touch you when you were young?
@setsallset As you know, I am antonio graceffo. I am curious
1. what is your real name?
2. have you ever lived in cambodia?
3. are you a fighter, if so, where do you fight?
4. what do you do to help promote cambodia?
5. If i quit, as you have suggested i should, will you come and take over with the MMA team so it doesn't die?
6. Why would you accuse me of child sex and something about ladyboys? is it because I spelled khmer with an "r" on the end? Is that the mark of a known sex offender?
@brooklynmonk1 LMFAO!!! You're fucking hilarious! You think I'm gonna answer your questions? Woooooow. You are full of yourself. You are not entitle to anything. You forgot to say "please."
5. If i quit, as you have suggested i should, will you come and take over with the MMA team so it doesn't die?
6. Why would you accuse me of child sex and something about ladyboys? is it because I spelled khmer with an "r" on the end? Is that the mark of a known sex offender?
@brooklynmonk1 And if you want to bring up pronunciation again. Go to the video I link earlier and comment on it. Tell the man he is saying it wrong. Point to your CIA fag book... I mean fact book.
@setsallset I never claimed that the foreigner in the video mispronounced anything. if you mistakenly typed IA fag book and then corrected yourself, CIA Fact Book, why didnt you erase the previous, wrong word?
@setsallset I am curious, this argument stems from the fact that you, and only you, of all cambodians on the planet, feels offended when he is called Khmer and you said that i shouldnt call you that or that we shouldnt spell Khmer with an "r" on the end. From that, you have accused me of steeling money from the cambodian MMA team and of hanging out with ladyboys and now with child sex. Just curious, but do all of the insults actually seem warranted to you?
@setsallset You have admitted, by omission, that you do nothing to help cambodia. I have written extensively and made TV shows, videos, movies... to help promote cambodia. I even did an adventure tourism video for the leading tour company for free, just to help promote cambodia. What exactly have you done fro cambodia? And if i quit my post with the MMA team, are you willing to take over?
@brooklynmonk1 you have admitted, by omission, that you do nothing to help ME. I have done lots of selfish things to help myself. I have masturbated to your mom, watched porn. I've even helped you out by watching your videos and replying to your comments. Thank me.
@setsallset I think we are done here. this no longer a discussion of the proper spelling and pronunciation of the word Khmer. It is now simply a very strange and gross attack on me which I absolutely fail to understand. I live in Phnom Penh. You know where I train. I am happy to meet you face-to-face. but if you are a typical khmerican gangbanger in Long Beach you probably dont have a passport or the money to buy a plane ticket.
@brooklynmonk1 aww I thought we were friends. :( LOL. Now you're calling me poor? What's that suppose to be? Another appeals to authority? I don't care how much/little money you make. You are suppose to be educated. How did you fail to understand? Maybe your CIA book will have answers. LOL fatass.
@setsallset It's not that i am calling your poor, per se. and you are right, there is no shame in being poor. i am also poor. my point is, you live in USA. You have every opportunity before you. You could be anything. but given the way you write, your attitude, obvious anger, use of foul language, it is highly likely you fall into the 70% percentile of Khmericans who have chosen not to advance themselves economically or through education.
@brooklynmonk1 don't pigeonhole me. It's easy to say that when you're white. Everyone else is just lazy to work or stupid. Where did you come up with that statistic or did you just pull it out of your ladyboy's ass?
@setsallset I am not as familiar with the asses of ladyboys as you seem to be. However, I would imagine that they are not the best source for reliable statistics. If you were to search for data you would find that Khmers have had one of the worst rates of assimilation and upward mobility of ANY immigrant group, lowest levels of education and economic advancement, especially compared to Vietnamese who came at the same time. nearly 70% of Khmers in places like lowell are living on public assitance
@setsallset The things you said dont make me angry so much as confirm that you are wasting your opportunities. also, you should make an effort to go back to cambodia at least for a few months, do some type of volunteer work, get to know your country and your culture. it is important to do this to preserve your heritage and find a positive way to enact national pride. if you need help, i am willing to assist you. Let me know.
@setsallset I meant that i would help you in cambodia, getting a place to stay, setting up your training and finding you a volunteer job of some kind so you could help your country. and if you legitimately needed money in cambodia i would do what i could to help with that as well.
@brooklynmonk1 Are you deaf fool? I need money now! I need the money to go see my dying grandma in cambodia. Please send 25,000 USD. I'll keep all my receipts. You will be helping cambodia greatly with your generosity.
@setsallset The offer still stands. if you want to come to cambodia and train or do volunteer work or see your grandmother, let me know, and i will help you. but it doesn't cost 25,000 USD. you get your own plane ticket, which for one way is quite cheap, and i can help you once you get into the country. this is a serious offer and from your behavior, i would assume it is one of very few offers of help you will ever get. You dont have to be such a terrible person. its ok to be good sometimes.
@brooklynmonk1 That's pretty shitty of you to judge me as a "terrible person." You offered helped but then backed down once you saw the price tag. I need to fly first class, but I have to stop by the bahamas because I need to party for a bit. I may not need 25k but I told you I would keep the receipts. It's funny that when I call you on your bluff, you change the meaning. The offer still stands. Paypal. Use it.
@setsallset I offer legitimate help. your request of 25 K was not real. do you not understand the difference. if you want to go to cambodia and do charity work or train I will help. and there is no bluff here. this is a serious offer. i have explained that several times through this thread.
@ichibang15549 I don't care what you want to call Cambodia. If you want to call America, USA or Myammar, Burma, knock yourself out. You can do whatever you want, so what are you arguing? Politeness? What are you? The politeness police?
@setsallset Actually your whole month-long angry rant started because you didnt want cambodians called Khmer with an "r" on the end. Now you say you don't care. glad we got this unpleasantness behind us. By the way, I am taking three cambodians to train MMA fulltime in Malaysia and the fight pro. would you like to sponsor them? You seem very nationalistic, except that i live in cambodia and you don't.
@brooklynmonk1 Whitey returns! Welcome back. Wasn't ranting. I lost count of the time. You still haven't said a word about the video I linked. Is that a CIA tactic used while arguing? Picking and choosing? Anyways, I never cared what YOU thought. You are old. In body and in mind. You know that saying, "can't teach an old dog new tricks"? That's you. You're set in your ways. I won't sponsor them. You'll probably steal from them. Living there doesn't make you Cambodian. You are very much confused.
@setsallset the video you sent me doesnt alter reality. if you tell me you like the way that person pronounced khmer. i believe you. but the word remains khmer and is spelled and pronounced khmer. I think i have explained the CIA World Fact Book several times, it is simply an easily accessed source of information about geography and countries and basic economic and demographic data, nothing about arguing.
@setsallset I do fight on the cambodian MMA team. I lead the team and arrange fights and sponsorship. if your reservation about giving is that you think i will steel, then just give the money to them directly. So if you wont sponsor these athletes, and since you live in USA what exactly do you do to help cambodia? i also asked you if you has studied khmer or even lived here, but you didnt answer.
Respond to this video... until the language is standardized and until the transliteration is standardized, you just have accept the defacto correct spelling which is Khmer.
@brooklynmonk1 I can "accept" the spelling just fine. What I don't accept is your pronunciation. Go deep into Phnom Phen or Battambang. BTW, it's pronounce, "P'nowm P'eñ" and "Bat-tham-bong" or are you going to argue with me on that too? And see how they say it. You need records from the UN and CIA? LOL. This fool...
@setsallset You see CIA World Fact Book is an authoritative source for the proper spellings of country names, nationalities and so forth. I am not a fool for quoting an authoritative source. when adults argue, they often do research or cite examples which have been published and are generally accepted as standard. Perhaps yo could do some research on how to argue, and then return to this discussion.
@brooklynmonk1 is that so ah pluh? It is a logical fallacy known as an appeal of authority. Like I said, I have no authority on pronouncing "Sean" or "Stephen" so I don't claim to know. Perhaps your little CIA book can teach me how to pronounce that. Fools learn foreign cultures from white books. Fools argue pronunciation when themselves are foreign. I don't argue like a fool. Perhaps "yo" could do some research on how to argue? Perhaps. I am merely correcting the ill-cultured. You can argue.
@setsallset You could easily verify the correct pronunciation of "sean" or "Stephen" by looking it up. There are any number of standards works to teach you how to pronounce names. The CIA World Fact Book, however, wouldn't help you in pronouncing English names. As I said earlier, it is more about world geography.
@setsallset as for fools learning only from books, I would imagine fools generally don’t learn at all. It is generally intelligent people who read and learn from books. But “learning only from books,” since this video is shot in Thailand and since I quite obviously speak both Thai and Khmer, it should be clear that I learn from field experience as well as from books. Just out of curiosity, do you speak both Khmer and Thai? And have you lived extensively in both countries as an adult?
@setsallset As I dont know what deep Phnom Penh means, I live on street 240, is that deep enough? The only correct way to write out the pronunciation would be with phonetic script. I honestly can't judge by the way you have spelled it in Latin script, which, as I have pointed out earlier, there is NO STANDARD Latinization of Khmer language. Even if there were, and if your spellings were accurate, it doesn't explain why you got offended at being called Khmer or why you called me whitey.
@setsallset I dont know what deep Phnom Penh means, I live on street 240, is that deep enough? The only correct way to write out the pronunciation would be with phonetic script. I honestly can't judge by the way you have spelled it in Latin script, which, as I have pointed out earlier, there is NO STANDARD Latinization of Khmer language. Even if there were, and if your spellings were accurate, it doesn't explain why you got offended at being called Khmer or why you called me whitey.
@brooklynmonk1 Are you trying to ignore my comments? You have a video. You pronounced "khmer" literally. Did you get the video I posted? That foreigner was pronouncing it correctly. Before you post any more garbage, watch that video. Are you offended by my calling you whitey? How does it feel?
@setsallset No, you calling me whitey is the not same as you getting offended by me calling you Khmer. I call you Khmer because that is the appropriate name for the majority race in Cambodia. you are not cham, Chinese, or Vietnamese. You are Khmer. Whitey is not the appropriate name for the majority race in the United States. But we have already explored this fact. i wasn't offended so much as confused.
@setsallset Actually, as I have pointed out repeatedly, I spend about half the year in cambodia and speak Khmer nearly every day, and it is pronounced Khmer. This is the first time in my nearly ten year association with the country that anyone has even suggested that the word Khmer was an insult akin to calling a Guatemalan a Mexican or an American whitey...I suspect it will be the only time that will happen.
@ichibang15549 the alternative name for the country, in Khmer language, is "Srok Khmer." I have never in my life heard someone protest against the spelling of Khmer in English. If, however, Khmers want to wage that argument, they will first need to standardize spelling in Khmer, THEN create a standardized transliteration such as Wade Giles did for Chinese. They would need to adopt and consistently use the two systems themselves and then get others to use it.
@ichibang15549 if other nations called Mexicans wetbacks, Filipinos flips, Americans idiots, is that appropriate? I'm not going to argue with you. If your name is William and you're okay with people calling you Bill, that's your business. Some Khmai people don't like to be called Khmer. If you're Guatemalan and you're okay with being called Mexican, then fine. And there are people like that. Just trying to teach they layperson some respect. You're from thailand so of course you're okay with it.
@setsallset Actually, Khmer people have no choice but to be called Khmer. This is the strangest illogical post I have seen. In Khmer language, the word for Khmer is Khmer. in historical records, the people are called Khmer. On the Cambodian Government information website the race is called Khmer. I am not from Thailand, and I insist that Khmer is the name Khmers call themselves. In fact the alternative name for the country is S'rok Khmer. Absolutely not sure what you are on about.
@brooklynmonk1 What I am "on" about is pronunciation. Khmai, and Khmer. Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it's strange. I know you like to think you're cultured by going to foreign countries but Cambodia has long since lost it's influence in the world after Pol Pot's "Khmai Khahom" regime. The people that pronounce it Khmer are Surin and Thai. Does it ever occur to you that Cambodians have their own alphabet? Call it lost in translation. Are you still confused? Whitey?
@setsallset You used the example calling Mexicans wetbacks. that is not a matter of pronunciation. it is the sue of a derogatory name in lieu of the actual nationality. a poor example to make your current point. calling Americans idiots is not even in the same league as idiot is not a national moniker. Calling Guatemalans Mexicans is also terrible example as those are two separate countries. where did you learn to argue?
@setsallset Sorry I think you mean "Khmer grohom." It is not true that only poiple in Surin pronounce it Khmer. but if you do a google search and check any reasonable authority whether it be CIA World Factbook, National Geographic, the UN or the Cambodian government itself, the spelling is Khmer. It does occur to me that Khmer has it's own alphabet, BUT Khmer lacks standardized spelling. American English was standardized in the 19th century, but Khmer still hasnt been.
@setsallset I was raised speaking Spanish, but I also studied at university in Costa Rica and in school in Spain. I once had a job teaching Spanish courses for Latinos living in New York City. So, yes, I am sure I have corrected some Guatemalans at some point. But as for the Khmer language. Have you actually studied Khmer or did you just learn it from your family?
@brooklynmonk1 Wow. 5 replies and not a SINGLE mention of the video. You begged me like a little street whore to give you an example. I linked a video and you dodged it. Now I know you are just here to argue.... Like you admitted earlier. I told you I wasn't here to argue. If that crap turns you on, then whatever. Do me a favor and leave all these comments up. The Brooklyn Monk? LMAO. The Brooklyn wannabee. Terrible technique. Fat. 44 years old. Your DVD isn't even on torrents. SAD.
@setsallset I have never begged like a street whore, neither do I know what that means. But I never asked you to send me a video related to the pronunciation of Khmer. I think I asked for an authoritative source, which confirms that the word khmer is derogatory.
@setsallset Brooklyn Monk, not Brooklyn Wannabee, not sure how you confused that one. I am called Brooklyn Monk because I lived in the Shaolin Temple and my first book was called The Monk from Brooklyn. So, the name seams to be appropriate as is.
@setsallset yes, 44 years old. sadly, I can't undo that. My age is my age. Most people tend to think it is amazing that at 44 years old I am still sparring at this level and also fighting in MMA events. As for my weight, yes, it goes up and down. down to 90 Kgs now, down four since my last fight. considering cutting to 82 kgs for my next fight.
@brooklynmonk1 my name is Antonio Graceffo. I should be retiring but I'm an idiot. I try to hustle, I mean sell my DVD to suckers, I mean customers, that want to understand martial arts from a "Brooklyn perspective." What do you think about that? I think millions of people would be dying to see an aging, balding, overweight man vacationing, I mean traveling, through Asia learning from the source. As the cliche goes, this journey helped me "find" myself. I am humbled now.
@setsallset The CIA World Fact Book has information about countries, economics, demographics, but not slang. So once again, what is pluh and also LOP?
Respond to this video... Once again you have made a faulty argument. Whitey is not an alternate pronunciation of American. So calling me whitey doesnt illustrate your point. perhaps altering the spelling of American such as Annerican would, but that would just seem silly, as no one pronounces it that way.
@brooklynmonk1 Actually, you've have a faulty argument. You assumed "whitey" is an alternate pronunciation of "American." Race != Nationality. I've never made that assumption. It appears that your egotistical white-is-right self is showing. BTW, dodge my point further.
@setsallset I don't think I ever claimed that being white made me right. Fairly certain that I laid out a series of logical arguments, supported by references such as UN, CIA World Fact Book, and National Geographic. At no point did I reference my or your race. Is it egotistical to use logic and research? If so, then yes, I am guilty. Could you please show me a reference that demonstrates that Khmer people are not Khmer?
@brooklynmonk1 straw man. Never claimed that. You logical "arguments" are fallacies. The US, CIA, World Fact book or Bible does not claim authority on how we call our own people. You are using an appeal to authority. Likewise, I do not have authority on how to pronounce "American." Many people around the world have their own ways of saying American. My point is "Khmer" is the Thai's/Surin and American's way of saying it. Fairly certain that's not what what I laid out in a series of comment.
@setsallset I offered CIA World Factbook as one source, you could also check National Geographic, or any number of other sources, but the challenge remains. find an authoritative source which confirms your assertion that Khmer is not only wrong but offensive.
@setsallset I studied Khmer in cambodia, not Khmer Surin or America. and i was taught to say khmer, which was then confirmed by every other native speaker i ever spoke to who pronounced it quite similarly.
@brooklynmonk1 Ohh and my pointing out your race was just me showing your egocentric world views. White people, at least the ones I've met, have a tendency to assert their beliefs as true. They also like to claim they are cultured by "vacationing" other countries. Listen, if you want to pronounce "Khmer" you go right ahead. Cambodia is very poor and you can call them anything you want if you pay them well enough. Have fun with all the ladyboys. We all know that's why you're there. :)
@setsallset I didn't vacation in cambodia. i spent 18 months there, studying Khmer and writing a book, Re-Discovering the Khmers, which you can get on amazon. After leaving my fulltime life in cambodia i have spent several months per year doing research in cambodia. I also have as similar relationship with Thailand and have spent time in surin doing research, as this video shows.
@setsallset Most of my research is about martial arts, languages, and ethnic minorities, i haven't done any reports on ladyboys in cambodia. i did do a report on Beautiful Boxer of Malaysia and appeared in a Muay Thai video with the real Beautiful Boxer. Beyond that, I don't think I have done any research or work with ladboys, and of course, none of that was in cambodia.
@setsallset I haven't dodged your point. Your point was that Khmer shouldn't be called Khmer. but i have already cited numerous sources which would confirm that khmer are called Khmer. next, your point was about Guatemalans being called Mexicans, which I pointed out was ludicrous and Americans being called stupid or whitey which also makes no sense. i haven't dodged your point. i am now challenging you to show me evidence that khmer people are not khmer.
@brooklynmonk1 my point was pronunciation which, yes, you have dodged. Whether or not Khmer people adapted the English semantics is irrelevant. In the related videos watch?v=Ity_RwYiVUk at about 0:37 he pronounces it right. "Khmai." At least one foreigner got it right. You are a piece of work, telling people how their own people is pronounced. I won't correct "Sean" as "Seen" or "Stephen" as "Stefen." So, your own challenge is a straw man. I never claimed that Khmer people are not Khmer.
@setsallset At this point, I am not sure what we are arguing. You have called me fat, old, dumb.. Just out of curiosity, have you published extensively about cambodia or done any field research here? Is any of your research available that I could read?
I think what happen was when Khmer and Thai was fighting way back then the Khmer would yell out Khmer Muay meaning Khmer is number one, and the Thai saw that lots of Khmer yelling this and not knowing what it meant they started yelling Muay Thai and that is how they got the name Muay Thai.
or maybe when they was fighting khmer would yell muay dai meaning one punch
and Thai thought they were saying Muay Thai so they started call it Muay Thai...
@bezoniebone I have heard this explanation before and also find it preposterous. it is quite clearly silly. Also, I have published extensively on the origin of Thai and Khmer numbers.
@bezoniebone The only other use for the word is to mean fighting style. Like, for example, Thais call Kung Fu Muay Jin or chinese muay, and they call bokator Muay Cambojia. so it does mean fighting style.
@bezoniebone Good question. To my knowledge, Muay Thai is the only use of the word Muay in the Thailand language. someone once attacked me on youtube and said Muay also meant free, like free fighting, like bradal serey, but I have often wondered if the word were a loan word from another language, because i have never heard it used in another context. i speak thai, but far from fluent, so i could be wrong.
@bezoniebone in Khmai or Cambodian, "Muay" means "One". So in Khmai, Muay Thai literally translates into "One Thai" or "Thai Number 1." Many people believe that most of the "Muay" martial arts originated in Cambodia during the Khmer Empire. Wiki Khmer Empire and you will see.
@brooklynmonk1 Just because you couldn't give him an informative answer doesn't mean I can't give any incite. Like I said, the Khmer Empire stretched across all of Thailand. And stop calling it Khmer. Khmer is what the Thai, and "Khmai" Surin call our language. We call it Khmai. You said there was no literal translation in Thai. Well maybe it has Khmai influence, hence my "irrelevant" comment.
@setsallset The fact that Muay in Muay thai sounds like one in khmer doesnt even make sense. Muay also sounds the spanish word for more or the russian word for I or part of the khmer word for with gi muay or the vietnamese word moi which is new...There are only so many phonemes the human being is capable of making, so when two phoneme, or especially two one-syllable words sound similar, it may not mean anything at all.
@setsallset The only other use for the word is to mean fighting style. Like, for example, Thais call Kung Fu Muay Jin or chinese muay, and they call bokator Muay Cambojia. so it does mean fighting style.
that's cool how there's a connection with india, and hinduism
because when i was india, in the south, i seen the tamil ethnic group doing a martial art that looked similar to muay thai. very similar grappling and striking techniques.
and they did it at these festivals, the martial art is known as adithada, but too bad indian martial arts are not as well preserved or widely taught as eastern or south eastern martial arts
hey i noticed that you sat on the gravestone or atleast it looked like you sat on it. But i wanted to tell you just incase you didnt know that its considererd disrespectful to sit or stand over any gravestone or urn thats filled with ashes
hey Antonio my name is Panna (Pawna) i was wondering does Adjan Sok Chai speak Khmer as well cuz im khmer myself and im intrested in Bokator and muay boran i really want to dig deep into the ancients martial like you too, and i was also wondering will you ever get to interview Tony Jaa in Khmer surin im really ancious to see him speak khmer
a lot of monks and boxers in surin city speak khmer but the adjan is thai. he only speaks thai. tony jaa does speak khmer. i interviewed his parents in khmer language.
i made a tony jaa video too. check my channel! if tony jaa comes to US to do a movie, he should do the fight scene wit Marrese Crump. that would be amazing!
no ayuthaya was named after a region in india called ayodhya which was the city were rama of the ramayana was born, like most cham, cambodian and thai names and relgious names in south east asia is named after sanskirt words and vocab from indias hindu-buddhist culture. also ayuthaya was originally a khmer vessal state which later become mostly thai, and ineventually gained independce and conquered Angkor. Most thai culture has a heavy khmer influence. Im viet n study south east asian history
thanks for putting these up man. it's good to hear that my parents weren't lying when they said that surin people are really Khmer. the whole martial arts Odyssey is great bro. just ignore people who hate.

@setsallset You are. You make yourself and your race look pretty stupid by ranting, attacking and arguing from a position of no knowledge. once again, i live in cambodia and you are welcome any time to my home or to my training to discuss proper pronunciation or how i dont know anything about cambodia.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 You are delusional. It is you who are destroying Cambodia. You and all the whities that vacation there. I know it's a big tourist attraction. Those 12 year old girls are a commodity for you sick people. Ohh yea, the training is good too. A friend of mines sponsored one via marriage. He got paid good money. Just because you're there, don't think you are "khmer" as you call it. You're just another saw. BTW, my friend lost 40 lbs just from the diet. You're training and still fat? Sad
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I put together the first ever Cambodian MMA team and we fought in Malaysia. now, i am arranging our next fight. The Cambodian Olympic committee approached me about helping to set up MMA fights on TV in Cambodia, which i am going to do for free, to help the country.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 I fuck white girls for free to help them in America. Don't see me tooting my own horn about it. I picked up litter down the street. Give me a noble prize. I don't give a fuck what you do. Do you care that I wipe my ass after I shit? Fag.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset whay are you such a horrible human being? You do nothing for cambodia and nothing for America. Seriously, analyze your life and decide what sort of legacy you want to leave behind. Instead of more insults and profanity approach this as as serious subject because your life is ending every minute you and I, all of us, are closer to death. what do you want to be known for? What do you want to be remembered for?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 LOLO I am a "horrible human being"? Thank you for making me laugh. I am sorry GOD. Will you forgive me? :)
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset i think it's sad too that i have trouble losing weight. fortunately i am still i absolutely phenomenal cardio and strength shape for fighting. I have asked several times, but do you fight? Also have you ever lived in cambodia?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 I think it's sad too. I am on an American diet and I'm still not a fatass like you. Have you ever lived in Antartica?
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I have never lived in Antarctica, but I also dont profess to be an expert on Antarctica. originally, our argument was focused on cambodia and Thailand. and you seem never to have lived in either of those two countries or do have done research or field work or to speak Thai or to have done an actual academic study of Khmer.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset Actually, tourism is the single most important private sector employment and represents almost 70% of the country's total income, apart from foreign aid. So, if you ended tourism the country would be much worse off. Next, i have explained that i dont vacation in cambodia, i work there.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 at least let me get your real name, if not the answers to the questions below.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 I already told you my name. Antonio Graceffo. Old, fat, balding, and I have a superiority complex. I also like to call strangers terrible human beings. I try to peddle my shitty DVD because I believe people will stroke my ego. Of course people will want to know about MY life, MY legacy. Why wouldn't they? I am conceited. I am special. I am a typical whitey.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset The offer still stands. If you want to come to Cambodia and work as a volunteer or to train, I would be happy to help you any way I can.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 You can help by sending me money. Paypal.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset Come on, man, after all of the insults, I am still offering you legitimate help. if you review your posts and mine, you will see that yours are riddled with ill-lodgic, profanity and ungrounded personal attacks. You clearly have some anger and some issues about Whitey, so why stay in America? Come to Cambodia, do something positive to help your help your people. Learn to be good. Help others. And if you still hate me, you can attack me in cambodia.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Actually, I prefer white women. Silly, I know but I'm not old and don't need viagra yet so might as well enjoy it here. Learn to be good? Are you saying that I am "bad"? Why? :)
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset Look at all of the horrible things you said. and when i asked you what good you have done for others, you listed masturbating, watching porn and something about my mother. You sound very disturbed. But, again, by helping others sometimes you help yourself. why are you so against doing some good for cambodia? do you hate your country so much?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 I'm doing my part here. Don't worry crybaby. Your mother was not affected by my comments. I'm doing a service to both countries. I love both of them :) Are you gay? Since when did you first experienced anal sex from a ladyboy? Assumptions suck don't it?
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset when i asked you what good works you were doing you listed watching porn videos and sex with white women. so it was not an assumption on my part that you are doing nothing. Although i did assume that, you also confirmed it. Once again, read the horrible language, profanity and hatred in your writing. How is it not clear to you that you are horribly disturbed and by extrapolation, most likely not well-educated or economically sound? You seem to have a real obsession with ladyboys.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 technically, I never said anything about watching porn. Masturbating to you mom is not the same, unless you are saying she has done porn... Anyways, I think we both can see understand the health benefits of sex, and yes, I am a very giving lover. So therefore, I am helping others... No hatred here, just love. What is so disturbing about that? are you a faggot?
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I have no idea why you are so screwed up but seriously you said so many awful things and I would have to believe that you know they are awful. but I still dont understand why? Seriously, what is your issue with me? what have I done to you? And, why do you refuse to help cambodia? And why don't you better yourself rather than try to take others down. which, of course, you can't. by writing insults to me you wont destroy me, stop me or swing others to your side.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 My stupid, confused friend! I am helping Cambodia HERE! We are all doing our parts. Did you not read my last comment? I am doing a fine job representing Cambodian men for the white women here. What part of that don't you understand? For an ESL teacher, you sure have a hard time understanding basic English. Who is trying to destroy you? Look in the mirror. Please, do not flatter yourself.... Please. LOL. Hey man, why are you so sensitive? Did someone touch you when you were young?
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset As you know, I am antonio graceffo. I am curious
1. what is your real name?
2. have you ever lived in cambodia?
3. are you a fighter, if so, where do you fight?
4. what do you do to help promote cambodia?
5. If i quit, as you have suggested i should, will you come and take over with the MMA team so it doesn't die?
6. Why would you accuse me of child sex and something about ladyboys? is it because I spelled khmer with an "r" on the end? Is that the mark of a known sex offender?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 LMFAO!!! You're fucking hilarious! You think I'm gonna answer your questions? Woooooow. You are full of yourself. You are not entitle to anything. You forgot to say "please."
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset Please answer these questions.
1. what is your real name?
2. have you ever lived in cambodia?
3. are you a fighter, if so, where do you fight?
4. what do you do to help promote cambodia?
@brooklynmonk1 And if you want to bring up pronunciation again. Go to the video I link earlier and comment on it. Tell the man he is saying it wrong. Point to your CIA fag book... I mean fact book.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I never claimed that the foreigner in the video mispronounced anything. if you mistakenly typed IA fag book and then corrected yourself, CIA Fact Book, why didnt you erase the previous, wrong word?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset I am curious, this argument stems from the fact that you, and only you, of all cambodians on the planet, feels offended when he is called Khmer and you said that i shouldnt call you that or that we shouldnt spell Khmer with an "r" on the end. From that, you have accused me of steeling money from the cambodian MMA team and of hanging out with ladyboys and now with child sex. Just curious, but do all of the insults actually seem warranted to you?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 I am curious, you like to make love to ladyboys. Do you also enjoy making loving to women? Does this warrant your manhood?
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset You have admitted, by omission, that you do nothing to help cambodia. I have written extensively and made TV shows, videos, movies... to help promote cambodia. I even did an adventure tourism video for the leading tour company for free, just to help promote cambodia. What exactly have you done fro cambodia? And if i quit my post with the MMA team, are you willing to take over?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 you have admitted, by omission, that you do nothing to help ME. I have done lots of selfish things to help myself. I have masturbated to your mom, watched porn. I've even helped you out by watching your videos and replying to your comments. Thank me.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I think we are done here. this no longer a discussion of the proper spelling and pronunciation of the word Khmer. It is now simply a very strange and gross attack on me which I absolutely fail to understand. I live in Phnom Penh. You know where I train. I am happy to meet you face-to-face. but if you are a typical khmerican gangbanger in Long Beach you probably dont have a passport or the money to buy a plane ticket.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 aww I thought we were friends. :( LOL. Now you're calling me poor? What's that suppose to be? Another appeals to authority? I don't care how much/little money you make. You are suppose to be educated. How did you fail to understand? Maybe your CIA book will have answers. LOL fatass.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset It's not that i am calling your poor, per se. and you are right, there is no shame in being poor. i am also poor. my point is, you live in USA. You have every opportunity before you. You could be anything. but given the way you write, your attitude, obvious anger, use of foul language, it is highly likely you fall into the 70% percentile of Khmericans who have chosen not to advance themselves economically or through education.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 don't pigeonhole me. It's easy to say that when you're white. Everyone else is just lazy to work or stupid. Where did you come up with that statistic or did you just pull it out of your ladyboy's ass?
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I am not as familiar with the asses of ladyboys as you seem to be. However, I would imagine that they are not the best source for reliable statistics. If you were to search for data you would find that Khmers have had one of the worst rates of assimilation and upward mobility of ANY immigrant group, lowest levels of education and economic advancement, especially compared to Vietnamese who came at the same time. nearly 70% of Khmers in places like lowell are living on public assitance
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset The things you said dont make me angry so much as confirm that you are wasting your opportunities. also, you should make an effort to go back to cambodia at least for a few months, do some type of volunteer work, get to know your country and your culture. it is important to do this to preserve your heritage and find a positive way to enact national pride. if you need help, i am willing to assist you. Let me know.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 I need help. Please send me money via paypal at setsallset@yahoo(dot)com
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I meant that i would help you in cambodia, getting a place to stay, setting up your training and finding you a volunteer job of some kind so you could help your country. and if you legitimately needed money in cambodia i would do what i could to help with that as well.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Are you deaf fool? I need money now! I need the money to go see my dying grandma in cambodia. Please send 25,000 USD. I'll keep all my receipts. You will be helping cambodia greatly with your generosity.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset The offer still stands. if you want to come to cambodia and train or do volunteer work or see your grandmother, let me know, and i will help you. but it doesn't cost 25,000 USD. you get your own plane ticket, which for one way is quite cheap, and i can help you once you get into the country. this is a serious offer and from your behavior, i would assume it is one of very few offers of help you will ever get. You dont have to be such a terrible person. its ok to be good sometimes.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 That's pretty shitty of you to judge me as a "terrible person." You offered helped but then backed down once you saw the price tag. I need to fly first class, but I have to stop by the bahamas because I need to party for a bit. I may not need 25k but I told you I would keep the receipts. It's funny that when I call you on your bluff, you change the meaning. The offer still stands. Paypal. Use it.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I offer legitimate help. your request of 25 K was not real. do you not understand the difference. if you want to go to cambodia and do charity work or train I will help. and there is no bluff here. this is a serious offer. i have explained that several times through this thread.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@ichibang15549 are you representation police now?
setsallset 3 months ago
@ichibang15549 I'm sorry but the US is already disgraced. Mission failed.
setsallset 3 months ago
@ichibang15549 I don't care what you want to call Cambodia. If you want to call America, USA or Myammar, Burma, knock yourself out. You can do whatever you want, so what are you arguing? Politeness? What are you? The politeness police?
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset Actually your whole month-long angry rant started because you didnt want cambodians called Khmer with an "r" on the end. Now you say you don't care. glad we got this unpleasantness behind us. By the way, I am taking three cambodians to train MMA fulltime in Malaysia and the fight pro. would you like to sponsor them? You seem very nationalistic, except that i live in cambodia and you don't.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Whitey returns! Welcome back. Wasn't ranting. I lost count of the time. You still haven't said a word about the video I linked. Is that a CIA tactic used while arguing? Picking and choosing? Anyways, I never cared what YOU thought. You are old. In body and in mind. You know that saying, "can't teach an old dog new tricks"? That's you. You're set in your ways. I won't sponsor them. You'll probably steal from them. Living there doesn't make you Cambodian. You are very much confused.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset the video you sent me doesnt alter reality. if you tell me you like the way that person pronounced khmer. i believe you. but the word remains khmer and is spelled and pronounced khmer. I think i have explained the CIA World Fact Book several times, it is simply an easily accessed source of information about geography and countries and basic economic and demographic data, nothing about arguing.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset I do fight on the cambodian MMA team. I lead the team and arrange fights and sponsorship. if your reservation about giving is that you think i will steel, then just give the money to them directly. So if you wont sponsor these athletes, and since you live in USA what exactly do you do to help cambodia? i also asked you if you has studied khmer or even lived here, but you didnt answer.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@ichibang15549 Have we had a conversation before? You say it like it's a bad thing...
setsallset 3 months ago
@ ichibang15549 & brooklymonk1-
Guys I was just throwing that theory in there for the hell of it just to be funny lol,
But now I know that muay mean style or fighting style.
like muay thai = thai fighting and muay chaiya = chaiya fighting style ans so on.
bezoniebone 4 months ago
Respond to this video... until the language is standardized and until the transliteration is standardized, you just have accept the defacto correct spelling which is Khmer.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 I can "accept" the spelling just fine. What I don't accept is your pronunciation. Go deep into Phnom Phen or Battambang. BTW, it's pronounce, "P'nowm P'eñ" and "Bat-tham-bong" or are you going to argue with me on that too? And see how they say it. You need records from the UN and CIA? LOL. This fool...
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset You see CIA World Fact Book is an authoritative source for the proper spellings of country names, nationalities and so forth. I am not a fool for quoting an authoritative source. when adults argue, they often do research or cite examples which have been published and are generally accepted as standard. Perhaps yo could do some research on how to argue, and then return to this discussion.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 is that so ah pluh? It is a logical fallacy known as an appeal of authority. Like I said, I have no authority on pronouncing "Sean" or "Stephen" so I don't claim to know. Perhaps your little CIA book can teach me how to pronounce that. Fools learn foreign cultures from white books. Fools argue pronunciation when themselves are foreign. I don't argue like a fool. Perhaps "yo" could do some research on how to argue? Perhaps. I am merely correcting the ill-cultured. You can argue.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset You could easily verify the correct pronunciation of "sean" or "Stephen" by looking it up. There are any number of standards works to teach you how to pronounce names. The CIA World Fact Book, however, wouldn't help you in pronouncing English names. As I said earlier, it is more about world geography.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 English names? If I am not mistaken, Sean is an Irish name...
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset You see, you have begun to do your research. good on you.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset as for fools learning only from books, I would imagine fools generally don’t learn at all. It is generally intelligent people who read and learn from books. But “learning only from books,” since this video is shot in Thailand and since I quite obviously speak both Thai and Khmer, it should be clear that I learn from field experience as well as from books. Just out of curiosity, do you speak both Khmer and Thai? And have you lived extensively in both countries as an adult?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset As I dont know what deep Phnom Penh means, I live on street 240, is that deep enough? The only correct way to write out the pronunciation would be with phonetic script. I honestly can't judge by the way you have spelled it in Latin script, which, as I have pointed out earlier, there is NO STANDARD Latinization of Khmer language. Even if there were, and if your spellings were accurate, it doesn't explain why you got offended at being called Khmer or why you called me whitey.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago

brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Are you trying to ignore my comments? You have a video. You pronounced "khmer" literally. Did you get the video I posted? That foreigner was pronouncing it correctly. Before you post any more garbage, watch that video. Are you offended by my calling you whitey? How does it feel?
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset No, you calling me whitey is the not same as you getting offended by me calling you Khmer. I call you Khmer because that is the appropriate name for the majority race in Cambodia. you are not cham, Chinese, or Vietnamese. You are Khmer. Whitey is not the appropriate name for the majority race in the United States. But we have already explored this fact. i wasn't offended so much as confused.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset Actually, as I have pointed out repeatedly, I spend about half the year in cambodia and speak Khmer nearly every day, and it is pronounced Khmer. This is the first time in my nearly ten year association with the country that anyone has even suggested that the word Khmer was an insult akin to calling a Guatemalan a Mexican or an American whitey...I suspect it will be the only time that will happen.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@ichibang15549 the alternative name for the country, in Khmer language, is "Srok Khmer." I have never in my life heard someone protest against the spelling of Khmer in English. If, however, Khmers want to wage that argument, they will first need to standardize spelling in Khmer, THEN create a standardized transliteration such as Wade Giles did for Chinese. They would need to adopt and consistently use the two systems themselves and then get others to use it.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@ichibang15549 if other nations called Mexicans wetbacks, Filipinos flips, Americans idiots, is that appropriate? I'm not going to argue with you. If your name is William and you're okay with people calling you Bill, that's your business. Some Khmai people don't like to be called Khmer. If you're Guatemalan and you're okay with being called Mexican, then fine. And there are people like that. Just trying to teach they layperson some respect. You're from thailand so of course you're okay with it.
setsallset 4 months ago
@setsallset Actually, Khmer people have no choice but to be called Khmer. This is the strangest illogical post I have seen. In Khmer language, the word for Khmer is Khmer. in historical records, the people are called Khmer. On the Cambodian Government information website the race is called Khmer. I am not from Thailand, and I insist that Khmer is the name Khmers call themselves. In fact the alternative name for the country is S'rok Khmer. Absolutely not sure what you are on about.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 What I am "on" about is pronunciation. Khmai, and Khmer. Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it's strange. I know you like to think you're cultured by going to foreign countries but Cambodia has long since lost it's influence in the world after Pol Pot's "Khmai Khahom" regime. The people that pronounce it Khmer are Surin and Thai. Does it ever occur to you that Cambodians have their own alphabet? Call it lost in translation. Are you still confused? Whitey?
setsallset 4 months ago
@setsallset You used the example calling Mexicans wetbacks. that is not a matter of pronunciation. it is the sue of a derogatory name in lieu of the actual nationality. a poor example to make your current point. calling Americans idiots is not even in the same league as idiot is not a national moniker. Calling Guatemalans Mexicans is also terrible example as those are two separate countries. where did you learn to argue?
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@setsallset Sorry I think you mean "Khmer grohom." It is not true that only poiple in Surin pronounce it Khmer. but if you do a google search and check any reasonable authority whether it be CIA World Factbook, National Geographic, the UN or the Cambodian government itself, the spelling is Khmer. It does occur to me that Khmer has it's own alphabet, BUT Khmer lacks standardized spelling. American English was standardized in the 19th century, but Khmer still hasnt been.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Sorry I think you mean "Khmer grohom."
LOL the white man is telling the Khmai man how to say things in khmai. What's next? You gonna tell a Guatemalan how to enunciate in Spanish? Ah pluh.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I was raised speaking Spanish, but I also studied at university in Costa Rica and in school in Spain. I once had a job teaching Spanish courses for Latinos living in New York City. So, yes, I am sure I have corrected some Guatemalans at some point. But as for the Khmer language. Have you actually studied Khmer or did you just learn it from your family?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Wow. 5 replies and not a SINGLE mention of the video. You begged me like a little street whore to give you an example. I linked a video and you dodged it. Now I know you are just here to argue.... Like you admitted earlier. I told you I wasn't here to argue. If that crap turns you on, then whatever. Do me a favor and leave all these comments up. The Brooklyn Monk? LMAO. The Brooklyn wannabee. Terrible technique. Fat. 44 years old. Your DVD isn't even on torrents. SAD.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I have never begged like a street whore, neither do I know what that means. But I never asked you to send me a video related to the pronunciation of Khmer. I think I asked for an authoritative source, which confirms that the word khmer is derogatory.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset I always leave the negative comments up. no worries.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset Brooklyn Monk, not Brooklyn Wannabee, not sure how you confused that one. I am called Brooklyn Monk because I lived in the Shaolin Temple and my first book was called The Monk from Brooklyn. So, the name seams to be appropriate as is.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset yes, 44 years old. sadly, I can't undo that. My age is my age. Most people tend to think it is amazing that at 44 years old I am still sparring at this level and also fighting in MMA events. As for my weight, yes, it goes up and down. down to 90 Kgs now, down four since my last fight. considering cutting to 82 kgs for my next fight.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset Where can I purchase your DVD? Are you still fighting or have you retired?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 my name is Antonio Graceffo. I should be retiring but I'm an idiot. I try to hustle, I mean sell my DVD to suckers, I mean customers, that want to understand martial arts from a "Brooklyn perspective." What do you think about that? I think millions of people would be dying to see an aging, balding, overweight man vacationing, I mean traveling, through Asia learning from the source. As the cliche goes, this journey helped me "find" myself. I am humbled now.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset just curious, what is "pluh"?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 You tell me expert. Open you precious CIA book. LOL. AH LOP
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset The CIA World Fact Book has information about countries, economics, demographics, but not slang. So once again, what is pluh and also LOP?
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
Respond to this video... Once again you have made a faulty argument. Whitey is not an alternate pronunciation of American. So calling me whitey doesnt illustrate your point. perhaps altering the spelling of American such as Annerican would, but that would just seem silly, as no one pronounces it that way.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Actually, you've have a faulty argument. You assumed "whitey" is an alternate pronunciation of "American." Race != Nationality. I've never made that assumption. It appears that your egotistical white-is-right self is showing. BTW, dodge my point further.
setsallset 4 months ago
@setsallset I don't think I ever claimed that being white made me right. Fairly certain that I laid out a series of logical arguments, supported by references such as UN, CIA World Fact Book, and National Geographic. At no point did I reference my or your race. Is it egotistical to use logic and research? If so, then yes, I am guilty. Could you please show me a reference that demonstrates that Khmer people are not Khmer?
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 straw man. Never claimed that. You logical "arguments" are fallacies. The US, CIA, World Fact book or Bible does not claim authority on how we call our own people. You are using an appeal to authority. Likewise, I do not have authority on how to pronounce "American." Many people around the world have their own ways of saying American. My point is "Khmer" is the Thai's/Surin and American's way of saying it. Fairly certain that's not what what I laid out in a series of comment.
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I offered CIA World Factbook as one source, you could also check National Geographic, or any number of other sources, but the challenge remains. find an authoritative source which confirms your assertion that Khmer is not only wrong but offensive.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset I studied Khmer in cambodia, not Khmer Surin or America. and i was taught to say khmer, which was then confirmed by every other native speaker i ever spoke to who pronounced it quite similarly.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Ohh and my pointing out your race was just me showing your egocentric world views. White people, at least the ones I've met, have a tendency to assert their beliefs as true. They also like to claim they are cultured by "vacationing" other countries. Listen, if you want to pronounce "Khmer" you go right ahead. Cambodia is very poor and you can call them anything you want if you pay them well enough. Have fun with all the ladyboys. We all know that's why you're there. :)
setsallset 3 months ago
@setsallset I didn't vacation in cambodia. i spent 18 months there, studying Khmer and writing a book, Re-Discovering the Khmers, which you can get on amazon. After leaving my fulltime life in cambodia i have spent several months per year doing research in cambodia. I also have as similar relationship with Thailand and have spent time in surin doing research, as this video shows.
brooklynmonk1 3 months ago
@setsallset Most of my research is about martial arts, languages, and ethnic minorities, i haven't done any reports on ladyboys in cambodia. i did do a report on Beautiful Boxer of Malaysia and appeared in a Muay Thai video with the real Beautiful Boxer. Beyond that, I don't think I have done any research or work with ladboys, and of course, none of that was in cambodia.

@setsallset I haven't dodged your point. Your point was that Khmer shouldn't be called Khmer. but i have already cited numerous sources which would confirm that khmer are called Khmer. next, your point was about Guatemalans being called Mexicans, which I pointed out was ludicrous and Americans being called stupid or whitey which also makes no sense. i haven't dodged your point. i am now challenging you to show me evidence that khmer people are not khmer.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago

@brooklynmonk1 yea, all my shit can be read at brooklynfag com

@ichibang15549 Yes, agreed. Just look at a map of the Khmer Empire, large parts of Thailand were never part of the Khmer empire.

Also, I have published extensively on the origin of Thai and Khmer numbers.
brooklynmonk1 4 months ago
When you go to Thailand you should ask them that I really want to know.
bezoniebone 6 months ago
@bezoniebone The only other use for the word is to mean fighting style. Like, for example, Thais call Kung Fu Muay Jin or chinese muay, and they call bokator Muay Cambojia. so it does mean fighting style.
brooklynmonk1 5 months ago
What I wanted to know was what does the word mean when you translated it in English
I know that bradal serey mean free fighting or free boxing.
Bradal = punch or fight, serey = free (I think)
So what does Muay Thai mean I know Thai mean the people of Thai but what about muay. By the way did u know that u r my facebook frind : )...
bezoniebone 6 months ago
@bezoniebone Good question. To my knowledge, Muay Thai is the only use of the word Muay in the Thailand language. someone once attacked me on youtube and said Muay also meant free, like free fighting, like bradal serey, but I have often wondered if the word were a loan word from another language, because i have never heard it used in another context. i speak thai, but far from fluent, so i could be wrong.
brooklynmonk1 6 months ago
@bezoniebone Yes, bradal serey means free fighting in khmer.
brooklynmonk1 5 months ago
@Brooklynmonk1 can u tell me what the word muay mean in Thai?
bezoniebone 6 months ago
@bezoniebone Muay in this case refers to the Muay family of arts, Muay Thai, Muay Lao, Tomoi, bradal serey, and lethwei.
brooklynmonk1 6 months ago
@bezoniebone in Khmai or Cambodian, "Muay" means "One". So in Khmai, Muay Thai literally translates into "One Thai" or "Thai Number 1." Many people believe that most of the "Muay" martial arts originated in Cambodia during the Khmer Empire. Wiki Khmer Empire and you will see.
setsallset 5 months ago
@setsallset The fact that Muay means one in Khmer is completely irrelevant here. bi means two in Khmer, this is also irrelevant.
brooklynmonk1 5 months ago
@brooklynmonk1 Just because you couldn't give him an informative answer doesn't mean I can't give any incite. Like I said, the Khmer Empire stretched across all of Thailand. And stop calling it Khmer. Khmer is what the Thai, and "Khmai" Surin call our language. We call it Khmai. You said there was no literal translation in Thai. Well maybe it has Khmai influence, hence my "irrelevant" comment.
setsallset 5 months ago
@setsallset the proper spelling in English is Khmer. if you have an authoritative source which gives a different spelling, please share it.
brooklynmonk1 5 months ago
@setsallset The fact that Muay in Muay thai sounds like one in khmer doesnt even make sense. Muay also sounds the spanish word for more or the russian word for I or part of the khmer word for with gi muay or the vietnamese word moi which is new...There are only so many phonemes the human being is capable of making, so when two phoneme, or especially two one-syllable words sound similar, it may not mean anything at all.

that's cool how there's a connection with india, and hinduism
because when i was india, in the south, i seen the tamil ethnic group doing a martial art that looked similar to muay thai. very similar grappling and striking techniques.
and they did it at these festivals, the martial art is known as adithada, but too bad indian martial arts are not as well preserved or widely taught as eastern or south eastern martial arts

Most thai culture has a heavy khmer influence. Im viet n study south east asian history
